Yep, hemorrhoids or fissure. Good news is you'll be fine. Bad news is that you still need to go to the doctor. ...Go.
Does it need to be immediate, or can I go in a few days.. IM at school 100 miles from my doctor, and with major homework this week, The earliest it makes sense to go home is this weekend.. or Even Monday after my exam. ( so I can study all weekend)

You gave your body time enough to heal the wound. Really small cuts or openings in your anus can feel like hell, so I can see why your doctor looked at you, gave you some antibiotics, and told you to go home.

It wasn't my anus that was cut, I had watery diarrhea, nothing that came out was solid AT ALL. It was like pissing out my ass.

I also had bubbling/sharp pains in the abdomen and stomach then 5 mins later I'd have to poop. I didn't go an hour without pooping. To top it all off, it felt like it was a 1:3 ratio of blood/water/watershit

Probably hemorrhoids. Go to the doctor if you are really freaked but if that is not an option due to cost than I would take a bath and begin to monitor.

If it's just a fissure or hemorrhoids, you won't see blood by then.

I've had this for about a month. Only when wiping too.

Additionally I've had really bad abdominal pain. Upper right and sometimes left sides.

Went to see a GI doctor and she wants to do a colonoscopy and upper-scope(?). Only problem is I can't afford either right now (even with insurance).

I'm just hoping it's nothing serious. My understanding is that roids and fissures shouldn't include stomach pains.

I had blood in my stool when i was in high school. I used to weightlift a lot and i was told that i was putting too much pressure in my abdomen (and i guess pushing my butthole, haha) and it led to roids and blood in my stool. I went to a doctor and he told me i had to take it easy when lifting. it stopped.

go see a doctor

Oh, you can wait, but don't wait too long; if it's hemorrhoids, it could get worse if untreated. It could potentially heal itself, but I won't recommend you take that chance, honestly.

It's really not that big if a deal. It happens once in awhile. But you better taste it to be sure. A metallic taste is bad and could be cancerous. A sweet taste and it means its nothing to worry about. You don't to have to eat any corn or nuts you may find.

Some of my friends were talking about this the other day and I was the only one there who had never had blood in my shit. They said a little blood sometimes is normal and is caused by a torn rectum or something. So, idk. It's never happened to me, but apparently it's not that rare.

Should I call a doctor, or wait and see if it happens again?

Are there many likely benign reasons, or is it usually an indicator that there could be a significant problem?
Just make an appointment. I assume you're under 40 years old; this is not an emergency and you'll just be wasting money going anywhere but a regular clinic.

This guy, on the other hand, is more worrisome in my opinion. Abdominal pain with GI bleeding should be checked out.

I wash my hands frequently and am in pretty good physical shape. I drink plenty of water everyday. However, there was a significant amount of blood in my stool when I just went to the bathroom. This is the first time it has ever happened to me, so it is somewhat unnerving.
It was red/ pink in the water.

Dark blood or bright red?

I'm a Crohn's specialist (lol that shit fucked me bad for 6 years or so, I'm pro with anal bleeding)

Bright red bleeding would be closer to the lower ends of the colon/anus/rectum, dark red is from deeper within. If you have pain it can be a sign of inflammation and be Crohn's disease or Ulcerative colitis. However this stuff NEEDS to be checked because it can be an indication of cancer although less likely, it also can be hemorrhoids. It is absolutely a must to be checked out and be tested.

You need a colonoscopy just to make sure.

Same exact thing happened to me last summer and I freaked out. I'm not old enough for those kinds of problems. I'm only 37, and while I'm not a perfect picture of great health, I'm not in that bad of shape.

Turns out it was some internal hemorrhoids and nothing bad at all. The doctor banded them off while i was out from the colonoscopy.

Well let's just say I have a lot of experience dealing with this problem. Last year I was having problems with my Bowels including - Frequent visits, Blood, Mucus, Pains and other less serious stuff.

I was eventually diagnosed with Colitis which will be with me for the rest of my life.

The fact that the blood in the toilet was bright red means the bleeding is coming from lower down which is a good thing!

Anyway I was once at the same stage as you and from many visits to a specialist he told me blood in the stool can come from -

Anal Fissures - Tears in your anus that bleed when under strain.
Constipation - Straining can cause blood.
Hemorrhoids/Piles - Can be internal as well as external and treated with cream.
Polyps - Small growth(s) on your bowel that can become irritated and bleed and also lead to more serious problems down the line.
Then you have the chronic diseases such as Crohns, Colits and a few others.

Best thing you can do is get checked out by a doctor and if that doesnt put your mind at rest suggest having a sigmoidoscopy done which will check the first part of your bowel. A full colonoscopy would be expensive so go with the sigmoid option first. You can also have a Barium enema done but that's pretty rough.

Just regular red( a blob in the water) then it became light pink as it spread out

Go to a doctor. Do not rely on message board posters for a diagnosis or advice on the timing of your visit.

One of the most important things you must learn is how to make a decision. Especially on matters of your health.

Yeah, I didn't see any in the stool its self. yeah there was some on the toilet paper.

You might have a local hemorrhoid issue inner or outer near anal area.

And yes even if it's just this you need to somehow have a doctor take a look at that area, clean your self up before you go and get examined.

Check yourself with your fingers, see if you feel any lumps in that region, you might feel some "cut" sting on the area that might be causing the bleeding (like an open paper cut sting when you touch it)

I don't think he needs to go to the emergency room tonight. He's obviously stable. He can call his clinic in the morning and set up an appointment.

There's only one real indication a gastroenterologist is going to scope him in the middle of the night and he ain't got it.

Well, he is getting some advice that is letting him know that he shouldn't panic considering the info given. It's not dark red, it's not in the stool itself. So those two are huge points to help him relax a bit.

Most are still telling him to see a doc anyway.

Exactly.

OP you don't have jack shit to worry about in my opinion so be at ease. With that said you should have a doc tell you himself that it's a hemorrhoid or an anal fissure.

I've dealt with heavy dark and tarry bled stools from my CD, with pain that can be described as that of having a knife in your gut, etc.

Thankfully all I had was Crohn's and not you know what.. I know it can be scary to see blood in your toilet bowl because I saw that shit for many years, nearly daily. :|

I'm glad mercaptopurine (6-MP) has kicked the shit outta my CD though. 1 pill a day for life but with no major long term consequences from what I understand. I'm all normal now.

No he doesn't. He needs a simple examination in a clinic room, first. Probably a 95% chance of diagnosing his problem right there without more expensive tests.

I beg to differ.

Unless he's got enormous hemorrhoids protruding straight out his asshole, he'll need an internal examination.

My doctor took all of 2 seconds looking at my ass and said there were no external roids showing so we had to go deeper and he ordered the colonoscopy about 2 minutes after walking in the room.

Edit: yes, he needs to see a doctor first. That kind of goes without saying. You don't just walk into a hospital and order a colonoscopy for yourself. But I don't know where you get that 95% being figured out in his office, because if nothing is sticking out his ass, then a colonoscopy will most definitely be ordered by the doc.

You have to realize though, in the US, that is not really an option for many people. Health care is extremely expensive if you don't have insurance, and even if you do have it, it can still be costly.

Unless it's something you're going to drop dead from if you don't go, a lot of people simply don't go, unless you want to spend the next 60 years fighting off bill collectors.

Your age or family history may have been a factor in that recommendation.

Most doctors will perform anoscopy/proctoscopy with a disposable plastic scope right in the clinic room before going forward with a test using a $20,000 tool plus conscious sedation if hemorrhoids is a likely diagnosis.

A plastic anoscope will easily identify a large internal hemorrhoid.

I'm getting that 95% figure given his symptoms and his presumably young age. And you are incorrect with that last phrase, especially if OP is a young guy.

The point is, the original poster should rely on a video game message board neither for medical advice nor suggestions on when to visit his physician.

This is meant to encourage the original poster to exercise his own judgement. Because learning to make decisions is one of the most important things an adult can do.

Maybe you should call my doctor and tell him how to do his procedures because he did none of that. I'm only only 37 with no family history and he knocked me out and did a colonoscopy to find internal roids.

I wonder if it may be form of colitis or something else like Crohn's Disease aka Inflammatory Bowl Disease.

My brother is healthy but noticed he had blood in his stool about a year ago. He felt no pain and was diagonised with Ulcerative Colitis and put on medication. It's not curable but is treatable. In his case, he'll experience it once in a while as it doesn't always occur.

In any case, see a doctor. It's never a good idea to just wait out potential medical issues.

This same thing happened to me last week, three bowel movements in a row. It got less and less each time, and I haven't had the problem since. I've had little drips before and whatnot, but this was large sploshes on toilet paper and some drops in the water. I didn't go to the doctor, but now I'm wondering if I should.... The only thing is that I currently don't have insurance.

Edit: it was also bright red.

no blood in stool
brigh red blood, a drop or two?
first time?
good health, work out a lot? (do you lift?)
you're fine. relax. everyone gets their ass torn every once in a blue moon.

if its light red its more than likely just anal tearing either because you took a massive shit or... you put some shit in there

its when the stool is mixed with the blood, and its a dark, oozing red that you need to worry about dying

Just once? Probably just small tear from too much straining. But if you can, try not to have another one. It'd only get worse if it keeps bleeding/the skin not being able to heal itself. When that happens then you get anal fissure, which requires a more difficult treatment.

For now, try to stay away from hard carbs (breads), too much meat (anything that are not fish or chicken), eat some vegies, don't use fibre supplement unless you need it (because without a lot of water, it'll just make your stool bigger and harder) and yes, drink a lot of water and have regular bowel movement.

So your doctor went straight to a colonoscopy before trying a proctoscope or rigid sigmoidoscopy? Either he was not suspecting hemorrhoids or maybe your doctor should read up on the current standards of medical care and go back to his textbooks.

Edit: And I assume he did a colonoscopy without giving you an overnight bowel prep? Golytely? Magnesium Citrate? Waste of time and money.

As in an obstruction or as in a diverticular bleed?
Variceal bleeding, usually esophageal.

Put yourself on a high-fiber diet for about 2 or 3 weeks. Avoid red means and high-carb diets. That should help the healing.

Sounds like fissure/tearing, as Dr. GAF has mentioned more than once already. If you're really concerned about it then you'll want to see a doctor, but you should be fine.

I dont get it. Goto a doctor.

If you think you might need to, and then think about seeing what Gaf will think Gaf will always say GOTO A DOCTOR!
