RTX 3060 8GB - NVidia screws consumers, again

How is this not considered a form of false advertising? It’s clearly a different product marketed as being the same thing.

Because it says 8GB and 12GB on the respective boxes.
But yes, it's still scummy to have so different products with the same base name.
They could have used 3050 Ti. Or even 3060 LE. As not to confuse consumers.

You can have less memory and the same or more memory bandwidth, this is no excuse.

That's the nature of the demand for their stuff. They have like 80% marketshare so theyy can do what they want. And no it's not amd's job to make nvidia lower their prices. If anything nvidia brings amd prices up since amd has to give you better prices to even hold their sliver of the pie and still make a (likely) handsome margin on the 7900.

People don't even know the ryzen company make gpu's lol. They can't do anything to force nvidia's pricing. Customers can, in theory. In reality seems like they can't tho. edit: actually, the recent alleged bad 4080 sales show that maybe consumers can do it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Wow, this sounds like the kind of thing that leads to class action lawsuits..

The RTX 3060 has a 192 bit bus. That means 6 memory channels.
So they can either have 6 or 12GB, depending on the chip density.

There are multiple ways to achieve 3060 class of performance on 8gb without even using the existing 3060 chip.

As a 3050 owner, this obviously should have been their 3050ti and priced a good 20% lower at least. Just like the 3050 should be priced at actual MSRP and not the +$50 to +$100 that it's actually been selling for.

Seriously it's like the last couple years of shitty availability have conditioned the market to fuck us even when the cards are easily available now.
gotta stop buying, only solution

They can only use 128 bits bus, which is what they did. Or use a 256 bit bus, which would be a bit too much for such a weak GPU.

This is a scam and nvidia is shady as fuck. They need to get sued for this.

This is not an 8 gb vs 12 VRAM only, this is misleading as it assumes it’s giving you the option to pick 8 gb if you don’t need 12. But the fact there is big as 20% performance difference, that’s just a lie .
I hope they get sued and lose lots of money.

Someone needs to put this shitty company and its CEO in their place. ….

Lol kidding. However,

why Apple, sell many variants of their MacBook ? Different variants and different SKUs under the same exact name? Nvidia can do the same but it has have the specs listed on the box in terms of specs. If they don’t then they are screwed in a big lawsuit

eh, still the difference in ram is not the only difference, if you see a box of cereals, one chocolate flavor and another cinnamon flavor, you would not expect the cinnamon one actually being cinnamon flavor sawdust.

sure, names of graphic cards are arbitrary, but there might be ground for a lawsuit

of course given corporate america, they will side with nvidia..maybe the UEW could do something if someone points them to it
