Very happy to see this go through. I once tweeted a quote from President Biden to President Biden and got suspended for 7 days on twitter. “Bullying and harassment/threats” which is hilarious since it was what he had said, just goes to show.
Place is a shit show of intolerance. If you have any opinions not on CNN you’re gonna get lit up.

Who has “all of their data” on Twitter?

I’m pretty ambivalent about this whole thing…I think people acting like Elon is their lord and savior are just as dumb as the people acting like he’s going to unleash Armageddon…but if anyone takes Twitter so seriously they’ve got their medical history on the site, they’ve got bigger problems to worry about

So much this.

He’s now Voldemort where they replace characters in his name so their Tweets don’t show up in searches.

You know what - I didn't care about any of this one way or the other, but this ☝️ is so absurd that I feel like I have to take a stand just on principle.

Imma go buy a couple of Teslas on Monday out of spite. :lollipop_steam_nose:

Twitter will be officially delisted from the NYSE on November 8th, as the shares will move to X Holdings. $54.20 per share. Is anyone here going to get a payout from this?
Seeing lots of tweets of people saying they are finally free to use the N word and R word on twitter. Is this stupidity serious or some counter meme?

Twitter has not been fun these past 48 or so hours. People say to merely block or report, which is fine, but when they're infesting like a third of the threads I am trying to read through it becomes a hassle. Someone seriously called me a litany of slurs in a thread about cooking BBQ.

BBQ.

The irony in all of this is that Musk is going to have to crack down hard on the hate if he wants to keep advertisers, which is the exact opposite of what his fans were expecting.

Edit: Study here

He's either going to have to go in full hog banning the hateful, or watch his latest acquisition die as advertisers flee. Gonna be an entertaining few months

Someone said ITT he should make it western Wechat. If he does. BOOM. Wechat is basically, everything in one app.

That sounds very on brand for 4chan and I agree it’s been much worse the last few days. I basically follow wario and slickdeals yet I still see this mess.

Dusted off my Twitter account. Surprisingly decent feed after blocking Rob Reiner and George Takei. My outgoing tweets still consist only of retweeting some contest for a chance to win. But I never win, sad!

Not allowing slurs is absolutely what I was expecting. It's a very simple action that doesn't silence anyone's opinion, and the vast majority of people on the platform would likely want things that way.

It seems to me that people define hate differently so as long as you are not being a complete reprobate in a normal person point of view I don't see a problem.
I think we all know what goes over the line so to imagine that Elon Musk is gonna start letting people go wild with that sort of shit is pretty stupid. No offence.
Twitter will be exactly the same inane boring twats talking absolute shite to each other. So no loss for me or for you.

If that's what Musk will do it should be easy as hell to implement. If Yahoo Finance's Conversation tab can filter out all inappropriate words by overriding them with random %*#%& characters for like 10 years, I'm sure Twitter's genius engineers can activate filters too. If they want to take it further by outright deleting the tweet go ahead, that's their call.

Twitter already doesn't allow slurs
Right, and apparently Musk hasn't changed any of the content moderation rules yet, so at least it's not a result of that. Hopefully in addition to not allowing slurs, Twitter can soon find better ways of preventing them from getting posted in the first place.

The rules of Twitter should be very simple. No incitement of violence, and no GENUINE racial hatred.

Everything else is fair game imo.
Add “no kiddie porn” to that list. The last bitch in charge of content policy failed to enforce that, but would absolutely kick you off if you said something as simple and true as “men have peepees”.

Other than those things, you’re free to block if you don’t like what someone says.

I recently created an account because I couldn’t lurk anymore without one. After that I discovered that the best way to use twitter it not following anyone. Just put people in lists. No algorithm manipulation and no ads.

Do you know about third party frontends like nitter.net? That's how I avoid an account.

It's hilarious seeing all this complaining on the very platform they are complaining about.

It'll be very interesting when/if this all comes to light. Has Musk instructed moderation to be reduced? Have some moderators and developers gone rogue and are trying to sabotage the company? Will the disaffected try to make their Twitter with blackjack and hookers? Well, maybe no blackjack and hookers as they'd disapprove of that.

Not that Musk cares. Right now he's hosting a Hallowe'en orgy in Romania to which quite a few of the richest people alive (and possibly among the richest to have ever lived) have been invited.

All the stories about musk and this are so juicy. He’s going to be seen as a complete moron.

I couldn't possibly take any media hit piece at face value, and there will be hundreds of them in the days to come.

I do not trust reporters who are incentivized to make you hate or fear the subject of their reporting. At the same time, I'll be all for people holding him to account for the kind of platform censorship that might help him to do business in places like China. I'm sure there will be plenty of genuine criticisms and concerns to be raised, but there will also be a lot of bad faith that finds issues that always existed on Twitter and holds them up as if they were new.
