PS5 Finally Copies Popular Xbox Series X Feature

As Wario64 relays over on Twitter, the recent PS5 update quietly added new functionality involving game discs. More specifically, with the update installed, if a PS5 user buys a digital version of a game already installed via disc, you can use the same disc installation to play the digital copy without inserting the disc. This also applies to games downloaded via PlayStation Plus that meet this criteria. This may seem like a tiny quality-of-life feature, and it is, but it's one PlayStation fans have been asking for and are happy to see finally added.

"That's a huge quality-of-life change that I loved on Xbox," writes one PlayStation fan of the change. "Very glad to see it make the jump as the few times I ran into the issue, it was a bit annoying having to redownload everything on a slower connection."

"Wow that's an awesome change they kept quiet," adds another PlayStation fan. "Most of the big changes didn't really apply to me, so wasn't so interested. This was a big bother in the PS4 era for sure."

What about xbox copying ps5 feature - GAMES

yeah, that's a cool feature I guess? What's the point of it really ?
I, personally, am pretty stoked about it. Every once in a while, a PSN sale will be so absolutely bonkers, that I'll buy a digital version of a physical disc I already own for the sake of convenience. Aside from no longer having to redownload the game, which is annoying, I also get to save some rewrite cycles on my SSD as well. It's not a huge thing, but it's a nice addition.

So you can continue playing ALREADY INSTALLED game without the disc ?
I think I am starting to get it. christ. How was that now wotking like that previously, The disc and download game was always the same anyway

Can xbox copy the launch parameters that PS5 even if devs don't or can't support it fully?

Feels like an easy win but I don't know what it would fuck up.

I mean....only if you buy a digital copy. If you own just the disc you still need the disc. So, nothing really to see here.

Yes FINALLY PS5 now recognize Physical/Digital of EXACTLY THE SAME GAME as the same game. It took them long to this breakthrough discovery but i’m glad we are here. Tested it myself.

Probably I'm just too stupid to understand this, maybe too much porno in my diet, but what's the point to buy the disk and then the digital version?
For xbox, it would be for quick resume and potentially playanywhere (will be dependent on the game).

For PS5, it's just so you don't have to get up and change the disc.

Yeah this. Currently you can only suspend one game on PS5. Atleast 3 would be nice. I didn't think it would be a feature i use but I have 5 games on quick resume on my xbox.

Quick resume isn’t reliable enough for me. So many times I try to resume and it crashes. Just ended up turning it off

Really useful because I bought BF2042 a few months back before it came to PSPlus and was able to sell it on for the same price a few weeks ago, go onto the store, grab a license for a digital copy and then just keep playing as normal. Saves me having to re-download games again.

When will they copy the best feature from Xbox though? Specifically the one where you can preload games you haven’t preordered or bought physically so that when it turns up, you can just play it. This is really handy when I’m at work or just elsewhere and my Xbox is in sleep mode.

Quick resume is shit on everything other than Switch. It is almost instant as well. Such a great feature that works really well in SP games on the platform.

Not understanding this wording.

If I buy a Digital copy I can play it anyway without a disc.

1. Are they saying if I buy a disc game and install it I can play it without the disc inserted? (Would make sense)

2. If I own a digital copy and a disc copy of the same game I no longer need the disc. (Would not make sense)

How can something that only affect people who buy games they already have on a console that doesn't sale many physical copies of games be popular?

It does have quick resume. I use it all the time. The ps4 had it too. You turn off the system and its back to the game, just like switch. You hit the home button and go to the store or something else, you go back to game its right where you left off.
Is there some other "quick resume", you are referring to?

For those who doesn't know, Playstation has a fuckery over Digital and Physical copies of the same game, even from PS+ games, as they are consired different SKUs, my friend once in a while tells me he had issues. That means if you buy a digital copy of a game that was installed from the physical media, it will require its download anyways to play it, and vice versa, it wasn't seamless as Xbox does.

That's stand by memory refresh, you get that too on (at least on Xbox) consoles. Quick Resume is pauses vm containers, again nothing spectacular, PCs have that for decades in business environment. This feature in its same form isn't possible on PS5, because on PS5 there are not using virtualization. Most often than not, thankfully...

All Sony consoles do, at least from PS3 up. Virtualization is a form of security.
