Pro Evo Could Be Set For Another Rebrand as Konami Trademarks 'Pro Powerful Soccer'

Pro Evolution Soccer being rebranded by Konami to eFootball did not go smoothly and now it looks like a second rebranding may come soon.

The trademark in question was filed March 15 in Australia for Konami Digital Entertainment. The mark is for a unique spin on the Pro Evolution Soccer name, swapping "Evolution" for "Powerful" to create Pro Powerful Soccer. Given that it was a simple trademark filing, no further details were provided regarding Konami's intent with the branding.

What's rather funny about the Pro Powerful Soccer trademark is that there's already a game of that name in existence. Pro Powerful Soccer is a gacha game currently available on mobile devices from Hong Kong studio Boltrend Games. It has just 5,000 installs on Google Play, but its existence can't be denied. It may now end up in a battle with Konami for its international trademarks, however, if it wants to press the issue.

The title has nothing to do with Pro Evo, but it's obviously a spin-off of Konami's Powerful Pro Baseball franchise, which are baseball games with cutesy super-deformed characters. This is simply the soccer version of that.

The Pro Powerful Soccer that this article erroneously attributes to Boltrend is in fact Konami's own franchise that Boltrend simply localizes. It's absolutely hilarious to see that this writer actually makes up the idea of a trademark battle between Boltrend and Konami on this.

Always funny when people try to guesstimate trademarks when they don't even know what they're talking about.

Definitely popular. It's one of Konami's most popular franchises that they still publish, at least in Japan.

Looking deeper into this, this writer likely simply copied other articles on this that came out nearly a week ago, and came to the same ignorant conclusion, while adding the legal battle bullcrap.
