sorry, but no. Breath of Wild is an infinitely better looking game in pretty much every way.

As much as I think BoTW gets too much credit despite being anouther Ubisoft clone. It's solid use of stylisation makes it a looker, especially for Wii U/Switch game. I feel like some people must be blind or purposefully pretending to be to say Arceus is in the same league.

Arceus also suffers from the other issue of prior pokemon games, stiff basic robotic like animations. Don't get me wrong I know game freak, I don't expect anything from these guys, but is this honestly the 3rd game in a row that they will be recycling the same models and animations from a 3DS game?

Super-fair comparison pictures, as these remarks always tend to use. It's like me saying BOTW looks like ass in comparison using these pictures:

Yes, BOTW does look better than Arceus, but it's not like there's galaxies of difference between them. And BOTW had its share of barren spots as well.

I mean just look at Arceus.

tons of copy and paste, low poly, very angular, everything flickers, limited visibility, everything is empty, there is nothing in the distance to encourage exploration. It wasn't like that in Breath of the Wild.

also the colors look weird. can't exactly tell why, but it just doesn't seem to flow. it looks wrong. Breath of the Wild certainly has some technical issues and the Switch holds it back, but despite that its still a very pretty game.

Arceus looks like a student unity project made by a Breath of the Wild fan.

do you think the pictures I used are worse than yours?

The most of the time you won't look at a building or at a zoomed in "thing". Most of the time you will look at the open world.

Its actually pretty fair since Arceus is tagged as open world(even though it isn't) and each of their videos shows the "overworld" as well. People don't even need to cherry pick, the only thing you're doing is showing specific places, the ones that are not part of the overworld concept.

are you serious?
They both look like ass dude, it is really a race to who look worse.

Infinitely is a big word, like going from killzone 1 to killzone 2, that is when i would use the term "infinitely better"

But hey, if you think that botw looks great in any shape or form and not a low res galore, be my guest.

Do people actually want this shit? Just give me an open-world game featuring all the previous regions and their Pokémon, complete character customisation, a choice of which order you tackle the regions/gyms in, and an epic storyline that takes you across the entire map.

Breath of the Wild has a great art direction, several fantastic looking shots, a world that feels vivid. Obviously it has technical shortcomings, but considering the hardware limitations its a great looking game. Playing it on PC gets rid of most shortcomings.

Pokemon Arceus is legit one of the most ugliest games I've ever seen. It's not the art direction, it's the execution.

Just because both games are colorful and attempt to look like a playable drawing (something out of the impressionism era perhaps) doesn't mean it's a race of who looks worse, come on.
I keep on calling it "infinitely better", because it is. No matter the draw distance, objects, use of color, lightning, poly count etc. etc.

You know what... why are people comparing this to Breath of the Wild?

There is already anouther semi open world monster catching/fighting game on switch...

Wouldent it be more fair to compare these two?

Oh.... oh no...

Gameplay looks mildly better at least. I like that your charactee is still there and could possibly get hit by a pokemons attack.

Still, I had a terrible time with sword and shield, and it played worse than a 90s open world game. Not just because of the graphics, the animations and technical qualities were just bad and the whole game felt extremely dated. It still looks like they are using 3DS assets too. I don't think I'll buy a pokemons game until game freak go and its handed to another developer.

The fact that you need to post a video of the pc version kinda speaks volume about how good looking the game is in his original (and legal) iteration...

Best thing about botw are some cartoony models (and i'm really scraping the barrel here since other games have infinitely better cartoony models) and the signature cartoony bright grass, the locations look like ass because it is everything in low res, i replayed 15 hours of the game not even 2 months ago and it still look like complete ass, xenoblade 2 looks much much better if we talk beatiful vistas.

I mean the devs of Pokemon Arceus definitely wanted the comparison.

Just compare those trailers. Gamefreaks definitely tried to sell you on the idea of this being Pokemon's answer to BOTW.

well BOTW is technically much more profound than you are giving it credit for, doing a lot of interesting things despite the limited hardware and has an even, consistent, defined art style. including several interesting a nice looking shots. I just brought up the PC version due to BOTW's technical limitations (framerate, resolution). Point is, if the game wouldn't look good in the first place, emulating it on PC would hardly fix anything. You would just polish a turd. But because BOTW is a good looking game, emulating it and installing mods enhances its visuals.

They do the comparison because they know that switch users don't care about graphics, they don't have nothing to lose and everything to gain if they can convince even 1000 guys that the game is like botw...
About the rest, what botw does mechanically was never the point of discussion here, my point is that it doesn't look infinitely better than pokemon because the hardware is still the same shitty tablet, it is kinda a miracle that xeno 2 looks much better tbh.

Pc emulation does wonders for everything, you put binary domain ps3 version vs binary domain in 4k it already looks much better just for the resolution bump, and i know for sure that zelda emulation on pc is more than a resolution bump, they touched many things if i remember well.

agree to disagree then. Even the grass/weed in BOTW is infinitely better looking (and also more complex and dynamic), so I'll keep on saying infinitely better, because it's true. The fact that both are released on the same limited hardware doesn't really matter when judging the visuals of those games. Good developers and good designers/artists can do a good job even with the limitations in mind. In all honesty, it separates the wheat from the chaff. If you emulate Arceus then emulated Arceus will look somewhat better, but it won't fix the fundamental visual flaws it apparently has. It's still a turd, just a turd in 4K and 60 FPS. BOTW in 4K and 60 FPS on the other hand is a treat.

Yeah i think that we are gonna end the discussion with a disagreement here since i don't think that botw really looks that much better than pokemon except the artstyle.

It looks terrible, but it also does look interesting. If there's enough depth and it's not your usual pokemon game with difficulty tuned for infants, I might consider it.

Looks good enough to me. It's a step in the direction I wanted Pokémon to go for a long time, so I'll check it out.

Comments about the art style and technical shortcomics really do surprise me, because this literally looks like Breath of the Wild. Like the same exact engine. And that game was met with glowing praise.
I know twenty other people are going to tell you you're wrong, but I also want to. You need to get your eyes checked. BOTW looks much better in every way.

Does anyone who speaks Japanese know what you actually do in the game? Is it all just walking around, dodging 50 different reskinned linear AoEs (do you even take damage, have a health bar? I didn't notice one), and pelleting wild Pokemon with random stuff? Or are there actual battles of some description, like against other trainers? I mean, what do you do with the Pokemon you catch, apart from summoning them here and there to attack once against a wild Pokemon?

From the video this seems nothing more than a collection of glorified Safari Zones playing out via very poor real-time TPS combat.

yeah, there is one tiny bit of hope left that it will be interesting to play. Despite the game looking as ugly as sin (from a pure artistic view, I've seen more pleasing games on the PS1 and technically it's pretty much a relic from the PS2 era, Wii era at the best), at least they try something different. That deserves some credit.

As a non-Pokemon fan, I think the game obviously doesn't look great visually. It looks below what you would expect from such a successful franchise.

But at the same time, the game obviously looks like the best and most interesting Pokemon game since the originals. The gameplay seems dramatically improved, including mounts and even flying mounts. If it ever goes on sale, I'll consider it.

Some of the exaggeration in this thread is nuts to me.

They made this game

Proving they're are purposely gimping the visuals in pokemon games.
If they needed help they could always hire more staff or get resources from Nintendo as they've moved into the same Kyoto building with them.

You obviously haven’t played Little Town Hero or you’d realise the extreme ends of the spectrum it and Arceus have in terms of size, scale and scope.

The Switch is weak by current standards but some people keep forgetting that it's still in the ballpark of the Ps3/360, actually outperforming them in most games that have been ported over.

The Switch runs games like Assassins Creed Blackflag:

With bigger urban areas, with more complex geometry, tons of NPC's, big naval battles, real time combat, etc.

Let's not pretend Pokemon Arceus is even close to the best they could do if they actually gave a shit.

Yeah, it looks better, but the difference is not day and night like some people make it out to be. The similarities are still extremely obvious, it's just that BOTW is more well crafted and executed than Arceus, but that's the difference between Nintendo and Gamefreak for you.

When the graphics aren't cutting edge anyway then little things make a huge difference.

Imagine BOTW with a little less grass, a lower draw distance and lower quality trees. It'd drag the entire thing down. Just the smooth running animation in botw does tonnes of good.

I guess all you guys care about is graphics. Literally.

And what exactly does this do better? I mean, I've had issues in general how games are improving graphics mostly and not focusing on AI, interaction, Physics, integration of music but what exactly does this do that is impressive? I mean, seriously? Is there anything impressive gameplay wise that I'm missing?

"All you guys care about graphics."

Yeah, no shit we care about them because that is what we're firstly experiencing when we're playing games. What an asinine statement.

As someone not familiarized with Pokémon games/franchise, why can’t Nintendo absorb GF entirely and take over Pokémon games development? And improve them from here on

As I understand, Pokémon Company is equally divided, owned by Nintendo, GF, and that one other company I forgot it’s name. On top of that Nintendo owns some part of GF already. And yet GF is the one doing most of Pokémon games development and butchering them in the process and potentially harming one of the most valuable franchise …..I mean most of GF development teams located in Nintendo owned buildings already, why can’t Nintendo just take over the whole company???

Did you just start playing games in the 360 era or something?

Not sure why you even have that avatar if the graphics in it are so terrible.

It’s definitely going in the right direction and at least a there’s only 1 version (I usually buy both anyway) and I’m liking the more Minster Hunter vibe this has, MHW and Rise have become 2 of my fav games this gen

Still my pokeMMO it is not,

Pokémon is the biggest selling brand in the world, legit, so Nintendo don’t need to touch it

If sales were to drop then yea of course they’d step in but they only own 2 thirds of Pokémon with Game Freak owning the other

as a matter of fact, people should look at the grass in BOTW, just the grass, see how natural it flows, how it reacts to motion, wind, fire, how it reacts to cutting and generally how it is used. at the same time look how the environments flow into each other. how it goes from grass to dirt and sand. then compare it to Pokemon Arceus. the difference is immense.

Yeah, people kind of forgetting who advanced BotW is. Lots of complex systems for lighting, cloud and sky changes, weather, etc.

I’d love to be wrong, but every time I see more footage of this it just looks….barren. Like they took the wrong lessons from the Wild Area, and just made it look prettier. I just get the feeling something is missing, and it seems like it’s coming out way too fast, much like every other Pokémon game, to hit some kind of deadline. Not touching it with a ten foot pole until I hear some very positive coverage. I’m sure it’s already been said to exhaustion, but Pokémon is the highest grossing media franchise of all time and they have unlimited resources at their disposal should they choose to use them, expectations should absolutely be sky high and it’s 100 percent their fault if it does not meet them.

No, I think the entire thing looks equally bad.

If this didn't have Pokemon as the name, it would be trashed by everyone.
Unfortunately that is the truth. I like Pokémon so I’ll probably get this, but I honestly think it looks extremely dated and wouldn’t even look twice at it if I didn’t know I like the gameplay hidden underneath that sad looking surface. It is what it is.

a lot of people think BOTW is empty as in "not a lot in there" and that there aren't many meaningful activities to do (whatever that is), and sure fair enough, but if there is one thing the game has going for then it is the vividness of the world. the world is alive. it moves and works on its own, especially when all the physic and weather systems come into play. all the little details pile up and create a fascinating open world to dive into and explore. it feels natural. not natural in the sense that it tries to be a photo realistic recreation of real life. natural in the sense of how the games world flows, how the environments are crafted and connected to each other, the game's logic and rules etc.

The bear of bad news
It's not even open world though. From my understanding it's supposed to work more or less like Monster Hunter, you go to a map and stay there for a while doing whatever until you go back to base, then go to a different map.
It doesn't matter.

Trust me, this D rate trash will outsell Elden Ring, Horizon FW2 and GOW Ragnorok
