Count how many big budget Hollywood movies you have seen with a majority black or Asian or Native American or Latino cast ... Or how many have been that aren't about the civil rights movement? Hollywood is about green... They are SLOW to change.

I'm trying to give you a different perspective... Why are you fighting me on this?
Demographics, how do they work? If anything, Hollywood has been overcompensating the past several years in a patronizing and insulting way (race swap of already original works instead of new creatives), no doubt.

But since you want to play,
Black actors held 15.5% of lead actor roles and 18% of overall acting roles, as well as 9.5% of directors and 10.4% of writers.
And that is with being 13.4% of the population.

Also, you are going on the typical "blame whitey" tirade instead of pointing the finger at the very person in creative control. Ah well, was a fun chat.

I like movies that present an interesting twist upon an old legend, but this movie sounds terrible, like an old '90s porno DVD with all the good parts cut out, or a riff of MJ's video for 'Remember the Time" featuring Magic Johnson.

I'm hoping we get a RedLetterMedia review!

You got EVERYTHING wrong in what I said! Know what? I'ma leave the chat... I'm not going to play your game. It's been fun.

Explain what I got wrong? Educate me.

Because I don't understand side stepping into Hollywood is still predominately white as a rebuttal to Smith and her political motivations to create a stir with the Cleopatra falsehoods. As if she is exempt of her wrongdoing because of some perpetual white control scenario. At least that is how I read it. If I am wrong, explain.

If anyone explored every regional/country history, probably all countries had slaves at some point. It's just a matter of how many and how publicized it is in modern media and books to tell the world.

For example, if youre saying the Ottoman Empire had Asian slaves, I didn't know that. I would had thought Ottomans and Asians did their own thing. You never know, maybe Asian dynasties back then also had slaves from the mid east. Who knows.

But modern day slave talk is almost always either Europeans taking over Africa (British and French), or American Civil War. So people think slavery is limited to that.

Africans even enslaved their own people, which helped out Europeans coming over wanting to buy. But it looks bad culturally if someone makes a tv series or movie based on African leaders and slavemasters selling their own people.

I just did a random google to see if there was slavery in South America. Well low and behold, get a gander at this. Who knew. When was the last time anyone talked about this in a movie or school book?

The case for slavery in central and south America was very tragic. It starts with the native population being exploited as slave labor.
One example was the silver mine of Cerro Rico de Potos, where thousands of native Americans were used as slaves in some of the most brutal ways in human history.

But because 90% of native Americans died from diseases brought the old world, the Spanish and Portuguese "had" to import slaves from Africa.
So one of the greatest's tragedies in human history, lead to another great tragedy.

The Portuguese slavery system did have one positive point about it. One that was common on most slavery systems in the world, but wasn't used in North America.
This was the ability for the slave to ear his/her freedom. A slave could buy his own freedom, and several did. This was one of the reasons why there were more slaves brought to Brasil than to the USA.

Ultimately, the point you’re making is correct, it’s just that Hollywood are now vastly over correcting, because they don’t have the time, emotional intelligence or talent to redress the balance in an equitable way.

Nobody wants to put the hard, expensive yards into actual projects that might help the situation, because– frankly - they probably won’t make enough money.

Better to hijack a documentary about a famous Greek white woman, that people will watch… rather than try to make a documentary about an actual African Queen, that most people probably won’t.

Everything is down to Hollywood’s laziness, risk aversion and greed. Both the decades of poor representation… and this overcorrection.

I think it's funny that the director she's wrong and she still pushes back. Like who the fuck are you to tell someone what their history is?

Of course she sounds like one of those people who enjoy telling Jewish people their history was wrong, that their people weren't really slaves so they don't have to feel bad when dick riding ancient Egypt.

Wonder if Jada (spelling?) is just the latest actor/ actress to have the general public turn on her. Just wondering if the Chris Rock slap had any impact on peoples receptions of the movie. I myself have not seen it, nor would I want to watch it. Not into period piece stuff... but curious about her overall likability in hollwood now.

Now?

Try EVER.

I don't remember exactly when Jada came on my radar ('round the Matrix 2?) but I don't recall there ever being any positive buzz around her. I can only dream about what highs Will Smith could have attained had he not hitched himself to her.

I'm glad to not give a single fuck about star wars anymore...
I am looking forward to this particular movie.
Not for the movie itself which I wouldn't watch even if it was free of charge, but for the accompanying commentary by my favorite YouTubers which is in fact free to watch. I expect exceptional entertainment.

Her best fame was 90s comedy sitcoms and those early Matrix movies. Her career petered out the past 20 years fast.

Even if you exclude the punching incident and reports of her having a fling with a 25 year old rapper while still married to Will Smith, her best fame since then is just Hollywood red carpet shots of her standing beside Will Smith.

As crazy as it seems, she probably got more talk about her shaved head than her TV and movie work the past 20 years.
