creamsugar said >40k for vita and whats your source for the 3DS number?

Thanks, updated the Vita number. The 3DS number came from someone saying it was down YOY. It's possibly bullshit, since I can't find a citation for that. If we get something better I'll update it. Also, I added the Wii. This is by far the best month for consoles since May*, both gen-over-gen and YOY.

* nothing special happened in May, it's just the first month I collated these numbers.

You guys really want to know why most 3rd party publishers refuse to support Nintendo on consoles since N64?

Watch something like this video, especially at 9:46 to 10:30.

this is nothing new. i mean it's also really old news, like well over a decade old. it would be like complaining about how difficult it was for people to make ps2 and ps3 games, and how sony's graphics-control team wouldn't allow a lot of japanese games to see localization because they weren't 3d.

I'm surprised by the 3DS, its numbers are not amazing, but good enough given the circumstances (i.e. post iOS and android). 3DS will not reach the DS' numbers, but it will probably get closed, or even pass, the PSP's number.

Yeah. It does have a chance of surpassing PSP numbers. 3DS is currently ahead of PSP by at least 5-6 million on the 10th quarter of its life.

Price drops will do that. Now let's see if it can keep this up past the holiday season.

So, can we have the 100% likely bombed Puppeteer numbers?

For some reason it seems to be only game which data we dont have. (Or if we have, correct me.)

. . . Maybe it can perform bit less awfully than expected? :<

Remember back in Januay when we were all shocked at the low Wii U numbers? Who'd a thunk that it'd sell below that from April - August each month.

Last checked this thread about 500 posts ago. Did we get any further info about how Wonderful 101 did beyond not making it to the top 50?

Wii U couldn't break 100K after a price drop and with a bundle.

I said back after July or August that I expect Nintendo to probably settle in around 10-12K per week in October, and I'm sticking to that.
I honestly don't know what you were expecting.

It tripled sales with a few releases and a minor price drop. That's actually pretty good. Increasing to that point with such meager fixes is a good sign for the platform. It wouldn't amount to a dominant position for it, but any sign of upward momentum at this point is encouraging.

It's been selling on average 30-40,000 units a month.

Terrible second month for Pikmin 3. It performed better than TW101, but >60% month-over-month drops isn't good for Nintendo (or confidence in Wii U software) at all.

That Wii U owners have not rallied behind any particular titles suggests a few things:

- weak online community so there is minimal WoM selling any title past launch
- owned primarily as a secondary system, so owners are content with games on other consoles/PC to fill in the gaps
- Wii U owners only bought it to play Nintendo games, and will rally behind Mario

You answered your own question; Wii U owners have disproportionately rallied around NSMB U. It boggles my mind how that game broke 2 mil yet W101 or MH3U or Pikmin haven't even broken 500K worldwide yet.

Since when the Wii U is considered a "secondary system"?

Just the price (even with the precent price drop) take that console out of that category.

If anyone has an answer to my hardware estimates question, please let me know XD

Actually, if Pikmin 3 had a 60 - 65% drop then it had a below average second month drop. In this case that hold would look even better since it was released at the beginning of the month (August 4 = 27 days).

Did MH3U sell more than 10k this month? Apparently it's been selling more than five digits every month, but September had the crazy eShop deal so I'm guessing it sold like shit at retail.

And we need 3DS numbers, c'mon guys.

Really? Mario has far broader appeal than any of those games. They're all good, Mario included, but the others definitely appeal to a more niche audience.

I know, I know...I just get caught up in emotions once in a while.

There are so few games available for Wii U that I was certain Pikmin 3 was going to have a stronger retention getting closer to the holiday season, like Minecraft or Disney Infinity. :-(

Eh Pikmin has nowhere near the broad appeal of both those games though.

Thanks for all the precious data btw!

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

When your lead PR guys voice echos "Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong" with fist cupping in a rhythmic fashion over and over like some kind of mantra, there can't be too much of a surprise when those are the only properties that sell.

Will be interesting to see just how much 3D World can carry the WiiU at the end of the year, but people seem to have learned nothing from correlating W101 Trailer Hype to mass market reality. Its going to sell simply because its a Mario, but the world outside these forum walls isn't going to be breakdancing on the floor of a GameStop or Walmart screaming "BEST MARIO EVER WARRRGHHHHHHHHHHH" the second they see the boxart on a shelf.

This is very interesting. I got the impression that since the E3 reveal for the game was a bit weak, people are taking the improvement shown in the latest trailer out of proportion.

Anyway, my opinion remains the same as it was post launch window. We have already seen the worse for the Wii U, from now on it can only be an improvement.

Yeah, I once thought "Nintendo gamers, who devotedly only buy Nintendo games, would buy Miyamoto's games based on his name alone." Of course I now know that there's no such devotion in the userbase of any console (or else we'd hear of 90 Million sales of first party titles on the PS3 and 360 all the time (bet they wish something like that would happen.)

I had no expectations on September, good, bad, or indifferent. I was only commenting. The only expectation I expressed was October, and for it to settle back down at 10-12k per week before, of course, picking up in November and December with holiday shopping. However, I further expect it to finish behind Xbox 360 and PS3 this holiday, and possibly behind PS4 and Xbox One (if they have enough supply), and I don't think that should be encouraging at all.

It will be very interesting to see what next week's presentation from Nintendo looks like. I hope they give us lots of things to pixel count, at the very least!

I'm ready for nothing, considering NPD has raised the threat levels to subscribers and the fact that the only remarkable thing they have to talk about are 3DS sales in Japan and France.

Maybe the 3DS being the best selling console worldwide this year will give them something to talk about. But even then, sales could be down yoy, giving them little reason to celebrate.

I'm afraid we'll be completely in the dark about the PS4 vs. XBO NPD battle in the coming years. May the best PR win.

Hmm, this is the lowest the TTM for handheld console hardware has been ever (or at least since May 2002).

iPad effect.

We'll see if Pokemon and 2DS can turn it around. Will need to push something like 350-400K units to stem the trend.

(Caveat I don't have precise NDS, PSP or 3DS figures for this month, but they'd have to be much much higher to change the above.)

Thats true. Console monthly sales numbers are the fuel that keep the console wars going. Without good NPD numbers it'll be pretty funny.

Nintendo is the kind of company that would've gotten permission from them to share what they do. They're not anonymous leakers, so if there is a lack of numbers when the Q2 (calendar Q3) results come out, it'd just be because Nintendo didn't want to share them. Considering everything they have shared despite the lows lately, would imagine they'd still have numbers, though. If we don't get a 3DS number before then, may just wait until they release stuff to see if we can get the 3DS number from there for predictions...

No....no....no.....this makes me really sad. This and that the W101 did slightly below 20K. These two games were the most fun I have had in gaming in a very very very long time.

Sometimes one wonders, why do really good games do horribly, while arguably the ones with lesser quality do much better. Now, I am not saying these games like GTAV are bad by any means, they just feel that they are missing some of the charm that games like W101 and Rayman Legends deliver.

rayman legends and w101 were made by smaller groups so the director's decisions were filtered through less people. kamiya and ancel are good examples of auteur game designers if the industry has them.

This makes a lot of sense. Only sad part is, theoretically speaking, if these games were released 7-10 years before, they would have actually gotten the sales they deserve, and in W101's case, the praise it deserves.
