sega and microsoft agree to consider strategic alliance to create sega's next-generation strategic titles and build a next-generation development environment |, sega co., ltd.

SEGA Co., Ltd. (SEGA) and Microsoft Corporation ("Microsoft") will promote title development using various Microsoft technologies on the cloud platform Microsoft Azure in order to create a large global title that is listed as Super Game in SEGA's medium- to long-term priority strategy. We agreed to consider strategic alliances centered on the construction of SEGA's next-generation development environment by utilizing microsoft's solutions.

IN RECENT YEARS, FULL-SCALE DEPLOYMENT OF 5G AND CLOUD SERVICES HAS BEGUN, AND THE SOIL IS BEING PREPARED SO THAT ALL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET CAN EASILY ENJOY HIGH-QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT CONTENT AT ANY TIME. UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES, THE ECOSYSTEM SURROUNDING THE GAME INDUSTRY IS RAPIDLY EVOLVING AND EXPANDING ON A GLOBAL LEVEL, AND AS THE WAY PEOPLE ENGAGE IN THE VAST COMMUNITY DIVERSIFYS, THE GAME ITSELF HAS RISEN GREATLY AS A MAJOR MEDIA OF THE NEXT GENERATION. LOOKING AHEAD TO A SCALED WORLD WHERE SUCH DEVELOPMENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ACCELERATE FURTHER IN THE FUTURE, SEGA IS DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE TITLES WITH THE KEYWORDS "GLOBAL", "ONLINE", "COMMUNITY", AND "IP UTILIZATION" AS MEDIUM- TO LONG-TERM GROWTH STRATEGIES.

In order to develop Sega's Super Game, in particular in the area of building the network infrastructure and communication tools necessary to provide global online services, we will leverage Microsoft's technologies on the cloud platform Microsoft Azure and cooperate with each other to further evolve technologies, Furthermore, in order to shift sega's development environment, which changes every day, such as the diversification of work styles, to the next generation type, we agreed to consider a technical tie-up between the two companies.

COMMENT FROM YUKIO SUGINO, PRESIDENT AND COO OF SEGA CO., LTD.

株式会社セガ 代表取締役社長COO 杉野行雄

We are pleased to announce today that we are considering a strategic alliance with Microsoft to develop Sega's Super Game and create an advanced game development environment. By building mutual cooperation in areas such as SEGA's game development capabilities and the construction of microsoft's cutting-edge technologies and development environments, we will further advance game development that can be enjoyed by game fans around the world.

Comment from Sarah Bond, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Corporation

But they already use it in Phantasy Star Online 2 NG lol

That's why PSO2NG doesn't come out in English for ps4/5. They host the English servers on the azure. Nothing really special beyond saying they will use it I stead of Google's lol

Azure? like what Sony and MS were doing too?

Same thing. But it's gonna be fun to see the meltdowns of the console warriors who don't understand what this means. 😂

Yeah, and the console warriors who also cheer for this because they think it means exclusive games from SEGA.

Sounds like a lot for possible mmo or mobile game stuff.... Hopefully something good comes from this like a sequel to sonic 2006 😋
Question What GIF by Nerdist.com

There's an online game hosting part, and a part about cloud-based development, pretty much like Ubisoft's developers have been using Stadia to work collaboratively on builds.

Of course, as this thread clearly shows, not many actually understand a word of what this announcement means 😂

Aren't everyone a company works with a strategic partnership or were they just winging it when they made Persona exclusive for ps4?

"Alliance"

The alliance would form a key part of SEGA’s mid to long-term strategy, allowing the business to move forward with “Super Game”, a new initiative for developing new and innovative titles where the key focuses are “Global”, “Online”, “Community” and “IP utilization”.

I guarantee Microsoft will be getting some big Sega IP to use as part of Game Pass day one launches and exclusives as part of the cloud, consoles and PC.

So basically nothing happened?

This is not the same. This goes a bit further than that. Sony said nothing about seemingly allowing some kind of "IP Utilization"

This screams major Game Pass partnerships. Sony's deal did not signal any such thing, just that Sony would be using Azure to improve their services. This Sega announcement goes a bit further.

It's SEGA that's doing the "IP Utilization" by developing games within a dev environment based on Azure.

This has pretty literally nothing to do with Xbox.

Why do I even bother... 😂

You can have your own interpretation, I will gladly have mine. And the Sarah Bond involvement speaks volumes if you know what her strategic role and purpose is within Microsoft. This directly means big things coming to Game Pass from Sega.

There's no interpretation. Xbox isn't mentioned a single time in the announcement. Xbox's news channels are completely silent. It's all about Azure.

But it's hilarious to see people unable to understand something this simple, so do go on. 😂

Actually it is pretty much exactly the same. Why in the world would Sega create a partnership with Microsoft to use Azure for the purposes of "Game Pass partnerships"?

Sorry man, but you are reading a lot of stuff into this that just isn't there. This is exactly like Sony's agreement with Microsoft to use Azure. Nothing more.

It's about building games, but it has literally nothing to do with Microsoft's games division? Did you even read what the hell you just said? Sarah Bond is an important and dead giveaway here.

Sarah Bond means Xbox + Games, but most especially, Game Pass.

Sarah Bond was a very important piece of the Bethesda deal also, and is directly tied in to Xbox. If anyone believes that she is presented as having a major role in this deal, and it has nothing to do with Xbox at all, despite her role in the Bethesda acquisition round table, and despite her role at the Xbox & Bethesda showcase for E3, and despite all else she has been demonstrated to be apart of relating to Xbox and Series X, and that whole shabang prior to lauch and since, I have a bridge to sell you.

The language in this release goes quite a bit further. It's very much about building games with Microsoft cloud technologies, but if you seriously think there won't be any benefit at all to this alliance as they call it for Game Pass and Xbox, then I guess prepare to be surprised. They leaned a lot heavier into this one than was the case with that Microsoft and Sony deal. And, I'll say again, Sarah Bond is a dead giveaway.

It looks like my dream of having Blinx in Sonic Team Racing is coming one step closer to being a reality.

You do understand that Sarah Bond is simply the closest contact between Microsoft and Sega, which means that she likely worked on mediating this? I understand that you likely don't understand how companies work, but it should be pretty obvious. Sarah Bond's own comment doesn't make a single hint to Xbox, Game Pass, or anything of the sort. It's all about Sega and Azure.

This is about Sega developing games, and acquiring tools to do so from a company that sells them (and has been selling them to a large bunch of people, as mentioned by Satya Nadella three days ago).

Again, why do I even bother... 😂
