SEGA is proving to be the most incompetent publisher out there.

Was watching this documentary on Youtube and how SEGA fucked up the development of Sonic Boom.

It wasn't BigRedButton's fault at all. SEGA interfered too much and ruined the potential that is Sonic Boom.
That franchise and studio does not deserve the hate, if anything it should be directed to SEGA.

Remember they are the company that keeps on fucking rehashing the same SEGA Genesis game because they cannot deliver anything remotely new and innovative.
Just look at how they promoted Sonic Origins.
1DC1eV5.png

They used the same fucking confusing chart that Ubisoft does with their preorders and complicates things.

Now SEGA is peddling this piece of shit called Sonic Frontiers. It's just another open world game with nothing to do in it contrast to Elden Ring.

Honestly, the Sonic franchise is being held back because of SEGA, they are making all the wrong fucking moves.

They are worse than GameFreak when they made Sword and Shield.
The only reason Sonic the Hedgehog is successful is because of the western market, they know what to do with the franchise, hence we got the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.
The fans know the best direction for the franchise than the publisher does.

Sonic Boom was on to something, a game where you can play as other characters besides Sonic.
SEGA is pretty much always having the player ALWAYS play as Sonic and it is fatiguing.

This is some weird agenda against sonic, disguised under a sega thread.

Sonic Frontiers from the latest switch trailer looked pretty cool.

& The majority off previews from people who have actually played it, seem to be fairly positive.

This hate boner for sonic on here recently is a little strange, let see how the game actually turns out first.

Sega struggled for more years than they succeeded, especially in the hard ware sector. Sega has been a non player for more years than they were a player.
So none of this is surprising, out of touch with gamers and what made them legends to begin with. I think most people was Sega from the early 90's or Dream cast era back.

The real Sega has been dead for a long time now. They are, as the saying goes, a shell of their former selves. This goes deeper than Sonic Team or the Sonic games. Watch these entertaining videos from CCP to get an idea of what Sega is today:

No.

Yeah they get Sonic wrong and Sonic Team is a joke, but Yakuza team, Total War, Atlus make great games unlike EA/Ubi and few more publishers.

And worse than gamefreak?
Gamefreak is one of the most richest companies and makes so much money from the number 1 franchise in the world.
Yet they produce shitty amateur stuff. And use 3DS animations when they earn probably billions.

Gamefreak is up their with EA and the laziest team yet earns the most money ( Pokemom / Fifa ). Greedy guts they are

I dont really like the look of it but there is a special hate for Sonic on these forums lol.
Theres a thread once in awhile with hate for Sonic

I advertised for Google Stadia
Sega is doing well with other franchises but Sonic...

Look at Sonic All Star Racing Transformed, it was great with Sega characters...and then Takashi Iizuka decided to remove them for Team Sonic Racing.

Takashi Iizuka must retire.
Yuji Naka left Sega and that's great.(go producing Balan Wondershit elsewhere, pawl).

There are a few old clowns at Sonic Team who should retire ASAP 🥳.

Bring back "Sega" all stars racing, fuckers 🤪

I love Sega but most of the people that have run the different variations of the company over the decades have always been incompetent.

Nobody will argue that Sega are kicking goals with Sonic, but as a publisher more broadly they're far from "the most incompetent".

Huh? Sonic was always bad so I think they've handled that as well as they could but as a publisher they are doing fine last time I checked. They put out some really quality games under their umbrella.

At least, let's wait for the game to release and actually play it.

Elden Ring does not contrast with other open-worlds by the way. It is just as huge, bloated, repetitive and boring.

Game got off to a terrible start, being an IGN exclusive (never goes down well) and showing underwhelming, early version footage.

The recent Switch trailer should have been our first good look at the game and the lack of enthusiasm wouldn't be so prevalent if it had.

I fully agree.
Ign first never tends to show games off well though.

& The switch footage (despite worst visuals) is the best gameplay we've had for the game, that actually shows us more of what to expect.

Lol, imagine calling the company that publishes Persona (and SMT in general), Yakuza, Total War and freaking Football Manager incompetent? I know this forum has a weird hate boner for Sonic... But try to stay in reality, inventing your own is not healthy.

I'm just gonna say Frontiers does look worrying. The gameplay & combat looks really bland, the "open zone" as they are calling it looks empty, the Cyberspace levels are apparently approx 2 minutes long per level (according to the latest IGN trickle video).

Spider-Man Reaction GIF

The two minute levels were the first 4 according to him and they all have a multi goal approach, so those levels will take at least 10 minutes each... Or more if the subsequent goals are more time consuming.

And this direction is? They tried many things: 2D, 3D, open world... and people seems to hate everything.

I'm just not sure it would be possible to create a all-new Sonic that is good today.

Only one of those is an actual Sega franchise, the rest are just buy-ins and don't count.

Sega the developer and Sega the publisher are two different entities when it comes to the name on the box.

How hard is it to make something as great as Rayman Legends?

We should be asking Ubisoft this... they haven't managed to do it in more than a decade

The thread clearly says publisher tho?

And Atlus and any other subsidiaries bought by sega are now effectively part of Sega as both a developer and a publisher... Or would you say the Uncharted games were not developed by Sony due to them buying Naughty Dog at some point?

It's gonna turn out to be crap, guaranteed.

SEGA robbed the fans of a potential amazing Sonic Boom game that could have had 4 player co-op on the PS3 and Xbox 360. There could have been such amazing world-building as seen in the above documentary.
But SEGA's control really fucked it up. We could have been playing Tails, Knuckles, and Amy in a 4 player co-op game.
There has been none to this date a fun co-op online Sonic game. It's always the tried and true, same old peddled mediocre game Sonic game SEGA has always been delivering and when BigRedButton tried to do something new, they weren't given a chance because of Japanese backwards thinking.
They have such tunnel vision with the franchise. Nothing from Sonic franchise felt innovative. And when it did it was cut down.
People online seem to be trashing at Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, but have they seen the gameplay, it looks amazing!

This game is the equivalent of "The Amazing Spider-Man movies. It was overlooked and when No Way Home came back, people demanded an Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Sonic Boom in couple years will be fan demanded in the future because we're going to see more crap mediocre Sonic games from SEGA without any form of innovation and people will come back to this franchise.

The Sonic Boom TV series was even left to die and we never got a Season 3. The series show time was shafted to some shitty air run slot.
It's really sad to see the Sonic Boom franchise go this way.

I really enjoyed Sonic Team Racing, the same developers who helped worked on the Forza series and the Team mechanic is amazing. However the online multiplayer is dead.
No multiplayer cross-over, no further support.
SEGA left this game to die and instead peddle the same SEGA Genesis game.

Sonic the Hedgehog was my first video game and the SEGA Genesis was my first video game console, but I'm fatigued and tired of 2D Sonic Sidescroller and want a third person action-adventure co-op adventure Sonic game.
SEGA denied me of that and because of that SEGA...

Just posed this in another tread. Fans get Sonic's movement better than Sega at this point. Crazy that this got official licensing from Sega, then they show off such stiff movement in their AAA game Frontiers. Still hopeful that mods can do what Sonic Team don't.

The thing is it was said that David Rosen (I think I spelt his name right) one of the original founders of Service Games always thought that they should have been game-publishers from the beginning, and not get into gaming hardware at all....if that was the case would we be seeing a stronger Sega that its modern day iteration currently? Where money wasn't burned away on Project Sega CD/32X and Saturn? The damage those 3 did to Sega meant they had no room for error by the time their swan-song of a console came out....The Dreamcast..

This narrative that Sega sucks won't die until Sega makes a good Sonic game. Many people associate the quality of Sega with how well Sonic is doing because its the biggest franchise

Sega doesn't have any bad development teams IMO. All of their teams except Sonic team consistently pump out games that rate 8 and above.

Sonic Team- Mid to above average(Sonic hasn't been great but Valkyria Chronicles and Puyo Puyo Tetris and Sakura Wars are good)
RGG studios- Great. Yakuza And Lost Judgment
AM2- Great. Hatsune Miku and VF5 Remake
Atlus- Great. Persona, SMT, Ethan Odyssey, Catherine
Creative Assembly- Great. Total War, Aliens Isolation, Halo Wars 2
Two Point Games- Great. Two Point Hospital
Sports Interactive- Great. Football Manager
Amplitude Studios- Great. Humankind, Endless series
Relic- Great. Age of Empires 4, Company of Heroes
R&D Online- good to great. Phantasy Star Online. I guess you could make a case that PSO2 NG came out in a bad state since there was no content but the actual gameplay is amazing

They were bought from Sega. Unless they change their internal teams, they will remain as good as it is.
Sega on the other hand is more than a publisher, like nush nush said. They can and still be incopetent at making games, make no mistake.

It is quite weird tho. The company is otherwise doing fairly well but utterly shit the bed when it comes to Sonic time and time again.

I really don’t care about Sonic, imho it always sucked, like what’s the fun of zooming a level and landing on a bouncer that pushes you back as if you even had the 1/60th ms reflex to see it on screen when going fast unless you memorize this shitty experience and all the other shitty branches to not fall for it next time.. making you stop dead on your track is this game’s moto and it’s stupid as fuck. It’s poor platforming. It will never go to 3D with any form of acclaim or success because it doesn’t make any fucking sense to begin with even in 2D. The soundtrack and visuals were fire in the 2D ones, so problem very impressive for a young easily influenced boy in the 90’s with a character that looks like Poochie the dog from the Simpsons, the casino sounds for every fucking rings you pick or lose or bumps/accelerators you go through, that to enjoy that I can only imagine it’s a subconscious nostalgia for when you were waiting on your trashy mom’s all day long trip to the casino.

But the underlying mechanics of the game sucks. I think even Uniracer has more flow than this trash. I can only imagine that nostalgia and masochism is left for peoples to still cling to the hope of having a good sonic nowadays.

BUT

Fuck sega for fucking up Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragoon and Jet set radio. Legit games, they dropped the ball and they’re a shell of their former selves now.

Yea between this thread and that "rate how bad Sonic Frontiers will be" one yesterday, dunno what people's problem is.
To be fair, SEGA did immensely fuck up the initial footage release by giving IGN an incredibly early build that was really jank looking. It clearly had a bad effect as you still have threads like these where people scream that frontiers looks bad when pretty much all the footage released AFTER the IGN shit has been looking way better and more polished. That Nintendo Direct trailer has me genuinely excited to play the game.
As for the "open world doesn't look sonic-y" stuff... I think that's the entire point? Especially given that we know the cyberspace levels look much more like we would expect in a Sonic game. I don't think people are being fair to the game at all, if BOTW didn't have that arty/cell shaded effect it would have looked basically the same, and that game had it's fair share of empty spaces in it's world with fuck-all to do. At least with Frontiers, Sonic is moving pretty fast so you'd probably want a lot of space to move around.

Sega's incompetence regarding the sonic franchise is undeniable, but doesn't necessarily reflect on the company broadly. I really think Takashi Iizuka must be the problem.

There is just a general hate boner for most popular things these days across the internet. Sonic is just an easy target since not many people are going to defend them as there is *some* truth to it that the franchise has been mismanaged for decades.

The game’s are not amazing, fantastic, or break boundaries. They haven’t done that since the Genesis days. However, most of them are at the very least good and simple fun. They are kids games, after all. Really no different than the typical lego title.

And it's the second thread on this same topic that the same user opens in two days, topping both with raging youtubers with awful flamebait thumbnails 😂

I swear, some people must haunt youtube for hours just to find angermongers who can validate their weird rage. 🤔

Sega and the Sonic IP needs to be bought by Microsoft and given to Mojang and Id Software for skin purposes.

I'm sure Doomguy collectables could extend to finding Sonic dolls, as you rip and tear across hell. Acquisition money well spent.
