Saudi Arabia has bought a $1 billion chunk of Capcom and Nexon

Bloomberg reports that the nation’s Public Investment Fund has been used to invest stakes of more than 5% in both Capcom and Nexon.

Although it’s not clear how much of the fund has been allocated to each investment, the report claims that the investments in Capcom and Nexon combined come to more than $1 billion.

This is the latest in a series of investments in video game and esports companies that Saudi Arabia has been making in recent years.

In December 2020 the fund acquired over $3 billion worth of stock in Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts and Take-Two.

The bear of bad news
"In December 2020 the fund acquired over $3 billion worth of stock in Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts and Take-Two.

It’s set to receive a profit on part of that investment if Microsoft‘s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is successfully completed, as the deal will see all shares bought out for $95, whereas thoughout December 2020 the price ranged from $79-91 per share."

Looks like they might trying to profit off of someone else taking Capcom over.

Buy Take Two. This stock will explode once GTA 6 and GTA Mobile by Zynga is out. It’s inevitable. TTWO is a hundred Billion dollar company l.

All women's skirts in SF6 to become ankle length.

Yeah people were saying same about KOF when Arabian bought SNK, even myself suspected this may happen, but it ended being the girls are sexier than ever in kof15.

Guess most puritains extremists seems to be more in America than in the Arab countries.

What now ? Saudi Arabia bought SNK ? This can’t be right .

I mean why US can’t buy Japanese video game company and Japan won’t sell etc then all sudden ksa buys SNK. Something is not right lol

I think they bought 33% with the intent to buy more. Can't find an indication that they have the controlling stake in SNK now

Foreign investment is definitely allowed. Foreign takeovers might be reviewed. Certain big Japanese companies are off limits for takeover. We don't really know what that list of companies is thougb

I'm not too familiar with the details here, so I'm walking on thin ice. But afaik Arabian investors are very hands off and relaxed about this stuff. This is a clever move. I wouldn't expect anything of the kind we see constantly with Chinese companies trying to enforce CCCP censorship onto foreign entities.

Edit: How much of total Capcom is this, anyway? Lol I don't know shit.

If Sharp could be bought I’d guess a company like Capcom could easily be bought, but who knows.

Sharp was in massive decline, that acquisition most likely saved them from complete bankruptcy. I dont think Japan's regulations are so brutal to prevent that

Are they the ones trying to move away from their reliance on oil? If so it makes sense I guess. Although given their resources I'd expect them to move faster and acquire more.

Yup. Sounds like they are buying stock from companies they expect to sell in the future.

Smart investment. Jimbo, buy Capcom (and maybe Nexon) before it's too late! Time is up!

If had more money than I could spend right now - I'd do the same. 7% inflation in the UK, I don't how the situation is in other countries, but it's in the times. Your cash is burning :messenger_weary:
