Lost Soul Aside, a hack 'n' slash game developed in partnership with PlayStation's China Hero Project, was one of the highlights of ChinaJoy 2023. The title was playable at the event and appeared in a clip almost 10 minutes long.

The game just got rated in China, hinting at a 2024 release

Is this that game that looks like a Soul-less version of Final Fantasy XV mixed with Devil May Cry???
Yup its the one.

From the time this was announced, a complete numbered Final Fantasy game AND a new entry in the Devil May Cry series have been released.

Crazy.......but im still going to give it a go either way.

It was initially being developed by a single developer until Sony stepped in to publish in 2022. Since than it’s grown to about 40 people but still that’s nothing in comparison to the size of the teams for those mainstream titles.

China Hero Project picked this up in like 2016 or 2017.
Sure the team isnt the same size as the FFXVI or DMC5 teams, but mate its been basically 10 years, and I highly doubt they are doing anything that would require that much dev time.
Even for a relatively small team.

How can you possibly say the bolded, after being told it was being made by literally one person?

Because, its not being made by one person.
China Hero Project picked up this game way back in 2016.
Even if they scrapped everything he had done up to that point and started again from scratch (design notwithstanding) the game is more likely an RPG-Lite than a full blown RPG so realistically I would have expected this game in 2022, maybe even 2020.

What they show the public of a "game" in a trailer and what they actually have working as intended and ready to be enjoyed back in the lab are usually two totally different things. Games unfortunately just take way more time to make than people understand (and more time than developers want to indicate, whether from naivety or negligence, when they display their work to the public.) I get that it's been a long time, particularly since it seemed to have its direction set back when it was first revealed (and also it was described as being " in the final stage of development" way back in 2017,) but game development can get complicated and messy, and what ultimately matters is the final product.

In any case, Lost Soul Aside was at the ChinaJoy fest last July, for those who haven't seen anything of it before or in a while.
