Sega has registered a trademark for the term “Sega NFT” in Japan.

The new trademark filing published today by the Japan Patent Office was applied for in late December 2021 and includes the Sega NFT logo above. Sega indicated last year that it intended to begin selling NFTs via a Japanese social media post. However, last week its CEO Haruki Satomi appeared to have cooled on the idea somewhat, acknowledging the current negativity around the NFT landscape.

For some reason I didn't even think about Sonic.

Now it all makes sense. Sega just needs to sell Sonic Hentai NFT's and they'll be overtaking Apple in the trillionare club in a matter of days.

Sonic is basically the farming mascot of them for targeting kids, so it was the first on to comes in mind when implement putrit ideas like that.

In the investment community, NFTs are seen as idiot tax. They're for those nincompoops who just really want to get rid of their money.

Given this scam didn't work on the investor community, somebody thought, I know let's try it out on gamers and get a few of those schmucks to part with their hard-earned cash.

Don't be deceived, folks. 99% of you will not make any money on NFTs. You're better off in a casino. At least you'll have some fun there.

Fantastic timing, after saying that they would probably keep some distance with NFTs. Typical SEGA communication.

Looks like RIP AAA gaming.

Good thing indies are killing it.
Life finds a way. It will all correct itself out. AAA games are dying (NFT's, reliance on sequels, remasters, ports....., focus on online) and indies and smaller studios will rise out of the AAA ashes and start the industry on a new path with new IP's and a focus on, you know, gaming?!

Where is that Backlog/No New Games 2022 thread. This may take me out of buying new games in the foreseeable future.

Stop spreading misinformation, They said they cancelled their plans for NFT's after fan backlash, the trademark was done before the cancellation and the alledged realease date was a couple days ago. so yes, you can still support SEGA if you want to. and if anything they gained my respect for not going that route.
