Most shameful game purchase?

This might sound tame but the most shame I have is buying the new Lego Star Wars day one digital at full price on Xbox. Buying a full price game day one is unheard of for me, unless it's a really must-have physical copy of a game I've been highly anticipating, that I don't expect to need a ton of patches. So Mario for example.

I just really wanted to play the game and figured I'd give 2022 life a chance playing it on next-gen and not worrying about swapping (or keeping track of/storing) a disc. So I downloaded it, played it one day, then some unexpected stuff happened in real life and I haven't gone back to the game yet.

In the brief interim time since it's gone on sale like twice, we gamers are idiots.

Back to the OPs topic, are there really no decent racers to play? Even on Switch? Too bad you didn't get a regular Switch to begin with so you didn't have to use an android box to look for a game on TV lol. There has to be a thousand racing games on there that aren't P2W they can't all be bad.
There is another word for someone who buys a Lego game at full price. ;)
Trust me, I've been there.

Worst and Best

The walking dead survival instinct for ps3.

Worst: Because I buy it 5 copies for ps3.

Best: Because it was released a little over 3 months ago, I bought the copies at 1 dollars each one (price system error) and I sold them in my country at 30 dollars, I kept a ''Free'' copy ( because my hobby is collecting videogames in many system) , the rest was gain.

I bought a copy of Balan Wonderworld basically as a joke. It (along with a bunch of games I actually want to play) remains unopened.

I also imported a copy of the SMT Nocturne remaster before it had a western release date. I played it for about half an hour - although I did later go back and beat it (after playing the localised release and knowing where to go at what point etc).

I knew before that it wasn't the best game ever but as huge ME fan I thought that my fandom might carry me through it.

It didn't... I can't believe I paid money for this piece of trash.

I pre-ordered this.

Holy fuck what a stinker.

I was conned into thinking Gearbox made good games because Borderlands 2 is such a 10/10. It turns out that Borderlands 2 is the only good game Gearbox has ever made.
Oh man, me and a buddy thoroughly enjoyed this. I think we put in about 120 hours before the servers got taken offline.

I mean even if you didn't like the PVP aspect of things the PVE campaign was very robust, especially in co-op. I found it really odd that so many people got up in arms about that game, almost to the point of being anti-Battleborn as if to make a statement to the level of sophistication they have in tastes as a Gamer(tm) lol.

Not many shameful purchases. I regret only buying Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 a few years ago. It is not that it is a terrible game by any means, but only more of the same "deep as a puddle" combat style that CyberConnect2 is known for. All style but not substance type of game. I appreciate the work put into the cinematics but that's not enough of an excuse to not improve their combat in meaningful ways at the 4th entry of the Ultimate Ninja Storm series. Played through the campaign once and never looked back.

Maybe I would have had a better time if I played it with a friend. All the pvp or co-op I did was with random online pick-up groups.

Yeah fair enough. Some games are simply better experienced with friends or the like.

Still, I think it's a shame we live in a world where Battleborn was shat on so much for all the wrong reasons. Same with Strange Brigade by Rebellion. A game which is simply superior to their main Sniper Elite series but severely overlooked. We played that as a party of four and completely rinsed it and its DLC content. Wish we would get a sequel to that instead.

Probably BF2042 . . . however I've played that some and I haven't played a lot of better purchased games in my backlog, so is it really the most shameful purchase?
Same for me. I could not enjoy the map design and character design. The game has so many flaws it was an instant regret for me. Literally 100$ in the trash bin and couldn't get a refund.

Very few video game purchases are shameful it seems like gamers are tired of subscriptions, DLC and fed up with spending high amounts of money on risks.

I just got the $70 standard. Played it with a friend some. I expected more from the BF Portal. I thought I'd get into all kinds of custom games, like handguns only games.
I plan to give it another try though cause I hear there's a no vehicles mode now.

Lupin3

Targeting terrorists with a D-Pad
Bought a skin pack (weapon, character, dog) in MW 2k19 for around $20. I claim temporary insanity.

But that black AK-47 with enhanced visuals and audio actually made the game even more intense, so fuck you, Activision, for not including such a simple thing in the "base" game that already costs a fuckton of money.

And I didn't get to sic some balls even once.

2 season passes for Magic The Gathering: Arena.

I enjoyed it a lot, to be honest but it's basically the only time that I have participated in an F2P model with actual money.

That game is great! Git gud
The game sucks. I hated it. It wasn't the difficulty that was the issue, it was the entire game. Movement was bad, jump was bad, all of it was bad. I even hated the design. It was the game Nintendo Power convinced me to buy and I regretted it.

Nintendo Power was very good at convincing you to buy random games. Found some gems though.

When that intro pop song started I literally jumped off my bed and ran to close the door so my family wouldn’t hear it. I still feel a sense of shame and embarrassment about this game.

This game was like the exact moment when Square Enix stopped caring about taking video game storytelling to the next level and instead decided to focus on cringe waifu crap and corny shounen anime tropes.

I was like 12 y/o or so. I loved the idea of having city areas to explore with my sims + all the added stuff.
But man, having to lend the cashier a game with that cover art and title kinda felt like I was purchasing a porno or something. :goog_relieved:

And of course once I was back home I had to hide that case away from my parents gaze. In fact, I think it's still hidden somewhere at my parents place.

No vehicles, that's interesting!

I've to admit portal was really slick though. Like you said, I wished there was more to this mode. Lol, I might download the game to see it's current state.

My friend started playing it again after this season started and that new no vehic mode. I always liked the close quarter combat from other bf games without the vehics. So I'll check it out. I miss the Metro meat grinder days.

There are some HORRIBLE purchases in here. Notably gtaV 4 fuckin times!

Me: playstation move. Garbage. Any motion sensing system is pure garbage. Shit for days.

LA Noire... Such a boring game
I bought the game, played about half of it the first weekend, and decided I didn't like it. I put it on eBay and got like $50 for it. Then the guy pulls the "disc didn't work" gimmick and asks for his money back. By the time I got the (fully working) game back and sold it again, I only got like $30 out of it since it wasn't brand new anymore. Big L on that one. Pretty sure the buyer just didn't like the game, there was nothing wrong with the discs.

Ahhh, you mean Battle Passes.

Relatively strange thing to do as simply finishing a Battle Pass gives you enough credits to "purchase" the next one, but to each their own.
Yup, but now I'm not going to do the first one that would give me the rest. Ive found that I play to earn the weapons and most of the time they are better then just nerf them anyway. In every cod game I've found that all I need is a mp5 and a silencer and all is good.

Come at me now.
This thread is about shameful purchases. Some are ashamed to have purchased that game 4 times. I agree. If you're not ashamed of buying it 6 times then good on you. I'm talking about those who are ashamed so no need for the come at me shtick. Right? I'm not here to say what you should be ashamed of. I'm just agreeing. That's messed up to me.

I hold my head down in shame because I knew before going in the mobile app greed but got hooked anyway.

During the pandemic I was laid off of work for a few months. I had a switch lite but there weren't many games at the time I really wanted to play on it. I didn't have my ps5 yet so was in game limbo. I am an absolute sucker for fun good racers the issues being they rarely make them anymore. I was cruising on my Android TV and discovered Asphalt 9.

Asphalt 9 has everything an arcade lover like me wants: Great racing, Slick cars, Active Player base, Online record chases, online racing multiplayer, etc etc. Alas, Asphalt 9 is like that bitch that looks like a 10 but will rob you for every penny you got. A real Devil in disguise. My short story:

Off for a few months and nothing but time on my hands back in March of 2020. I discovered Asphalt 9 in the android app store and happen to have an sn30 pro+ controller to pair along with it. I was playing it on my shield tv and it was a great experience. At first one can make real progress and advance in the game. Then you come to a point where it's really hard to advance because you simply don't have the cars or parts. The game has a pay wall that kinda forces players to buy "packs" to advanced or have good enough cars to compete in tournaments. The game will throw a few good $5 dollar deals at you and I was thinking what the hell I don't mind paying a few bucks to play this. That last for a little while and as one advance the packages one needs will raise in price. Before you know it I was dropping $20 on a "great deal" sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. Having too much time on my hands, loving the actual racing game, and my own stupidity was a recipe for disaster. I played the game for a month and a half and finally got sick of the pay walls. At the point $49.99 "Packs" could be purchased and still not help one advance. They had multiple "$99.99 bundles" as well. The most I would got was $20 on a "pack" but the issue was I purchased a lot of them.

So after a month and a half I am going over my bank statement and was hit with the slap in the face. I spent $300 on this game in a month and a half. The ironic thing was even at this point I was stuck and couldn't advanced. One could argue you could play this game for free without spending money, but you would die of old age trying to really advanced without spending real money. I dropped this game like a bad habit. It's a shame because the game itself is really fun. The paywall makes it damn near impossible to play at a competitive level unless you have money to burn.

Great Game+Greedy Bastard Publishers+My own stupidity = I HANG MY HEAD IN SHAME!

Lesson learned? Do not play any android game unless you can buy the full game out right.
These shit "games" prey on us at our lowest points. This ought to be a warning to those who say "just don't spend money on it lol!" Its explicitly designed by psychologists to part you from your money.

I bought the Midnight Pass DLC for The Saboteur. If you're not familiar with it, it unlocks the can to make the cabaret dancers topless.

In all honesty, I only bought it because I wanted to support the game, because I had bought it used for about $15. I loved it, and knew that it had sold poorly, so I wanted to do anything I could to add a few more dollars to the bottom line.

But at the end of the day, it doesn't change the fact that I bought it and activated it.
