Symptons include craving bananas and having a strong urge to fling your poo at people.

More than 200 people are being tracked for possible monkeypox across 27 US states

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed 200 people are being monitored after coming into contact with a man in Texas who caught the disease in Nigeria

More than 200 people in 27 states in the US are being tracked for possible exposure to monkeypox.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is monitoring people who came in contact with a Texas resident who contracted the disease in Nigeria earlier this month.

The unidentified man - the first ever case of monkeypox in Texas - is stable and in isolation, the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services said on Friday, The Independent reports.

The monkeypox virus is a member of the same family of viruses as smallpox. It is far less severe and experts say chances of infection are low. It is mostly found in remote parts of Africa.

Its symptoms are similar to the seasonal flu and include swelling lymph nodes and a rash on the face and body.

The CDC in a statement said: “CDC is working with the airline and state and local health officials to contact airline passengers and others who may have been in contact with the patient during two flights: Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta on July 8, with arrival on July 9; and Atlanta to Dallas on July 9.”

The agency also said all passengers wore masks due to Covid-19 restrictions, so the “[risk of] spread of monkeypox via respiratory droplets to others on the planes and in the airports is low”.

However, the CDC is working with the airline to assess “potential risks to those who may have had close contact with the traveller” on the plane and other areas.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jankins said: “While rare, this is not a reason for alarm and we do not expect any threat to the general public.

“Dallas County Health and Human services is working with local providers, as well as our state and federal partners.”

Monkeypox is rare but has been discovered in the US before.

So he either nested with, licked or fucked a monkey, most likely. It’s possible they just flung poo at each other as in the examples above. There’s your real story.

Bumping for new case in Boston:

First case of monkeypox confirmed in Massachusetts

Health officials say the case poses no risk to the public.

Auto-playing video warning at the source

The virus is a rare but potentially serious illness that typically begins with flu-like symptoms and swollen lymph nodes, before progressing to a rash on the face and body. Most infections last 2-4 weeks, health officials say.

In parts of central and west Africa, where monkeypox occurs, people can be exposed through bites or scratches from rodents and small mammals, preparing wild game, or having contact with an infected animal or animal products. It does not spread easily between people.

Transmission can happen through contact with bodily fluids, monkeypox sores or items that have been contaminated with fluids or sores, such as clothing or bedding. The virus can also travel in respiratory droplets during prolonged face-to-face contact or be passed through sexual contact between men.

No other cases have been identified in the United States this year. Two states reported a case in people who traveled to Nigeria in 2021.

Since early May, nine cases have been confirmed in the United Kingdom. The first case had recently traveled to Nigeria.

We're all already vaccinated against this shit, it's the same as small pox.

Unless you're not, in which case sorry you're dumb.
Virtually every American under 50 or so has not been vaxed against smallpox except military who were deployed. We stopped routine vaccination in 1971! Hardly makes someone dumb.

When/where were you vaccinated for it? If folks dig in against the covid Vax, just wait till they have to deal with all the issues with the smallpox one!

Monkeypox sounds like a 90's comic character.

All jokes aside it sounds awful. Two to four weeks of flu-like symptoms and rashes? Woof, no thank you.

Also in the UK.

Both live in the South East of England - where most of the cases have been identified - and it is thought they got the infection through spread in the community, rather than travel.
Monkeypox is usually linked with travel to West Africa.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says the virus does not usually spread easily and the risk to people is low.

Monkeypox is not normally a sexually-transmitted infection, but it can be passed on by direct contact during sex.

Don't have sex with somebody with Monkey Pox!

Don't have sexual intercourse with someone, who's skin resembles the surface of the moon?
Got it!
