This man does his research.
haha what a fantastic new outlet for hollywood to pump out unoriginal films easily. just take a bunch of old ideas except now have them be all women. wow such inspiring feminism. buzzfeed: here's thirty of the most outraged sexist responses to the new ocean's eleven. omg how awful. interview: you are all so brave and modern for making this film and standing against prejudice, how can u be so brave? omg must see.

how about you hire way way way more women directors and let their original voices be heard

So this.

Miss Male Character movie as a trope is dumb. Why not take the same cast and put them into a new story? You know, one where the audience might get invested in the plot and not just compare/contrast the differences between the old versions.

Hell, they could probably even be the same script, but take off the Ocean's Eleven name. I mean, it's not like that franchise is the only time we've seen heists.

So is this what people wanted when they asked for better gender representation in Hollywood? All female remakes of older movies that had mostly male casts?

Im not a woman, but this seems like some hardcore pandering to me. Why not just create NEW movies with more/better female characters?

EDIT: Empty hit the nail on the head.

Wanting diverse representation is a separate thing from "stop remakes and reboots!". It is what Hollywood is right now. They cannibalized the mid-range budget films and heavily rely on existing properties and formulas that they can point to and say " hey that worked"! It is how it is and that's not changing for some time. I'd love original stories from original minority voices but that ain't happening in Hollywood. So in the meantime, let's allow diversity without moaning about it, because you're deluded if you think this is any less cynically-driven than superhero phase 6 movie #14 or another milking of your favorite piece of nostalgia. At least there's something of a positive gain as opposed to still water.

It's a shame on their choice of director though...

Of all the movies they could have chosen to be a an all-female reboot, they chose Ocean 11?

Bloody hell, Hollywood is creatively bankrupt indeed!

I wan a Beverly Hills Cop All-Female version you idiots.

This would probably have Melissa McCarthy in it too.

One the one hand, I'm not a big fan of Sandra Bullock, nor am I a big fan of Hollywood endlessly remaking movies, producing third generation garbage like a smeared mimeograph. Hell, I was fine with the original Ocean's 11, before they felt the need to update it with today's band of pretty boys.

On the other hand, it's entertaining watching people get worked up about it. I look forward to the inevitable genderswap Fight Club remake.

Could anyone recommend me some really good heist films? I absolutely love a good heist. I've seen the Oceans series, and that one with Ben Affleck (The Town?), The Italian Job, but can't think of many others.

I dunno...Ocean's had that ratpack thing going pretty good. The code of gentleman's agreement was pretty well done in 13. Danny Ocean saying to Willy Bank "You shook Sinatra's hand. You should know better." Line packed so much punch. I just dont see that happening with Sandy and her group...sorry.

12 was a total misfire though. Too much overindulgence in gentlemen porn.

Inside Man, Denzel and Clive Owen
The Score, DeNiro and Edward Norton
Usual Suspects, Spacey, Gabirel Byrne
Confidence, Edward Burns, Dustin Hoffman

Michael Mann's Thief and Heat are absolutely essential neo noir. Get them on blu ray. Dude captures night like no other.

We should commend diversity in film-making even if those films are flawed in other ways (e.g. are reboots).

It would be lovely if they could come up with original ideas but I'm still excited about movies with all-female casts in whatever form.

Kinda fun idea but then it's also just scraps from the table that ends up highlighting Hollywood's borked gender policies. "Hey, women can star in awesome non romcom movies too, as long as dudes did it first".

among the others mentioned, if you're into French noir movies, Rififi is not to be missed

I'm surprised people are getting worked up over something that was already a reboot.

My only issue is Sandra Bullock is no Sinatra/Clooney. Charlize Theron, Catherine Zeta Jones, or Angela Bassett could pull off the feel I'm looking for.

Please...please...enough reboots and sequels...PLEASE.

Where is the next Se7en or Usual Suspects? Why is Nolan the only guy making movies that go in a different direction that also gross a lot?

I don't care if it's all female, it doesn't change the fact that it's the 1000th reboot in about a decade

A remake of a remake that I didn't care that much about. Eh. I'm fine not watching this but great news for women apparently.

Really shows Hollywood cares by not having enough confidence to make a completely new movie but instead having to use old branding. Lol. Typical white old Hollywood.

Now this would be so great, freaking spot on with some of those. Id replace rousey with Kaitlin Olson though, rousey has no Humor or emotion at all

Gary Ross can not assemble a cast like this tho. I wish Soderbergh made this so he could actually pull some of these people in :(

If there's one consistent thing about Hollywood is that they always follow the money.

There will be one major actress from China in a token role.

Count on it.

Just going over 2015, did you watch:

Inherent Vice
Predestination
The Duke of Burgundy
R100
Son of a Gun
The Loft
Jupiter Ascending
Kingsman (which is a really James Bond riff)
Focus
Chappie
Danny Collins
The Gunman
Spring
Serena
Woman in Gold
Lost River
Age of Adaline

That's just up until May 2015 and I skipped a bunch of films.

Hollywood does make original movies, people don't watch them. They make sequels and reboots because that's what people watch. If you didn't watch any of those films above, you're part of the problem. Did you watch Bridge of Spies by Steven Spielberg? No? Burnt, Our Brand is Crisis, The Last Witch Hunter, and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse? Those are original films that just came out and probably aren't on your radar. You know what you probably will see? Spectre 007.

The "next Se7en or Usual Suspects" doesn't just pop freaking fully-formed from a studio, all perfect and wonderful. Filmmaking is hard. No one knows what's going to be good, and yet they try. Hollywood makes original films (that you don't watch). Excuse them if their big budgets go to what they believe to be less risky projects.

Can't they just make a new casino heist movie with an all female cast instead of a reboot?

Does it matter either way, other than the fact that the name is the same?

a female fight club movie would be awesome though
