Sony Files Trademark For New PlayStation Controller With Belt Straps

Recently, a new patent was spotted by Zuby_Tech on Twitter, about an upcoming controller. This patent is for a strapped controller, which means that there will be a belt in place to keep the controller intact while playing. Unfortunately, why exactly this strap is in place is not known, but there are some educated theories some fans have come up with.

One theory suggests that Sony could be working on something similar to the Valve Index Knuckles. This controller basically allows players to grip it when they are picking up objects in the game, and this ensures a much more realistic experience.

Looks like this version will make the action of picking up or dropping items within a game world feel more intuitive.

Half-Life: Alyx port for PlayStation?
They wouldn't need these controllers for that. You can play alyx with any VR controller, the hands free was a nice addition to Valves $300 controllers.

My guess is they're already working on a successor. They wouldn't go through the trouble making new expensive controllers as an optional add on for something that largely does the same thing.

Maybe in response to the criticism of the cord. Maybe a PSVR2 pro to launch with the PS5 pro? Who knows.
