Keep in mind that what follows are MY personal recommendations of the games i know and i think are worth the money. Feel free to recommend your own games, because im bound to have forgotten some.

Recommendation for Whispered world:

Trailer

http://store.steampowered.com/app/18490/

10,20$
6,80€

Okay since these were the last new deals anyway, I might want to get your attention to a game I wasnt even aware of being on Steam. I LOVED it, and here were my original impressions:

Its definitely worth 10 bucks.

One of the best and truest to the roots adventures when you liked the Sierra Adventures like Kings Quest VIII. Some Puzzles are a bit out of the world but you are definitely in for a treat. Its definitely my favorite adventure by FAR of the recent years. Actually I was thinking about creating an OT when it came out here, but it wasnt out in America yet and I wanted to wait. Well seems I missed that point.
The game is great, has some unbelievably charming characters, smart puzzles (that get hard later on) and a very memorable ending.

The Whispered World is a great, one of the best and definitely the most underrated of the recent adventure games. Highly recommended. The voice of Sadwick is annoying though.

I really liked the Tales of Monkey Island and the Sam and Max games as well, but there werent many other "classical" adventure games on par in my opinion. it really pushes the feeling Sierra was going for.

Oh and its beautiful:

Whispered_World_1.jpg

Fair warning, though: The cinematics are not as beautiful as the rest of the game and the voice of the main character might get annoying.

And again: Here is the trailer.

:)

Thinking about this game makes me feel happy. Its also actually the only game me, my girlfriend and my sister played through. My sister hasnt touched any videogame since Diablo 2 and just for the record: Its about 20 hours long.

Thanks for putting this together. It's nice to plunk down, say, $20-25 on the last day and just pick up some of the stuff that's not featured and that you wouldn't have otherwise bought. I picked up Tiny Bang Story, which is a pretty cool sort "hidden object +" kind of game.

Of everything in the list, I recommend VVVVVV most highly. $2.49, 2-3 hours, retro lo-fi platforming goodness. Very fun, very challenging without being frustrating, well worth your time.

Someone tell me what you buy on a very underpowered PC. :)

Most of the games have accurate minimum specs listed on their respective pages. Chances are most things that are classed as and look "indie" will run on anything, even a netbook. May I recommend Machinarium (point-and-click dystopian robot adventure game) and VVVVVV (platformer)?

Does VVVVVV have controller support?

Not natively, but if you use Joy2Key it can. The game only uses digital left/right (no analogue movement) and one button, so even if you're not a big keyboard fan I can't imagine you'd have any trouble.

Holy shit that's an awesome round-up. I picked up Aquaria and Garshasp early on in the sale. Can't get Garshasp to work, but Aquaria's interesting.

I think I'll buy Machinarium as I've been eying that one for a while, and I'll check out VVVVVV. Thanks!

Great thread, Salsa.

Of the games you listed, the one I can't recommend enough is World of Goo. If you still haven't played it, do yourself a favor and buy it now. It's one of my favorite games of the last ten years.

Well, I was wondering if I'd buy anything on the last day and now I know I probably will.

May I suggest Eversion be placed on the list? It's $2.49 and it's a 8/16-bit style platformer with a.. ugh, anything I say will just spoil it.

Buy it and play it without reading ANYTHING else about it. Trust me.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Hacker: Evolution collection? $5 is probably cheap enough to just buy it blind, if nobody's got awful things to say.

Sweet, gonna keep this thread open for tomorrow.

BTW, Rome: Total War Complete (Gold(base game) + expansion) is 6.69$; so is Medieval II Gold (base game + expansion). If you also bought Empire+Napoleon yesterday for 10$ then it's a pretty good deal for sub 25$ for a bunch of Total War games.

Definitely recommend Syberia I + II, and both The Longest Journey games, some of the best adventure games in ages.

Definitely also going to get Nation Red since it looks pretty fun. Still on the fence about Garshasp though.

Are people still playing RO1?

I'd like to recommend against buying Doc Clock. Boring; uninspired "puzzles"; awful gameplay mechanics.

+1 for VVVVVV

Eversion is $2.50, but is the extra polish worth it over the freeware version?

It was a daily deal so if tomorrow is a recap there's always that hope.

The Princess of the Flower Kingdom has vanished! She was taken by the Ghulibas of the north, and it is up to brave Zee Tee to rescue her. On his quest, he - and you - will discover the hidden lands behind the peaceful kingdom, and come face to face with secrets that will set you on edge!

This is the high-definition version of indie fan favorite Eversion, now with Steam support! Complete achievements and compete against your friends in Time Attack levels!
If this game interests you, heed this warning: JUST BUY IT AND PLAY IT WITHOUT READING ANYTHING ELSE.

Even that sets up that there's something more to it, but damned if that isn't better than watching a YouTube clip.

How many of the games listed above can be played with a Xbox 360 controller? I only want to play PC games on my HDTV while sitting on my comfy couch, so every game that can only be played with a keyboard and mouse setups is out.

Snuggles

erotic butter maelstrom
holy fucking shit, what a thread

I'll probably buy at least two of those now. I highly recommend VVVVVV and Terraria: pay $5 total for two brilliant games.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Perhaps you're better off just playing with a console.

The problem would be that even if the games were controller compatible, you'd still need a KBM to launch the games from Steam, so if it's an absolute line that you will not cross, none of these games are fine.

If, on the other hand, you've got a wireless keyboard and you just prefer a controller, ask about specific games. Support varies. Also the Wireless 360 controller has slightly worse support than the wired 360 controller, so there's that as well. Plus some games might be keyboard only but it might be feasible to do a joy2key mapping.

Great job with the thread, Salsa!

To everyone that was waiting for Bloodlines to go on sale:

Fucking buy it. It's worth $13. Hell, it was worth $20. No more excuses. Buy it. (and don't forget to patch the fuck out of it)

IMO, there's nothing that this version offers that makes it worth it over the freeware version.

DREAMFALL! I must get it and play it again!

One of the best games ever right there. And it's bundled with the original, another amazing game.
I thought Dreamfall was a bit meh, although The Longest Journey was amazing (I played them both for the first time a few months ago).

I already have a console (five of them). I've got a big HDTV and a nice couch in the middle of my room. All my consoles plus my PC is connected to that hub. HDTV is set up as a second display. I'm not going to sit in a corner playing on my PC monitor when I've got a better setup. (Although my PC monitor is pretty nice too: 30" Dell)
