This is our sixth annual look at those in business, politics, science and technology, finance and entertainment whose accomplishments deserve recognition. There are familiar names doing new things (Serena Williams), new names doing historic things (Ketanji Brown Jackson) and inanimate objects doing mind-blowing things (the James Webb Space Telescope). One name, with the initials SBF, also did some mind-blowing things, which helped land his successor (John Ray III) on the list.

No one story dominates the Bloomberg 50 this year as does the war in Ukraine: Volodymyr Zelenskiy is on the list, and so, among others, are Daleep Singh, architect of the sanctions regime against Vladimir Putin, and Todd Boehly, who bought the Chelsea Football Club after Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich was pressured to sell it.

Spencer, Microsoft’s Player No. 1​

Phil Spencer started gaming in the era of cartridges and floppy disks; he even sold them at a place called Computer Mart before joining Microsoft Corp. as an intern in 1988, doing software development for Windows. Now he’s in charge of the company’s top consumer business, best known for franchises such as Halo and Gears of War.

So either Bloomberg knows something others don't, or they are jumping the gun way too early.

But congrats to Phil Spencer, again! I believe this makes this the 4th award he has received/announced he will be receiving this year. It seems the outlets are fascinated with how Phil has handled Xbox, his progress in turning it around, and the jobs he's done with putting the brand into the spotlight.

Though this news clashes with the reports of people upset or questioning why Microsoft wasn't at the game awards, the one award Phil Spencer hasn't received this year.

I mean, he started the deal, sure, but it's not actually done yet. If it falls apart, he just lost Microsoft billions, created a wave of bad PR, and leaves their subscription service plan without a key pillar valued at USD$70b. So, how about we wait until he's pulled it off before we pat him on the back for it?

The deal is as good as done. This is Microsoft we're talking about. They will get what they want. When you have as much money as Microsoft, you can do whatever you want. Not only will they get Activision but also more publishers over the coming years. Activision will open the floodgates.

The deal will go through - the FTC's case is poor, the CMA is copy/pasting Sony's non-sense, and everyone else is already signing off - but the deal is not done yet. And doing the thing is a pretty important part of doing the thing. In my opinion, you wait until the deal is closed before you open the campagne.
