Welcome back bod missed you!

Tales sales are good. Xbox hardware dropping. I'm also disappointed with the level of ps5 supply.
Tales sales are a bit lower than Berseria, actually. Which I would attribute mostly yo the fact that Switch has really been dominating the Japanese market, but is a bit disappointing nonetheless.

Western sales seem to more than make up for it, of course.

Disappointing physical sales for tales in Japan:. What are PlayStation fans playing in Japan? These established Japanese series games are better than ever but the sales continue to disappoint

Whatever I suppose the rest of the world will have to pick up the slack yet again.

They got nothing on UK physical sales

Hope the game has some legs.

B Bodomism Told you the bulk of the worldwide Tales of Arise sales are on PS with Japan alone accounts for approximately 500k units (assume 70% digital).
You're overestimated it there. There's no way digital sales that big even RE Village has small digital sales in Japan based on shipments figure + digital.
I estimate for the first week figure is around 300K(201K physical sales + ~45K digital copies + 55K unsold copies at retails)

I would assume a higher portion of digital sales (not counted here) compared to 5 years ago, so in all likelihood it's selling better than Berseria, but yeah it's also not exactly a massive rebound based on Japanese sales alone.

International sales tell a different story, of course.
Yeah it's somewhere around Berseria numbers. Berseria also sold 2 million games total, I think Arise can improve that a bit.

And you're way underestimating digital. Now way it sold 45k digital :messenger_tears_of_joy:
One digital doesn't make up 70% of initial sales anywhere, those digital ratio are of all software, not individual games, so it includes old games still selling, digital only games and yes the digital chunk of new releases, so at launch digital isn't the majority of sales, especially not an rpg in japan

45k is over 20%, which was the digital rate of re8, monster hunter and a few others we know of

Alright I'll admit that upon further research, I did indeed overestimated Japan digital sales.

However, I saw that the FF7 Remake, a JRPG on PS4 did around 30% digital (1 million total = 700k physical + 300k digital) in the 1st 3 days according to Famitsu https://www.famitsu.com/news/202004/21197153.html.

And I'd assume digital ratio should increase over time and also with the introduction of the all digital PS5 which lead to more digital adoption . So lets say 35% digital in Japan for now to be fair :messenger_winking:

That link doesn't work for me for some reason but does Famitsu quote SE in the article? Famitsu's own digital estimates are not based on real data and not reliable.

Famitsu digital estimate is just an estimation and many times prove to be wrong based on the shipments given by Nintendo and other companies.

Probably 50-60k or so digital. So 250-260k first week. Pretty meh considering it’s on PS4/ps5 and the 360 game vesperia did close numbers.

It'll improve on that a lot. Arise was first and foremost a play to reinvigorate the series in international markets. I mean the very fact that the game was a simultaneous global launch says a lot. They know they need the western markets if they want to be able to support big budgets, and it was a smart move.

Tales of Arise will be the highest selling ps5 game in japan after next week.

PS5] Resident Evil Village (08/05/2021) - 2.085 / 53.953
Famitsu Sales: Week 10, 2021 (03/08/21 - 03/14/21)
[PS5] Demon's Souls (12/11/2020) - 1.704 / 40.489

Its a statement from SE, not Famitsu

Square Enix Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President: Yosuke Matsuda, hereinafter Square Enix) has released the PlayStation 4 software " FINAL " on April 10, 2020 (Friday). We are pleased to announce that the number of units sold (* 1) of " FANTASY VII REMAKE " has exceeded 1 million units in Japan and 3.5 million units worldwide within 3 days of its release.

Seems like Tales of Arise is doing decent where I live or the limited is extremely limited. The game was very difficult to find locally.

I'm not familiar with the Tales franchise. Was Xillia really THAT good or it was just a coincidence/hype for the next installment of series?
More to do with it being the first one native to PS3 and being hailed as the next gen of Tales. Kind of like Arise is. But it is considered one of the better games in the series.

PS5] Resident Evil Village (08/05/2021) - 2.085 / 53.953
Famitsu Sales: Week 10, 2021 (03/08/21 - 03/14/21)
[PS5] Demon's Souls (12/11/2020) - 1.704 / 40.489

Famitsu provided an update last week regarding the best selling PS5 game, so far it's Resident Evil: Village which still hasn't' sold it's initial shipment in Japan. Tales of Arise will probably overtake it but it won't happen next week.

Famitsu Top 10 PS5

  1. Resident Evil: Village (Capcom) - 67.000
  2. Demon's Souls (Sony) - 51.796
  3. Tales of Arise (Bandai Namco) - 50.482
  4. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Sony) - 43.692
  5. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (Square Enix) - 23.491
  6. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (Sony) - 17.850
  7. Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut (Sony) - 17.271
  8. Judgment: Best Price Edition (Sega) - 14.749
  9. Scarlet Nexus (Bandai Namco) - 12.785
  10. Returnal (Sony) - 9.148
TOTAL: 308.264

Even with digital and untracked sales outside of the Top 30 we are talking about less than 450K sales across the Top 10 games on the PS5 thus far. This type of performance is more akin a userbase of under 300K as opposed to 1 million, hence the idea that the majority of PS5s sold in Japan end up being resold on other markets mainly China.

I think this is the lowest Animal Crossing has ever been, looks like it's hitting saturation point.

yea pretty much the amount of people who own the console and are interested in buying games for it is way lower then people who want to buy the console just to scalp it.

This is an interesting situation for FF16 since it's only will be available on one platform in Japan. I think at this point SQE might be thinking of PS4 port thanks to the poor games sales on PS5.
