Microsoft Edge Update Looks to Make It the "Best Browser for Gamers"

I use firefox but some of their recent changes make no sense. Like, why the fuck would you remove the "show image" function? Now it absolutely has to show it in a new tab, if you just want the picture alone, meaning more useless tabs.

Thankfully, there was an addon that re-added the feature. Bu i still don't get it, why remove something so useful?

The Series XS won't be the PS5 on this generation (unless the PS5 shortages continue for 7-8 years) but Microsoft could beat Sony on the tomorrow war:

- Fortnite/Free to play on Xcloud
- Samsung Gaming Hub with GFN, Stadia, Xcloud.
- 1440P/FPS/Latency boost soon
- Kojima cloud native game
- Xcloud easy access on Edge

Clearly, Sony isn't doing enough to take the leadership in this battle.
I don't think Sony needs to do anything besides repeatedly pushing out the type of game they're known for. That's what matters according to this forum, and streaming will never take off.

jesus, at least use Brave or something, Chrome is basically the worst chromium browser or of the bigger ones
Doesn’t matter, there is so much attached to your google account that makes chrome indispensable. Mainly for me it’s google drive, google docs, sheets,

The xbox app cloud gaming quality sucks for me. I downloaded Edge, it's so much better. Not going back to the app until they update it.

? you can use all of these on any browser tho... what exactly requires the use of Chrome that makes using these services so much different than on another browser?

Ease of use, you don’t have to log into everything individually. You just have to sing into chrome and pull up your apps.

But it's just Chrome
Yes and no. It's Chromium with bespoke integrations. With that said, it may not be in MS' best interest to exclude Xbox integration for people with other browsers, so.. We'll see if this is a watered out ad for Edge.

Anyway, I switched to Edge a year or so ago after having done the full round of Opera, Firefox and Chrome, and "couldn't be happier" (although of course I have all of them installed anyway..).

Yeah, for now at least Google services work just fine, even in Firefox.

There was a period of time a few years ago that they had constant banner 'warnings', were buggy, or even straight broken (especially in Firefox, but even in other Chromium browsers).

For security purposes, Brave is currently the best of the bunch out there.
Not a fan of the 'viral' marketing campaign they seem to use (posts on various online communities all sounding suspiciously similar), their website has some questionable claims, and the cryto shite is off-putting.

It's also just another Chromium browser at the end of the day.

The API to block webRequest is replaced by a declareNetReuest API which is less effective. Firefox will implement MV3 but keep the API to block webRequest. Edge already has an adblocker built into its mobile browser(its turned off by default) which I hope they consider putting in the desktop version.

MV2 extensions will stop working in June 2023.

Google and Microsoft have a conflict of interest because of their advertising businesses, much more so Google, but ms have bing so I doubt they will implement a built in solution. Best case would be for them to do what Firefox are doing and keep the webrequest API I guess

Oh I know. I am aware of that.

So why is having a in-built default browser in Windows Microsoft's fault? We don't blame Apple and Google for bundling Safari or Chrome into iOS/Android? Why should Windows not come with a default browser?
No no, I am not saying that. They can certainly push it as the default browser. But it's not part of the OS even if they don't allow us to uninstall it (although until now I thought you could uninstall it lol). Anyway, I said in the post you quoted:
I know they definitely try to push it as the default and pre-install it; but it's not integrated into the OS.
I don't think Edge is tightly integrated into the OS like IE was. Perhaps my way of describing or understanding that isn't correct.

Edge is quite good but it's still using Chromium which sucks especially with MV3 coming next year. I use Edge as my secondary browser but if I can't use adblockers on it anymore then fuck that shit. Same goes for any other Chromium based browser like Opera/Brave. Chrome is the most used browser for a reason so it works for a lot of people but Google has too much control over the internet. I don't want to go back to the days of having a fuck load of ads/pop ups appearing again. Look at how aggressive Google is with ads on YT these days and now imagine how Chrome will look in 1-2 years time.

Firefox is the best browser.
This is why I never "update" without knowing exactly what will happen.
I already lost too many good plugins and functionalities to shitty "upgrades".
Chrome on Android doesn't allow plugins, and it's only a matter of time that desktop Chrome will be the same. If developers don't wake up quick we're in deep shit.

im tired of having to switch browsers every few years. i went from IE, to firefox, to safari, and now chrome (probably tried dozens of others in between all that). chrome that i use now works fine, there is no need for any other browser. now once chrome starts being a bitch or they start trying to add/remove features and it becomes a mess (which somehow finds a way to happen but i have no idea why), then yea i will have to switch

so until then...

IE has been retired. Edge is now default.

Try Vivaldi. Its made by the OG Opera devs and based on Chromium after Opera was bought by another corporation
Opera was bought by a Chinese company, yes, after they had laid off most of the development staff in the Oslo office. Vivaldi picked up many of that staff (including myself) and still have the main office in Oslo, Norway.

still on that firefox gang gang, idk about this removing of adblockers bullshit google is pushing. do you know how insufferable certain pages are

Edge works just fine.
Work forced it on me and now I just live with it.
Waiting for the day they pull all the ad blocking stuff. I'll look for something new when that day comes.

I'm on Firefox because I'm used to it and I like the privacy features. Never gonna use Bing willingly (or Chrome for that matter).

Love the look of the UI and the features.

But you've tied yourself to Chromium and the languages your UI is coded in make it incredibly bloated.

Bing is only really good for porn, not much else. Google and Duck Duck Go are terrible for it.

But they have a built in solution in the mobile browser(its turned off by default, you have to enable it in content blockers). A fully functioning ad blocker is present in Edge for Android(it also blocks ads on bing). Microsoft has said that they will implement MV3 without any changes and end support for MV2 in 2023. So the only hope for Edge users is if they decided to bring over the adblocker from mobile version to desktop.

I came into this thread thinking:

How could a browser cater to gamers? Isn’t this some useless surface-level shit? I guess the only real way it could help me is if they made a browser with a minuscule memory footprint. Anyway I click in and it is indeed some useless surface-level shit.

"Gaming" browsers that advertise low resource usage as a key/critical feature always seemed like snake oil to me.
Browsers are a resource hog, sure, but memory is plentiful all the same. I can have 10 browser tabs open in the background and games don't even flinch.
Are they made for people still rocking 8 GB of memory?
