PS5’s Faster SSD Will Help Exclusives, but Multiplatform Games Will Likely Use Xbox Series X as Baseline – Beneath Dev

Did any multiplatform devs come out & say the faster SSD would allow better textures on PS5?

That's literally what faster IO does, last time I checked. You've been given a theoretical lesson that anyone who knows anything about how storage interacts with memory already knows.

Mind you, this is 100% theoretical and a giant oversimplification because there are big diminishing returns you get with "better textures" above a certain resolution, and modern compression methods make these returns even narrower on top of higher costs of making higher resolution textures.

When you ask some indie dev who is making a game that doesn't push the hardware at all about the limits of hardware instead of asking them about their game, a theoretical oversimplification with absolutely zero newsworthy value made of barebones basic concepts is all you'll get.

You say this when the post above you is saying cool PS5 is 3 seconds faster.

This stuff clearly needs to be discussed here

Discussing something influenced by tons of variables based on a single oversimplified variable that is actually common knowledge has zero value for anyone who isn't a console warrior.

Loading and unloading assets into and from memory faster plays only a small part in overall quality and has enormous diminishing returns depending on the rest of the hardware. The assets need to be displayed, not just streamed. An 8K texture doesn't magically appear on the screen just because you've loaded it into vram.

Exclusives can push hardware further than multiplats?

You're ignoring that he said you're not going to see much of a difference on multiplatform games so how is this about being a console warrior?

You're not going to see much of a difference anywhere, because of the diminishing returns I mentioned above, and the fact that I/O speed only plays a small part into overall quality besides pure loading times. Again, you can have 8k textures or above and load them into memory in a flash, but that's not gonna do you any good if the rest of the hardware can't handle displaying them with good frame times, without even going into whether the player will notice a difference at all unless they have their face smushed against the screen.

The fact that exclusives can be pushed a bit more on this or that part of the specific hardware that the other hardware doesn't have is knowledge so basic that only a console warrior would be interested in discussing it based on such a gross oversimplification.

Lol. Anyways, both consoles have their own advantages
-ps5’s ssd. But even ratchet doesn’t even use it like the devs stated lol. We will see down the road if games actually do.
-series x velocity architecture: mesh shaders and sampler feedback streaming and whatever else was with it. No games are using this yet either
