Even in Japan GTA V never dies. Also seems like new baseline for PS4 is around 20k.

New Taiko higher than the Wii U game but lower than both the previous two 3DS entries and even the Vita entry. Software sure has been on fire lately in Japan. Burnt away charred fire.

Kadokawa's first international game plan thing with Root Letter also not doing jack. Forgot which one is next. The SRPG thing?

Wasnt there some arguements that Taiko for Vita was a bad choice of platform? Still remains to see how this 3DS version will sell in the long run, maybe it will match the Vita version of 150k, but it doesnt seem like the platform is really the big issue here. Feels more like a Guitar Hero senario to me (too many games in the serie, and people get tired of it).

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Oof, that drop for AA6 is steep. How does it compare to the previous games' second weeks?

Most recent entries, going by Media Create

AA4 - 81.6% second week drop
AA5 - 84% second week drop
AA6 - 87% second week drop

How much do you think Mighty No. 9 will sell first week in Japan? (I assume it is getting a retail release in Japan, not sure though).

The list with Taiko sales posted above has Vita Taiko at 102.7k.

If you think the new Taiko 3DS will sell only 150k LTD let's just say you'll be very off.

This is the end of Ace Attorney, isn't it? :(

Naah. It's lower than AA5, but its sales fall isn't so catastrophic that could make Capcom think it's time to end the franchise altogether, far from it.

I wonder if an NX port released around launch window could help, even if a little

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice second week drop is in line with the previous releases on 3DS. The problem is the weak first week opening compared to the previous mainline entry.

[3DS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies <ADV> (Capcom) {2013.07.25} (¥5,990) - 46.266 / 288.144 (-81%)
[3DS] Great Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken # <ADV> (Capcom) {2015.07.09} (¥6,264) - 23.326 / 159.517 (-83%)
[3DS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice # <ADV> (Capcom) {2016.06.09} (¥5.800) - 28.306 / 225.369 (-86%)

Lifetime retail sales won't reach 300.000 unless they had shipped that amount and it will be thanks to huge discounts, sell-through is still <80% (>282.000 initial shipment)

Edit: According to Dengeki ~ 295.000.

Not sure why people are surprised, Phoenix Wright never had good legs. I can't think of any narrative heavy game like it to have good legs in Japan.

Dragon Quest heroes 2 still doing pretty good. Hope the psv demo brings more people on board and the game can inch closer to the original. People were expecting huge dropoffs around here so the game has definitely done well for square and koei.

In other news,i saw some tweets going around about how there were lines everywhere for PSVR preorders. Seems like it might have a good start atleast

Ace Attorney 6 will fail to sell its first shipment.
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 sales increased this week according to both trackers, meaning that probably price drops started already.

All 3DS software is underperforming this year, Taiko it's this week victim. I know that it will have legs, but obviously in a slower pace than past entries.

Pre-orders for Yo-kai Watch 3 are very ugly (lower than Busters). But the big bombas of the year will probably be Puzzle & Dragons X and even Monster Hunter Stories pre-orders look very bad.

Yeah, a lot of negativism but it's reality.
As a positive thing, Harvest Moon 3 is looking solid, a good opening should be expected, but probably will be more frontloaded than past entries, so LTD might be lower at the end.

Oh sure, I am not saying they are planning mobile-only 30-40 hr RPGs priced at a premium, and I think the general idea of spreading their properties wider is a good way of mitigating risks and costs. I just think their approach has been of a wildfire variety, and their general handling of mobile titles and failing to upkeep them with newer versions of iOS/Droid. Was Chaos Rings that was the most recent victim of this? I can't imagine this inspires consumers and, over time, they're just going to not want to buy your product. So this goes into eating away at their claim/hope for long-term profits from these titles with sales and such and simply long-term existence in a perpetual digital format. Add in their sometimes awful port jobs and, at some point, the people who buys these products will probably ask themselves why they are tossing money at low-effort, uncertain future endevours from a major company. And, then, when you slap a premium price-tag on it... why would anyone buy such a thing? I'd sooner expect people to grow ever more hesitant and only purchase when things are on heavy-sales... which defeats the point of a premium product, I'd imagine. (Of course, you also have to get consumers to actually be interested in buying these premium products in the first place on mobile.)
Looking at the titles they do and don't support, I get the sense they only drop support for the ones that no one is buying or playing anymore.

We can debate if that's a good idea, but given they're reporting good sales for their newer premium titles, it doesn't seem to be stopping the audience that's actually engaging with their products.

More, when I was speaking of their shooting in the dark, I was thinking more back to and echoing Takao's assessment of the... "successes" of the DQ "migrate the fanbase" and, more, to things like World of FF which still feels woefully misplaced as Vita/3DS makes infinitely more sense than PS4/Vita (though, this being built, likely, in Unity or Unreal obviously makes it difficult to put on the 3DS where children would actually exist to purchase said product aimed at children). Heck, I think DQXI makes more sense as a Vita/3DS title (if it were to be limited to two platforms) than it does a PS4 title in any capacity, with PS4/Vita/3DS being the obvious actual winner.
They're pretty obviously just making the games where they want to make them at this point and then putting in some level of market consideration if it's too much of a mismatch (see the 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI). Square Enix has basically decided what they want to be and are forging ahead toward that end as opposed to optimizing for market conditions.

There seems to be some level of consideration for the wishes of their partner companies. I don't think Dragon Quest Heroes would have been on Vita if Koei Tecmo didn't request it.

The year of Yokai-Watch has ended. Time for the king (Pokemon) to make its glorious return.

Nintendo 3DS is slowly entering into the last stages of life. Evidently sales are still solid because it is a system with a 20 million userbase and gets popular third party titles, but its successor can't come soon enough specially being this the only business profitable for Nintendo. The good thing is that it has more than enough fuel in the tank to last until next year.

Also seems like new baseline for PS4 is around 20k.

Been that way since last year, heh.

This is fair, of course I was thinking more long-term and I feel so far (when these titles have come and gone) has still been in the short term and the overall number of titles they've axed or failed to support is still low. But you do win the point in that people are still buying so you are probably right in that the title getting chopped are those with little interest in them.

There seems to be some level of consideration for the wishes of their partner companies. I don't think Dragon Quest Heroes would have been on Vita if Koei Tecmo didn't request it.

That would have ended badly if Vita had not been included.

Well Taiko will have legs, just like it always does. I know it'll be down from the others but I'm betting it'll still make bank for Bamco.

Poor for Root Letter though. Kadokawa seemed to be pushing it fairly hard yet it's another bomba, next one alongside Natural Doctrine.

Wonder when the legs are gonna stop for Minecraft/Splatoon/Mario/Youkai. The latter is still doing well despite the fact the IP isn't what it used to be.

And hooray, Vita version of DQH having best legs. 200k next week!
