Returnal Delayed to April 30th

1 week before RE: 8 and 3 weeks before Deathloop.

And it will be the only game out the 3 that is prices at $70

Also tells me Ratchet and Clank isn’t coming until June or July
Honestly I will be surprised if Deathloop does well in sales. Arkane had a reasonable success with Dishonored 1, but Dishonored 2 and Prey were commercial failures.

Personally I loved Dishonored and liked Prey, but this game isn't even on my radar. The premise of time-limited cycles and going back again and again after death makes it sound more like a roguelike game which is a big turn off for me.

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Only way we get change is by making our voices heard, look how quickly the Gold price increase was reversed, or loot boxes out of Battlefront etc.

I think it hurts the developers more. The extra profit margin is very unlikely to offset the tepid day 1 sales that are so important (and go hand in hand with the brunt of the marketing)

If it dominates the conversation just like other controversies have (I.e Cyberpunk and bugs) it's good as shitty business practices should be highlighted IMO 😊

That's the price covered into dollars from most territories for the standard SKU. Yes Americans have to pay sales tax on top but its marginal.

There's already signs this new price structure won't take around the world. Look at Destruction all Stars for an early indicator. Games are essentially been sent out to die.
See, why not write something like this as your first post instead of the hyperbole you send out before.

Of course the increase in price for these games hurt my wallet, but if the game is good i gladly pay it.

We haven't seen a lot of Returnal by now to judge if it is worth the price so i think we should wait and see.

So america is "most of the world" to you?

Wow...

You don't think cost of product is relevant? Especially a new outrageous one at that, asking most of the world to pay around $95. It's a price point that's almost certainly going to hinder sales. Demon Souls had a strong fanbase to fall back on and the excitement of a new console launch, this has neither.
And DS still bombed.

FUCK !!

I want nextgame games for my PS5 and a new Housemarque game.

Well delay is always better than broken game.
Look at Cyberpunk, you can have both!

I haven't got a PS5 yet, sadly. So I don't mind this delay on a personal level, hopefully the game will be better off for it. It does suck for those people that have a PS5 though, it was one of the bigger games coming out for it. At least it is only a month and a bit delay at the moment.

What a crock of shit, cant stand it when release dates are announced when they arent 100 percent sure they can hit it. Like whats the point of giving a date until your like a month out anymore. I dont take any games first announced release date at face value anymore unless its madden, fifa, or cod.

Good question. I really thought we'd get Ratchet in the first quarter. Definitely not appearing to be the case.

I feel like the game is done, but they are holding it. They don't need to boost PS5 sales yet, as demand still beats out supply.

thats probably accurate. Ratchet is probably finished, sony is probably sitting on it until they can spot a strategic hole in their calender, like nintendo does. Im willing the bet this delay pushed that game to either late summer or early fall now. Their first party ps5 titles are a premium for them right now, timing is everything. I bet they dont want to push a ton of stuff out in the first half of the year only to be left with little to nothing because of delays come the second half

No need to be so confrontational. I don't always have to point out why the new massive price increase is bad in every thread mealy lament that it exists both on behalf of myself and the developers who no doubt put their heart and soul into the games they make.

What you and me might pay as enthusiasts is almost beside the point we have to consider the mass market. Asking them to pay the equivalent of $95 for an unknown IP is a serious, serious ask. As I stated it's going to be incredibly hard to justify the extra margin at the expense of so many sales. The publisher/Sony /developer is setting themselves up for a uphill battle day 1 and frankly it's sad to see as the Studio does seem like a great team.

It also annoys me they obfuscate this issue but making the American markets games cheaper than the rest of the world, dividing us. But all I'd say is in the words of the Manic Street Preachers "If you tolerate this then you games will be next, will be next (will be next)". 😂

I just canceled my preorder. Initially it looked interesting and beautiful, but the latest gameplay videos look awful. It's like Resogun merged with Gears of War with underwhelming graphics. I have a gut feeling this game will bomb hard.
Mark my words....

This might be the most obvious bomba since Sunset Overdrive. Sorry Housemarque :messenger_pensive:

If you really find this annoying then I think this year might be a rough one for ya. I just have a feeling that most of the major releases this year are going to get at least one delay.

Out of all the tentpole, AAA games scheduled for 2021, the only one I have confidence in is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and this is only because Insomniac are fucking wizards. I wouldn't be surprised at all if HFW, Ragnarok, and Halo Infinite get moved to 2022.

We'll see, but just sayin', probably get used to the delays this year.

got a feeling you are 100% correct. Maybe Halo (if doesn’t get another delay) and Ratchet this fall....

depressing

Massive?

Games have been $59.99 since the 360 released in 2005. That equates to $79.50 today accounting for inflation.

So, even at $69.99, games are cheaper than they were then.

In the UK it's the eqivilant of $95 for standard SKU's of Sony published games. The 4th price rise since the PS4 launch in 2013. Australia and Brazil amongst many other countries are getting bent over to the detriment of nearly everyone.

Sounds like an issue with your economy. Are Xbox and Nintendo games cheaper?

im not opposed to waiting, i just wish release dates were announced closer to launch when they are 100 percent sure they can hit it. Paper mario last year was ideal. What i cant stand is the release date shuffle we all have to go through with like almost every major game. Games like cyberpunk, for instance, should have never announced a date until they were positive the game was ready to ship. They could have avoided shipping a pos product, and they also could have avoided the good will they lost after their third delay in a row.

i also cant stand that most of what we have to look forward to in the first half of this year are ports, and not a ton of next gen games

Yep it's only a handful of PS5 games that are £10 over the highest normal UK price for a standard SKU. So Demon Souls, Godfall, this etc.

It's not just the UK, from what I've heard. 😊

What? Miles Morales should not be a full priced game. Are you sure?

And Astro's Playroom? What are you talking about?

It is just so exhausting with all your exaggerations.

Why is the price "ridiculous" or "outrageous"?

Sure it is high. Or higher than last generation. But compared to what i have to pay for food or other daily things i say it is still fair.

"Pure greed."? What?

Maybe they are just confident in selling their quality product for an realistic price to make a living.
Sony was not confident to sell you Destruction All Stars and then put it on PS Plus.
Pleas don't compare these two.

"Games are essentially been sent out to die."?

What are you talking about?! Why are all games send out to die?
If that is the case then we would not write about Sony exclusive games on a videogame forum.

Please stop spreading false information to others by saying all of use have to pay 95$ for this game.

Again. America is NOT "most of the world". That is a misconception.

It's one third of my weekly wage. For a computer game standard SKU to cost that much is IMO. Obviously its subjective but I bet sales will soon back up my opinion.

Sent out to die I.e Concrete Genie where not much thought into the practical reality of selling a game is given whether thats selling price, marketing support or whatever.

I've never said America is most of the world I'm not sure why you think I'm saying that? When I say rest of the world I mean outside of America.

Can we just....talk about the only thing matter?

The game itself?

How the character look is up to what the developer want its their freedom man

But as a game developer you have a choice to make the hottest ever female as a lead or at least something thats not very ugly. Do they really think most players can't wait to play as an ugly hag instead of looking at attractive character on screen? Very confusing choice there.

Does ugly character like Trevor really stops you from playing GTA V?

Thats a very weird way for you to decide how a game is good or bad ( basing it on how the character looks)

i really hope Kena is a AAA indie with 25 hours of content at the minimum to keep me till then. Or they release nexgen patches for more AAA ps4 games 🥺.
AAA indie? that's overstretching the category.... an indie game by definition can't be AAA. Triple A means large budget by necessity. Of course, an indie game can be top quality, a game like Ori, or Hellblade for example, but they don't fall under the AAA label by any stretch.

Now I’m willing to give it a chance, old release date was too close to Monster Hunter Rise.

Sorry i misunderstood you in terms of the american relation. I edited the post. My bad.

Considering your income it seems to be expensive to you. That is ok. And yes, subjective.

But i can still not see any greed. People will decide if the overall pricing is fair or not very soon, thats right.

Marketing is a complex matter and not every game gets the attention it deserves. That does not mean every game is essentially send out to die.

I think you don't understand NeoGAF's Game rankings.

This is in order (best to worst):

AAA Sony first party
AAA Sony Indie game
AAA games exclusive to Playstation
Indie games exclusive to Playstation
Nintendo games
Mobile Games
$1 GamePass games (includes AAA MS first party)

I haven't played the game yet. Just saying that repulsive looking female lead choice is baffling to me. I bet game would sell more if the main prot wasn't so not so nice looking.

Trevor is the man! The main reason Trevor char existed in the first place was to bring something crazy and different from other two characters to the game. That was his 'charm' and ugly looking only helped in that case.

I just think even the most popular game with the best marketing support will not reach its potential at this higher price point. I just can't see the extra margin justifying the loss of more casual people (where the key period to sell to them is in the initial weeks when marketing/exposure is at its highest). I guess we will be able to read into the trends/affects more as time goes on and we get more case studies.

Based from what it look, the protag seems to be some kind of space explorer or NASA astrnots

Most female working on that field usually isnt the prettiest looking

They prob just want to create something more grounded on this occasion

As I said in a different OT, Astronauts are also nerds and nerds aren't good looking or sexy.
Video gamers don't deserve to stare mega babes and their asses.

Go watch porn and then play Returnal. Then your hormons are leveled down and you can actually concentrate on playing the game.

Edit. Oh and don't forget to masturbate and preferably ejaculate while looking at porn.

Hol up what?
RE8 isnt 70 bucks?

Re8 looks like a game that could justify its pricepoint out of these 3.
Why is this title 70 bucks?

I think new Sony games are 70 bucks, which sucks for us on the other side of the ocean, we have to pay 80 euro (which already includes 20% in taxes, but still).

I almost never buy games new on release, so this won't affect me, I can wait.

Is “I just canceled my preorder” a meme or do people really get so excited about a game that they preorder months in advance and are ready to press the cancel button the exact moment their is any length of a delay?
