"OLED Microdisplay and low latency head mount display” This is a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) that projects a high-definition 3D space and achieves a high-resolution of 4K with one eye and 8K with both eyes. High image quality is achieved through multi-pixel and miniaturization using fine processing and advanced packaging technology cultivated through the development and manufacture of CMOS image sensors, and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) microdisplay using device and circuit technology cultivated through the development of displays. The processing time is reduced by decreasing the amount of latency throughout the entire system thanks to the integration of data from multiple sensors. The person watching in VR can experience high-definition images in real time according to the movement of his/her head. In addition to industrial applications, the OLED microdisplay is expected to be used in the entertainment field, as it can express the texture of materials and human expressions in high-definition in real time based on movements of the viewer’s head. “Sony Technology Day” is an event to exhibit various Sony Group technologies. This time, Sony Group introduced eight technologies, under the theme of “Technology that inspires emotion,” that connect the various businesses of the Sony Group and support the evolution of the company. You can access the presentation videos of each technology on the following special website: Sony Technology Day https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/tech... ============================================================ Welcome to Sony’s official Technology channel. Awesome news, certainly gonna look nice for psvr2.

Rant:

I don't like it when they simulate a dub... They could have got someone who spoke clear English, but they seem to have decided this girl would be more relatable if she was voiced by someone reading katakana from a sheet lol... No such problem for the dude

Honestly, one 4K panel per eye sounds like it'll be too expensive to put on PSVR2. Sony must make the headset cheap enough to get wide adoption, otherwise all the investment they're doing in software and hardware is going down the toilet.

that low framerate is headache inducing .

PSVR2 lookin‘ sweet.

This is an early prototype showing stuff that will be implemented somewhere in the future, their long term vision. Stuff will changed, improved, fixed and evolved before they implement it on a commercial product.

PSVR2 is -very likely- going to be released next year, so I don't think will implement this. I think it will have a smaller resolution (max. 4K counting both eyes) and higher framerate instead because as of today doesn't make sense to go that far with resolution, but makes more sense to spend part of that horsepower to increase the framerate because it's key for VR.

They sure know how to reel us nerds/men in with their buzzwords and talking of shrinking and multiplying. I'm excited.
