I don't think he's overrated at all. He's had a bunch of iconic roles (Ted, Neo, Wick) but most people know he isn't the most talented of actors. However, he is one of the nicest and most generous people around which is a stark contrast for most of Hollywood. I'd say that is the bigger cause of admiration than his acting chops or good looks.

I think this common complaint is way overblown. It felt out of place, but I have a feeling it was the result of a script pass where they wanted those characters to have something meaningful to do. After that gets resolved, you don't really see her.
