Though it was kind of disappointing to find out that De Niro and Pacino never did do any filming together.

Then what is this?

They were all filmed separately due to conflicting schedules. Yes, even that amazing diner scene.

lol

How is this rumor still going around when there are a number of different pictures of them together on set, including the diner scene, they share the frame in a number of shots in the movie, AND both them and Mann have confirmed that they filmed together many, many times over the years.

Screening was last night. Variety posted a summary of the chat.

The Academy's twitter said "look for videos soon."
And Kilmer spoke about visiting the prison his character, Chris Shiherlis, would have done time in. He was filming Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” at the time, but was more enthused about the work he’d be doing with Mann and company. “The most fun I had doing ‘Batman’ was preparing for ‘Heat,'” he said. “I miss it.”
Heh, nice.

I think a lot of it might have to do with pan and scan picture for whenever it was shown on TV or on older home video formats. Thank god those days of picking up a cropped feature on video is dead.

Also, hey.

Keanu has a great look about him and I love the guy but I'm so glad Kilmer got it instead. He's much better with dialogue

I think Keanu would have been good in the role too, even though Kilmer did a good job.

After seeing John Wick I can understand why he was considered. I think someone here said Reeves may not be that great at speaking, but in terms of movement and presence he's terrific.

Miami Vice is flawed but it remains in my mind as a minor miracle. It's like an indie movie with a 150 million dollar budget. The ultimate version of Mann's realism combined with his hopeless romanticism. Plus the digital cinematography was gorgeous for the most part, especially compared to Public Enemies. I don't know if that movie's look was the fault of the new cinematographer who wasn't familiar with digital but it looked like shit.

I find LA Takedown (the movie this was based on) is far superior in all departments.
Take the famous restaurant scene for example.

Heat:

Heat does not have the chemistry of energy of LA Takedown.

to bad Michael Mann never made a good movie

To bad you never made a good comment.
Go back to watching Micheal Bay movies.

LA Takedown
Hest
The Last Of The Mohicans
The Insider
Collateral
Thief

Mann is excellent!
