Next-Gen NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 With Top AD102 GPU Could Be The First Gaming Graphics Card To Break Past 100 TFLOPs

Yup.
The 3080 was a golden goose by being based on the top chip.
Prior gens xx80 and sometimes even xx70 were on the second largest chip, so the jump to Ti and Titan on the largest chip was mega.
Nvidia is just going back to the old days were xx80 and the tier above werent an overclock apart.

For 3080 owners the real options are 4090 or skip a generation.

Im hoping demand is low for 4090 and MSRP isnt 2000 dollars.....I can squeeze my budget to its limits if the thing is reasonably priced "lol".
Otherwise ill holdout till 1440p60 "max" settings is off the table.

Yeah, ive had a 3080 since launch day so I want to upgrade on launch of the 40 series I was going to go 4080 but I think it will be 4090 for me if the price justifies it.

Not sure if its talked here but in the latest WAN show they talked how NVIDIA has over ordered manufacturing from TMC due to sudden crypto crash. Now they are trying get off from the deal and TMC has said NO. Its either NVIDIA finds another firm to take some of the production for themself or NVIDIA has to get what they have ordered. I'd hope this will have same effect on the coming prices.

The 4090 seems like it will be a beast. The 4080...we'll see, probably the standard 50 percent uplift to save room for eventual Ti version. Anyone thinking 2x 3080 at $699 is wishful thinking.

If I was in the market for a GPU I'd go 3080 now, maybe the 12 GB for 4k headroom. Don't bother with Ti or 3090, just throwing out money if it's for gaming. If the 40xx series launches expensive and if there are further delays the 30xx demand will go up. 4090 is slated for October, Nvidia is helping AIBs clear stock.

As for 3080 performance, it's good at 4k. If you want raytacing on max it will chug but DLSS will get you to 40-60 fps in the most demanding games. I anticipate it's an easy 40xx skip and wait for 50xx. Also the amount of demanding games on the horizon isn't immense. Lots of cross gen stuff still. The only issues is the 10 GB, with raytacing you could max it, but DLSS will help as it renders at a lower res. Should be ok till next next upgrade as long as you use DLSS.

Seems obvious they will be delaying the models under the 4080 unless AMD comes with something amazing. That way they can sell the 30 series stock before launching 4070/4060.

Hell, I wonder if we'll see them rebrand some of the 30x models into 40x just for marketing sake. It wouldn't be the first time its happened.

This 2022 nice things dont exist anymore.
Games getting delayed, Intel getting delayed, now Nvidia getting delay.
Remember July was paper launch for Ada Lovelace.

No RTX 4080, 4070 or 4060 in 2022

AIB partners are willing to forgo their Lovelace allocations until they can clear their warehouses......so Nvidia HAVE to delay or be stuck with chips and nowhere to put them, they can only make so many founders editions.

The effects have already started

I just have the hardest time believing that the 4080 won't launch this year. Especially if AMD keeps their cadence of 7900 XT, 7800 XT and 7700 XT launching. The need to offer steeper discounts along with the AIB's on the 30 series. Gaining parity with the OG MSRP isn't a deal, lmao.

Really interesting to see what AMD will do. They seem to be caring a lot about TDP whole Nvidia is like YOLO with it's power requirements.
Now that they will be on similar? nodes we might see how much architecture matters.

Personally I'd like to see more raytacing stuff where it's much more noticeable. So far it is a nice to have but not a game changer. Kinda have to play a game of spot the difference unless there's a mirror-like reflective surface nearby.

Unless they can come to some agreement with AIBs only the 4090 launches, they can still claim to have the best gaming GPU then in Q2 2023 they bumrush AMD with their High, Mid and lowish tier GPUs.

They will have mindshare cuz no one really follows the midtier at the start, just look at how many videos and views feature the xx70 tier cards, most tech channels will be benching the top end for months, doing crazy shit.

Linus Tech Tips: Triple Monitor is back.....with three yes three QD-OLED TVs....will it game!
Gamers Nexus: Is 8K gaming finally a thing
Digital Foundry: VRAM Disk vs PCIE4 Direct Storage(RTX I/O) vs PS5.....which loads faster?
Alex Battaga: UE5 Matrix Demo at Native 4K with TSR downsampling from 5K, just look at that Raytracing.
TestingG: Returnal at 240fps the way its meant to be played?
Techspot: 4090 vs 7900 Raytracing tests....have AMD finally caught up?

Crazy how everything's been delayed. It absolutely sucks for us gamers but fuck miners and I hope this shit does hit nvidias and any AIB manufacturers profits that fucked over real end users for that mining shite.

That's a fair point. I'll still be shocked if it didn't launch this year, however. We'll see though. Should be an interest next couple months with Raptor, Zen Fo, Lovelace and RDNA3.

Ohhh shit looks like Nvidia really are on track to make the 4090 double a 3090.
Damn....my thirst is killing me....must resist eating ramen for a month...must resist! Gotta stay strong, gotta stay strong, gotta stay strong!

For context RTX 3090 scores about 10,000.

Further still the chip might be over 3,000MHz capable with Nvidia purposely underclocking it likely for heat/power reasons.
The return of user overclocking for tangible returns?
Could Nvidia really be so kind?

MSI probably came on themselves knowing they can put a >9000W powerlimit and make their SupimX massively beat the founders edition.

I don't think Nvidia will only release the 4090 and leave the rest.it the 4090 will be scalped and Nvidia will not repeat the same mistake by losing the scalping money.

4080 is coming this year .

AMD and Nvidia collude with each other all the time. Would not be surprised at all if they have a gentlemen's agreement to just hold back cards until they can dump all the current generation inventory. They're real scumbags.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/n...ust of this,GPU processors and graphics cards.

That article is 14 years old.
Please don't tell me that you're naive enough to believe that companies with a history of collusion won't continue to take every last measure to make as much money as humanly possible. The only result from that lawsuit was that they learned how to cover their tracks better. You actually think it's an accident that AMD and Nvidia cards are always the about same price regardless of the difference in performance between them? You think that's a coincidence?

Jesus.

The 4090 will be a very high demand . Anyone think otherwise isn't thinking right. Specially when it's the highest end model meaning waiting for other cards are just inferior. Do not take the words master race lightly with the hardcore.

4090 will be mine if my 1000 watt psu is enough.....and it isn't 2 grand.

And if its more or less double a 3090.

The 3090 is like the only card that was consistently in stock and relatively close to MSRP, it was always the lowest markup by some margin.
Not even miners were willing to buy it.
Heck Nvidia didnt even bother installing LHR on it.

Not enough people are desperate for a 4090 for it to reach 2021 levels of markup, scalpers will scalp anything but you wont see bot battles happening with retailers, atleast not after the first month.

The 4080, 4070 and 4060 are far more likely to be heavily scalped.

Cretinously credulous
I'm so over the GPU market right now. I'll stick to my 3080. Fuck these greedy ass corporations, and it's not JUST Nvidia.

A good decision in general. 3080 will last comfortably for 4k (especially if you are OK with not having absolute 120fps in every single game) and DLSS is added benefit. Its been less than 2 years since I got the card and I dont see much reason for me to upgrade, especially at these crazy prices. Will wait for the 5xxx series. By then reasonable number games would be there which would bring 3080s to knees.

the different situation here.

1- even the 3090 was nowhere to be found in Canada at least. the 3080 scalping price was close to the 3090.
2- People knew about the performance difference between the 3090 and 3080 and thus the price difference wasn't worth it. in this case, we won't know anything about the 4080 aside from just rumors about performance and nothing about the price. if anything, is it on different 103 and not 102 like the 4090 means the difference is gonna be bigger than 3080 to 3090.
4- a new fresh generation with much more powerful than 3090ti. of course, hardcore gamers will buy it. no question asked especially if it will last them the whole 4000 generation which is usually 2 to 3 years.

Time will tell.
Scalpers this gen for 4090s arent really gonna be a thing after the first 2 months at most.
GPU demand is currently in shitter and alot of people only just got their RTX30s no rush for a 4090s.
The 4090 already is a low demand product simply by being such a Halo product, add in general lack of GPU demand, and i would wager youll find 4090s in stores easy work.

Ill bookmark this post in case im wrong so i can give you your e-cred.................or gloat!

Likely not on the Founders Editions, they'll have a pathetically small power limit restriction (and will prevent users from changing it). It'll likely be up to the board vendors to give us some insane power limit capabilities.

Hell even the 3090 can see MASSIVE gains if you throw power at it. going from 390 watts to 500watts can get you a 10%+ boost, but so many of the cards don;t let you do that unless you moddify them or load other vendor bios on to them. Its really annoying, I have mine watercooled, running 500watts, and never go above 50c in benchmarks or stress test. There is soooo much more headroom, just not enough power delivery/board control available on my specific card

lol I kinda thought of doing the same thing. but then I read your quote saying ( the first 2 months at most ).. that's your 2022 right here. since the I highly doubt will see the GPU before the end of Sept / early Oct.

Not at rumored $2k+ price it won't. 3090tis didn't exactly fly off the shelves in the current market. There's a set number of people with that much money to burn on a GPU. People aren't stretching like they were a year or two ago. Unless Nvidia artificially restricts supply (actually a good shot) and/or delays the launch, no shot this card is sold out for months and/or selling at 1.5x the price on eBay. Maybe $200-500 over MSRP for a month.

There is DLSS .

4090 seems like it's on the route to be the next Fermi . I can't wait for the more efficient design in 5090 . Not that I couldn't afford it , the power consumption and heat is just too much , I might be just holding next gen with my 3080 Ti .

Not only the price is going to be a deterrent, but also it's rumored power consumption. Up to 800W, let's even realistically say 600-700W for a GPU alone is incredibly expensive just to run this beast.
Especially over here in Europe, those power draws will be very heavily scrutinized and be critically viewed by not just gamers but outlets and media.

Unless you are mining with them, even an 800w card will barely show up on the power bill. My 3090 is running at 500watts overclocked, and my computer amounts to a rounding error on the energy bill. People WAY overplay the actual cost of computer power consumption and quote full 100% load peak draw power as the scary figure, and fail to talk about how 90%+ of the time the GPU sits at a much lower power profile.

Cyberpunk is most likely more taxing than most games that will be released this gen.
also noone that owns an RTX card should ever run at native 4K if the game has DLSS available. even at 1440p DLSS Quality mode is usually a good choice

also who knows what settings are used here, some settings are completely over the top and useless... having max shadow quality for example is rarely something anyone should do because the increase in quality is not even close to justify the performance impact they have
