I have heard most of these bands/artists (+1 for including Mr. Bungle), but have not heard most of these songs. Will blow some iTunes cards on some of these. Thanks man!

No problem :)

There is everything from post-rock to hip hop on there. If you're a big fan of post rock, which I think you are (?), please check out Talk Talk, they're final two albums are the forerunners of the genre and their other album I listed (The Colour of Spring) is the best 80s record not named Spirit of Eden or Daydream Nation. It sounds 80s but absolutely rocks.

well, I don't like Hip-Hop but loved Dr. Octagon when I got the album many years ago.

"Oh SHit, there's a horse in the operating room! **** it..."

I love that stuff. To tell you the truth, I have probably only heard 15-20 songs on that list.

and Evangelos, do you say that because of my appreciation for the classics?

I love good new music, but there is something warm about The Beatles, especially Abbey Road, Let it Be, and the White Album.

Also, out of the records I listed, if you like the beatles and older stuff, check out Olivia Tremor Control and Of Montreal, they're basically more modern equivalents and f*cking awesome. Mahavishnu Orchestra also rocks and is very underappreciated.

Gets to pilot the crappy patrol labors
Artist: Tiger Lou.
Record: Is my head still on?

You will, without a doubt, love it. If you don't you're a heartless SOB :(

Mahavishnu are indeed very awesome! I believe the album is "The Inner Mounting Flame" though; not "Inner Mountain Flame".

AlteredBeast, you will love The Crayon Fields. I guarantee it.

I would recommend The Black Keys to you, but I don't know if you like the bluesier stuff from your lists. However, they kick ass.

PROOP

FREAKING OUT MAN
Everyone's contributions so far are good ones. If I could add a few, it would be (the bolded ones are must gets):

Menomena - Friend and Foe

Clap you Hands - Some Loud Thunder
Malajube - Trompe-l'oeil (it's a French Canadian band, but don't let that turn you off)
Klaxons - Myth of the Near Future
Beach House - ST
Peter Bjorn and John - Writer's Block

Swan Lake - Beast Moans
Band of Horses - Everything All the Time
Bloc Party - A Weekend in the City
Be Your Own Pet - (any album)
Boris - Pink
Calexico/ Iron and Wine - In The Reins

BTW, the new Of Montreal album is ****ing awesome. It took me a lil' while to warm up to it, but now it gets almost constant play. My favorite line of the album goes like this
"Eva, I'm sorry, but you will never have me,
to me you're just some faggy girl,
and I need a lover with soul power"

Also, as mentioned above, Asobi Seksu - Citrus is an amazing album.... think a j-poppy My Bloody Valentine Album.

Mmm. The In the Reins EP is faaaaaantastic...so powerfully sad sometimes too.

Always good to snoop in these music threads when I'm bored. Just grabbed Laughing Stock and it's blowing my mind.

For classics: Check out The Kinks! Albums: "Village Green Preservation Society" and "Arthur".
And: David Bowie (albums for starters could be "Hunky Dory", "Ziggy Stardust" and "Station to Station.")

Pink Floyd "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" (this album sounds like a different band "The Pink Floyd Sound")

Also scope out

Syd Barrett "The Madcap Laughs", "Barrett", & "Opel"

it's awesome stuff.

Also David Bowie's "Best of Bowie" is a good all around album.

I bought last night Army of Anyone's album, and am starting to really like it. It's a band formed with the DeLeo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots, so it has some of that sound.

Great recommendations.

For those who haven't listened to Bloc Party, you can actually listen to the entire album A Weekend in the City on their MySpace page.

You need to discover Big Star in a big hurry. You can get two albums -- #1 Record and Radio City -- on a single CD these days. There is absolutely no excuse for not listening to them.

Oh yeah -- better than the Beatles. I said it.

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America

Great album if you like Elvis Costello, Say Anything, and rock n' roll in general. Some of the best lyrics I've heard in a while.

Sheesh, I love Big Star as well. I'm a big Paul Westerberg fan, and he kind of ... showed me the beauty of that band.

My rekindled love for music started at this website... (and GAF of course)

http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/ lots of free mp3's to sample

Like you, I was a product of the 80's and I didn't stray very far from my aging collection.

I can personally vouch for the following artists and I'll even include a favorite song...

Of Montreal - Wet and Rusting
The Shivers - The Road
The Shins - Phantom Limb (reminiscent of classic 4 man bands)
The Apples in Stereo - Energy (Very Beatles like)
Andrew Bird - Spare-Ohs (f'in amazing!)
Cat Power - Lived in Bars
Destroyer - "Your Blood" or "Painter in Your Pocket"(sounds gruesome, but it's not...)
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Cursed Sleep (I love this song)

Other great albums... not one song really sticks out though. Both albums are good throughout.

Grizzly Bear - Yellow House
Band of Horses - Everything All the Time

..and try this song from Panda Bear Comfy in Nautica

You need to download everything from the last Cardigans album, "SuperExtraGravity".

You can start with "Give Me Your Eyes" and "I Need Some Fine Wine ..."

It seems you've got plenty of specific suggestions so mine is: listen to some genres you never have before. Drop the bass, guitars and drums and start listening to DnB or glitch or classical or jazz or trance.
