Don't know if the two threads will be merged (here there are many interesting charts and details as well although the thread title should be updated) but great news both financially (biggest SIE's Q3 ever) and with the increased PS5 forecast to 19m.
Many people expected the opposite.

According to Sony

FY15 PS4 40.0 m (march 31, 2016)
FY22 PS5 38.3 m (march 31, 2023)

Sony looking to crush and bury the PS4 sales figures with the PS5. It's miraculous they have been able to do so well given the pandemic causing issues. Now we'll get to see what an unchained PS5 can do on the market

Even though PS5 is still currently behind, its obviously gonna blow past PS4 in the next year. 2023 is like the real PS5 launch for the casual audience. I expect sony will sell 25m+ this year breaking yet another one of their records.

Sony lifts outlook closer to record level, raises PS5 sales target

TOKYO, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Japan's Sony Group Corp (6758.T) on Thursday edged up its annual profit forecast, helped by a strong showing for its videogame division, and raised PlayStation 5 game console sales target by one million units to 19 million for the business year to March.

The electronics and entertainment giant also said its

chief financial officer, Hiroki Totoki, would become president and chief operating officer from April 1, while retaining his current role.

I remember that last gen, the Xboxone/PS4 split in the USA was 50/50. But globally PS4 was winning by ratio of 2 to 1. At least that was probably it, it had been so long...

But from recent numbers we are suspecting that PS5 is winning USA by 2 to 1. Which would extrapolated to a crazy degree when the rest of the world get their stock.

Xbox had its chance. There was several years when PS5 can't get off the ground due to stock issues. If Xbox managed to justify people to switch in that time period, they could have made a dent. Life is filled with missed opportunities.
