Today we are introducing a few new features to the site. We hope you enjoy them.

New Light and Dark Themes

We have redesigned the site from the ground up to be cleaner, faster, and easier to use for desktop, tablet, and mobile users. This includes an overhaul of our site navigation that puts the things you love front and center.

Navigation

mCHyCvg.png

From the main header you can access - from left to right - the full menu (more on this later), the home page, the site's three main forums: gaming, communities, and off-topic, your watched threads, hot threads, and new threads. On the right you can access your account menu (including bookmarks), conversations, alerts, and search.

In tablet mode, each header section is replaced with just its icon

In mobile mode, this condenses down even further.

The sub, hot, and new sections are hidden here to conserve space, but don't worry as they can still be accessed from the sidebar menu.

Depending on which section of the site you're currently viewing, that section will be highlighted in the top navigation

to access the full navigation menu, you can click the menu button in the upper left which will bring up the sidebar. From here you can access the Marketplace, Streams, Giveaways, and more.

Thread List

There are a few changes to how threads are listed on the site. These changes were made with readability and quick access to relevant information in mind.

Tags (such as |OT|, News, Opinion, etc.) are now listed in the byline of each thread.

XGkiFbg.png

This keeps the thread list easy to read as the thread titles are kept left-aligned. This design carries through to the thread itself:

Your avatar in the thread list. To indicate a thread you've started, your avatar will now replace the GAF logo on the left. This will make it easy to find threads which you're the OP.

uX91SNU.png

Additionally, to the right of a thread now you'll see your avatar for threads you've posted in. This will also make it easy to quickly identify which threads you've participated in before.

Dark Theme

We built a dark theme that looks great in low-light conditions and can help conserve battery life on OLED devices.

Sorry dark theme users - there wasn't a way to easily migrate everyone's settings to the new designs.

As always, let us know if something doesn't look or act quite right. As I mentioned, these new designs were made from the ground up so it's possible something was missed in the rebuild.

Interesting, thanks for the update!
Not sure if I like the new look yet. Need to use for a bit
What are people using? I enabled Neogaf Dark Theme.
Pikachu face is a great addition!
Still no thumbs down

I'm trying it out too. Pretty solid. Maybe the bottom orange footer a little too bright. I don't think we are getting negative reactions from the last poll we did, but I do think I would like a 'horrified' one. Although strategic use of Pikachu will do am sure.

Hope you all like the new site design! I was never satisfied with Modern and leaned toward the Classic theme ever since we launched Modern a few years back, so the goal here was to take the best aspects of both Classic and Modern and combine them into one uber progeny to rule them all. We have the Classic typeface and thread list with many of the Modern aesthetic elements, but tweaked for improved user experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile browser types.

Special attention was paid to the header navigation, with cleaned up quick links so that you can click between the main forum sections and also your watched threads, trending threads, and new posts, without extra menu diving.

And of course we wanted to give some special incentives to our Gold members, so we included a new Gold-exclusive reaction to have fun with.

A PayPal option was a common request, especially for our non-US members, so that's been added. We also have a Patreon supporter option now.

I'm sure we've missed a few things here and there, so feedback is welcome and we'll try to address any issues.

Thanks!

Make thumbs down emoji as Gold exclusive and watch you income skyrocket. đź‘Ť
That would be stupid if only paying people could not like things.

Anyway. See guys both Dark Themes comparison:
AY3wlkN.png

classic on the left is speaking more to me right now.
Both are just as affecting for oled since there are no full 0 rgb blacks. BUT THAT IS GOOD since at least whole screen gets used about the same. People often get this wrong with oled and use black wallpapers and black themes, so they end up burning the screen usually in the middle uniformly

.Pennywise .Pennywise use classic dark. It's more grey than dark

We hope you enjoy this little surprise.
If you ever get bored and want more work, it would be kind of neat to be able to double click the avatar icon on the right showing that you've posted in a thread, and have it take you to a new tab with the posts listed like a search. When you hover over it now it says how many posts you have, would be sick to click it and see them all listed. But that's a pretty niche feature most would not use I guess.
