I don't see any titles in particular evolving gunplay to anything new.

Doom 3, for me, was the biggest disappointment of my life. Now there I can buy the complaints of boredom and lifeless shooting. And that's also a game where I left off and then later tried to pick it back up and just couldn't be bothered with it. HL2 had me firing it up day after day till completion.

I liked Doom 3, maybe because I never really sat down and played a Doom title before Doom 3 and I had no expectations for the game at all. It gave me some good scares late at night.
