Report: Sandra Bullock to Lead All-Female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Reboot; Gary Ross to Direct

According to a new report, Bullock will lead an all-female Ocean’s Eleven film, with Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) directing. Clooney, for his part, doesn’t seem to mind — he’s helping produce it. Read about the female Oceans Eleven movie after the jump.

ThePlaylist broke news of the female Oceans Eleven movie. They’ve got a generally good track record, and aren’t given to spreading baseless rumors, so we consider them to be pretty trustworthy. That said, no official announcement has been made from any of the involved parties as of yet.

According to their sources, Clooney, Steven Soderbergh, and Jerry Weintraub got the ball rolling on the female Ocean’s Eleven project last year. It hit a speed bump when Weintraub — who produced the Soderbergh-directed 2001 film — passed away, but now it’s back on track with Olivia Milch (Queen & Country, Little Women) is writing the screenplay.

No plot details have been revealed, and it’s not yet clear whether the new Ocean’s Eleven will be a remake, reboot, sequel, prequel, spinoff, reimagining, retelling, or whatever new method Hollywood has come up with to extend a dead franchise. The site’s sources say, however, that there’s a chance Clooney could cameo as Danny Ocean.

A female-led Ocean’s Eleven is very much keeping in line with current trends. The Ghostbusters franchise was in limbo until Paul Feig pitched his female-centric reboot, and recently we heard Road House was getting remade with Ronda Rousey as the new Patrick Swayze. We’ve also seen some smaller roles get gender-swapped lately, like when Tilda Swinton signed on to play the Ancient One in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

For the record I think this sounds great.

I think that women can be friends with each other, but I think it can be tricky sometimes when you try and force women to hang out with each other. You could never put together a heist of women. Like 'Ocean's 11' with women wouldn't work 'cause two would keep breaking off to talk sh*t about the other nine.
Instantly popped into my mind

Cool idea but man what a huuuuge director downgrade

Will also be a cast downgrade too unless they throw in cate Blanchett and Emily Blunt or something

Seems insulting that all they can come up with for all women cast movies is remakes of male cast movies. Why not stretch those wings and create some new stuff

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
This does sorta makes more sense. Oftentimes with heists, woman are used to case the place because there is a lower level of suspicion on them. Usually there is some male involvement beyond that point, but I'm down with them giving this a try.

I partly agree, but it is helpful for all-women vehicle films to have a big name attached. Maybe in 10 years we will start to see the fruits of this push in the form of a greater number of new IPs that star women.

This has to be one of the most perplexing recent trends, let alone the idea that they're rebooting a franchise that is all of 14 years old, with less than 8 years since the last entry.

"It's X, but with all women!" seems like ideas for a college play, not multimillion dollar film decisions.

Don't really care about the movie, but I can't wait to see dumbfuck Gamergaters get mad about like they did with Ghostbusters.

If it's a heist movie, I'm in. If it involves casinos. I'm doubly in. If it's as stylish as fun as Ocean's Eleven, day one.

Yeah you are right bout that and as you say hopefully as time goes by we start to see new efforts

You would probably have to let women in on writing and directing. Lol. Just think of it. As Matt Damon said, we'll just add diversity in casting.

The type of ensemble in Ocean's Eleven features a lot of characters that you don't really see women do, will be interesting to see what kind of characters they include.

Which actresses has the smarmy charisma of Clooney and Pitt?

I'm off a few minds on this. I like heist movies, Bullock could certainly lead one, and an all female crew is a fine idea. On the other hand, I hope they don't feel like they have to remake with similar plot details. Ocean's Eleven was already a remake, Thirteen had almost the same plot, and they're both fairly recent, so let's come up with something new for them to do.

Also, I don't mind Gary Ross, but part of the charm of the Soderbergh versions was seeing a great director just have fun. Ross isn't anywhere near that level.

Yeah it's already failed to mirror the God-tier soderbergh cast if they don't cast Angelina Jolie

Like who's gonna be bullock's partner? Mccarthy? Lolno fuck that.

I'm interested. Be nice to take a different take on the franchise. I hope it's not a retelling of the 1st movie. Make it it's own thing. Either a spin-off, sequel or whatever.
