Was there a game shortage or does the PS4 have an unusually high digital market?

That's an average of ~25-30% for Dark Souls 3 and The Division.

Dark Souls III ratio is 18,75%. A little higher from the average for first week (the game had a 80% first day sellthrough, that played its part too) and in the end it will fall to the usual 10-15% standard.

Division is indeed high (22,09% for 3 weeks), considering most of these sales came at first week.

I updated missing digital releases and it appears high digital ratio of Division was also helped from the Gold Version Ubisoft released.

Hmm... not sure Culdcept is a great fit for amiibo cards, to be honest. Seems to me the audience buying that sort of game would not really be interested in amiibo, let alone (expensive) amiibo cards. Besides, what kind of cards would be interesting enough to be featured on actual cards? It's not like Animal Crossing where the characters are iconic enough for that.

Then again, it's true that they're done with the AC amiibo cards for now. They do "need" something to "replace" those, and a card-based video game wouldn't be a bad choice...

Well at least we'll know for sure on Wednesday.

It sells almost entirely (or very heavily) in the bundle, lol. Its not Splatoon.
What I really worry is how the Wii U low shipments will affect the game. I guess the game will appear time by time on good weeks, but it's surely going to be bad for a game that shows the Wii U capabilities.

Really, both Super Mario Maker and Splatoon could do A LOT better if there wasn't those Wii U shortages, expecially Mario Maker....

Then again, Splatoon has rarely if ever been bundled.

We can "guess" how Super Mario Maker standalone version is selling using Tsutaya.

Apart from the General Top 20 Ranking, there's a Top 10 ranking per platform:

Tsutaya Ranking Wii U Top 10 Week 18

01./02. [WIU] Splatoon <ACT> (Nintendo)
02./01. [WIU] Star Fox Zero <STG> (Nintendo)
03./04. [WIU] Pokken Tournament <FTG> (Pokemon Co.)

10./09. [WIU] LEGO Marvel's Avengers <ADV> (Warner Entertainment Japan)

Super Mario Maker is placed behind Pokken and Star Fox but above Mario Kart 8. You can deduce how is selling without the bundle. Including it is above Splatoon.
So yeah, 70-80% of its sales are coming from the bundle.

SF5 1.4mil shipped.

I found this part interesting in their prospects for the next fiscal year:
In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release the strategic titles of “Sengoku BASARA Sanada Yukimura-den” (for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3), which showcases the life of Sanada Yukimura, and “Resident Evil Umbrella Corps” (for PlayStation 4 and PC) of the “Resident Evil” series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year. Additionally, the Company is also scheduled to launch “Ace Attorney 6” (for the Nintendo 3DS system) and “Monster Hunter Stories” (for the Nintendo 3DS system).

Capcom finally making new games for current gen systems? Yay! Since these would be October~March titles hopefully we see some of these announced at E3.

Might as well ask here: Any mention of Dai Gyakuten Saiban in the Capcom earnings report?

I am still the saltiest herring that they don't localize it. I don't get it, if they want to grow or even solidify the interest in the Ace Attorney IP in the west, then why skip the spin-off that could have easily maintained their AA5 momentum through last year.
Anyway, that's Western talk. Did they mention anything on its Japanese sales? Did it at least meet expectations?

Dai Gyakuten Saiban didn't met Capcom's expectation and sales were "slow" according to the previous report published Janyary 28th. I believe Ace Attorney 6 will do very good though.

Not actually that important
Do you guys know if the delicious N3DS LL Super Famicom LE will also release in the west (EU mainly since the SNES here matched the looks of the SFC) or, even better, if there are plans for a matching coverplate for the N3DS? Most beautiful LE handheld I've ever seen!

Given the LE is extremely limited in Japan (you had to order via Nintendo's website until May 27th), I doubt there'll be a western release. Nothing on cover plates.

Japan might be thursday 16th then.
I was expecting something related to Splatoon, though. But I guess Mario is more globally.

Actually, looks like retail release might not be global. EU PR doesn't mention the retail release, just the update.

I guess we'll have to wait for NCL's Topics post to get a confirmation. As for Splatoon, I guess they want to save that for the inevitable NX version.

Also, Nintendo seems to be the publisher of the retail version, MS logo is nowhere to be seen on NA boxart.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I don't know: the only logo on that cover is Mojang's, there's nothing from Nintendo.

Yeah it's just Mojang on the NA box. If anything the MS logo will be on the back cover.

Now a Japanese retail release, that depends if MS publish that just as they did the digital release.

Sorry but no, it was an attempt to tone down the repetitive and boring tune of the death of Star Ocean (we had exactly the same for Street Fighter in NPD / GFK threads). Look at it this way : no one ever considered the fact that Nintendo would shut down Monolith Soft after XenobladeX performance, so I don't understand why Star Ocean should necessarily be buried when it does equal or better numbers. There is no logic here. And just because of this opinion I'm suddenly tagged.

You're comparing Nintendo to Square Enix which is the problem. It's just a really bad comparison. Square Enix has killed off franchises that have done much better than Star Ocean 5 before (like Bravely Default w/ the budget of Second). It's also already a declining IP. Nintendo's a first party, and Xeno X did remarkably well (at least in the West) despite being the sole RPG on the console and being heavily handicapped by the Wii U. Nintendo needs franchises to help sell hardware. Nintendo released a Sin & Punishment sequel for fans of all things lol. Square Enix is far more picky with what they release.

Edit: I guess I was pretty late in replying to this... nvm.

Either late Sept/early Oct or mid Dec look most likely now.

Edit: Actually they probably won't want to get close to Final Fantasy XV either. So maybe mid Oct.

This is being discussed in another thread, but it's worthwhile bringing here.

So on this fiscal year Capcom is released a 2m Monster Hunter title, which most would guess it's Monster Hunter Stories. However that's the same guess that was made last year when Capcom released a similat statement, that time the game was Monster Hunter Generations.

2m for Stories sounds really high anyway, even if it's a worthwhile release, with that and the fact that they're not refering to that game by it's official title hints that it's an unnanounced MH game.

More interesting however is the second game, the 4m range seller. In 2016 the only Capcom franchises that can have a game sell more than 4m units worldwide are Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, seeing how Capcom might have already two MH games planned for this year I really doubt it's that.

With another statement they made earlier it's undoubtly it's a Resident Evil game, most likely 7 given how much time has passed since the remake of 2 was announced.

It it's Resident Evil 7 and if it releases in 2016 then PS4 could have most of it's major releases coming out this year, and during the last third of the year, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil 7 and Yakuza 6.

Yeah 2016 should be one heck of a year for PS4 releases.

RE7 should (I hope) be a given for this year since like you said more than enough time has passed since the last mainline entry and 2016 is the series' 20th anniversary.

For the third game though I would love for it to be DMC5 and it would fit that 2 million range but it doesn't seem like the game is all that far along in development for it to release this year. In terms of major titles another option would be REmake 2 but again that one has also not been in development for long.

It's probably Dead Rising 4 by Vancouver.

I dunno, I just don't see what else that "Monster Hunter" title could be:

- 2m is too high a PS4 game (especially if it's just another port/enhanced version)
- 2m is too low for a new 3DS game (unless it's another "let's set the bar super low to show how super awesome sales are in the end" thing, like they originally did with MH4 which had unbelievably low expectations at first). A MHXG is a possibility given how popular the original release was, but I'd expect the western release to have all the stuff from the G version.

I'm really stumped with that one. It's true they said the same for MHX last year. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

(Or you could go the "Everything should be on NX" route, and assume that 2m title is a launch MH game (most likely HD enhanced port of MHX), and the 2m are sales ww which would still be really optimistic anyway. So yeah, nah. Not to mention that 2m in one month for the NX itself is really optimisitc too).

Definitely expecting October now. One of the reasons is that new anime season starts in October. That and December seems a bit risky with Pokémon out in November.

Hadn't Capcom given a 2m forecast for Monster Hunter Stories before or I'm imagining things?

There is no doubt Monster Hunter Title is Stories, If they decide to release another traditional entry for December it could be the one labeled as MajorTitle 2 and it will be some sort of expansion of Cross which had 2,5m forecast last year.

I don't think they've ever given a proper forecast for Monster Hunter Stories, actually. Considering it was not going to be released before the current Fiscal Year, it makes sense that they wouldn't give one until now. Personally, I don't remember any other forecast that than 2.5m we just discussed.

About the "Major titles", I wish they'd said which region(s) it'd be for. Because 2m in one region = major. 2m ww = not so major. That'd certainly help pin down possible "candidates".

Capcom doesn't publish many games anymore. 2 million worldwide is major for them.

What Monster Hunter could they even do on 3DS now? I don't think they'll pull a Game Freak and make Monster Hunter 5 on it, that just seems like a bad idea (also 2m would be REALLY small for that I'd think).

Maybe if anything it'll be Monster Hunter X G (despite them saying it wouldn't happen IIRC) on 3DS and on NX at launch (it'd make the FY) would make sense.
