Steam has started its spooky-scary sale of Halloween games for the season of pure evil, you can find a full list of the morbid, deliciously twisted, and questionably spooky here.

EDIT: Grrr, I had asked to make the Halloween Sales Topic but it would take some time since I was doing various write-ups, but seems someone on SteamGAF didn't listen. Rechanged the title to recommendations, but here it is.

---

Being a horror enthusiast, I thought I might point out some good horror titles for all you horror-lovers, or even just the curious, to check out. These are a few titles I think are good in their own ways, each and every one of them worth the price of admission... If you dare.

Going to start in order of release date from oldest to newest, not in any sort of order of quality or significance (though I hand-picked titles I thought were worth checking out), after that period will list some older games.

>There also are some... Decidedly questionably spooky titles on sale, I will leave it to others to mention these, I'll be sticking to my horror games.

If you want me to talk about any of these games in more detail, just ask.

Listing USD prices, but of course available in different prices regionally.

-----

BloodRayne - $0.99

From the creators of NOCTURNE, you play as a vampire, known as BloodRayne, in this classic action-horror game where you take on all sorts of evils, from monsters to nazis, in the dark of the night and feast on their blood. Shlocky, B-faring fun.

BloodRayne 2 - $0.99

The B-fare action-horror continues as you dismember and feed off your foes in the sequel, the controls were a bit behind the times when this came out, but it's still a solid and old-school romp through a Gothic underworld.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - $4.99

Possibly the best vampire game ever made. There are some mods that improve the experience by a margin here on GAF somewhere, sure someone can dig it out. A first-person RPG-action game with horror tones (and some levels in particular) where you are a creature of the underworld, dealing with the filth and grit of the world to get by. Good atmosphere, writing, and quests.

BioShock - $3.99

Do any of you really not know what BioShock is? You're in an underwater city separating divers from their daughters or something. It's good, go check it out if you haven't already.

Dead Space - $4.99

Dismember the shit out of body-altered human 'Necromorphs' on a mining ship, as you learn that religion is corrupt, only engineers can do jackshit in space, and an atmosphereic and jump-scare ridden Resident Evil 4 meets The Thing meets Alien combo can work out pretty well, actually.

Penumbra Complete Series Pack - $2.99

The game series that started it all for Frictional Games, who would go on to make Amnesia and SOMA. Personally, I always liked the Penumbra series more than the Amnesia series, but that may just be me. As a defenseless man, hide and sneak through the dark, solve puzzles, and survive the monstrosities in a hidden underground Greenland facility. Was split into two parts, both worth playing though the second part is definitely the most memorable, then a third part was a puzzle-based expansion. The above includes all three.

The Path - $2.99

An experimental art game... Hey, where are all you guys going!? It's a game not for everyone, but it takes the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, multiple different versions from around the world, and explores them. The Path is about actually going off the Path, as going to Grandma's house is maybe not desirable, but be careful of the 'wolves' out there... Good atmosphere, music, and an abstract story, even though yes, it's one of those art games where the gameplay is shit, unless you really enjoy trotting through the woods picking flowers or something. But an interesting little experience.

F.E.A.R. - $2.49

That game everyone claimers about the amazing A.I. and shotgun. And to be sure, these things are both amazing. Really it's more of an FPS with horror tones, a bit repetitive, but its mechanics are extremely solid and can hold the experience for some the whole way through. I personally have always liked its expansion, Extraction Point, more than the main game (much more horror-oriented), but it's included for free with the game right now, so what is there to lose?

Eversion. - $2.49

The only non-horror game on this list!...Maybe. Press X to Evert!

Amnesia: The Dark Descent - $4.99

Some obscure horror game no one's ever heard of.

Dead Rising 2 - $6.79

Suffer the problems of a gambling man as he must pay off for the medicine of his dying daughter by winning it big in a corrupt, casino-ridden city. Or just dress up like a pretty princess and kill zombies all day, hey, either works.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record - $6.79

The above game, but screw the daughter, and now stars Frank West, the main character of the first game. Also added a sandbox mode and improved co-op.

Dead Space 2 - $4.99

A more action-oriented, but in my opinion, much better paced game than the original. With more unique monsters, more varied locations, a more intricate story. Isaac, the main character from the first game, has been in a mental hospital for years out of his mind, and finally comes too... Did him some good since between that time he seems to have finally learned how to talk. However, this poor unfortunate soul can't catch a break, for as soon as he comes too, BAM, Necromorphs are back, and he may still be out of his mind. Features Not-Velociraptors and exploding babies.

Lucius - $0.99

Basically The Omen: The Game. You play as the son of Satan, killing all the people in a mansion who believe your the owner's child. Sort of like Hitman, except Satanism, as you're a little demon child who has to use his growing arsenal of Devil powers to discreetly kill the people who come here one by one. There's also a sequel I won't list, cheaper than it's ever been and there's a pack that includes both game on the Steam page for the first one.

Resident Evil 6 - $7.49

Fuck all of you, this game is actually pretty decent. It's not scary, don't try to pretend it is, but what it does have is some pretty good third-person action game mechanics, interesting and varied enemies, a very mix-bag set of campaigns that's maybe too bloated for its own good but with a variety of good and bad moments, and some fantastic Mercenaries. Best experienced with a friend.

Outlast - $4.99

Do you like sitting in the dark trying to preserve camera battery life as naked dudes run free in a closed-off mental asylum? Sure you do! The game and its expansion pack, Whistle Blower, are on sale. The game is a bit front-loaded, but definitely has its moments of spooky scariness.

Gorky 17 - $0.69

Don't let the outdated graphics fool you, this is a cult classic post-apocalyptic strategy-RPG game with strong horror tones and atmosphere that's something of a hidden gem.

Knock-Knock - $1.99

Who's there? An odd dive into the an odd world of time management, survival, picture-book esque horrors, and obtuse directions, but figuring it out and how to survive is part of the fun. Best experienced going in blind, and with a bit of patience and willingness to retry and learn from your mistakes, there is a pretty good experience in here.

Typing of the Dead: Overkill - $4.99

Grindhouse cheese & sleaze for either a mouse on-rail shooter, or a keyboard typing-a-thon. Has a cheesy but enjoyable plot that never takes itself seriously and has a great dumb ending, some pretty good boss battles, and more cussing than I could mother-fucking say. If you want something not really scary, but with all the sweet 70s horror grindhouse violence and twisted bio-organic monstrosities, and maybe want to spruce up your typing, this is a game for you.

Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut - $2.49

It's a cult-classic for a reason. A game that is truly unlike anything you'll ever play, but also similar to a lot of things. Basically Twin Peaks: The Game, but more so it has some amazing elements, does some things that are so-bad-its-good, but is grounded by a likable and well-developed group of characters, an over-the-top story, humor that is laugh-out-loud funny both intentionally and unintentionally, and an intriguing central murderer mystery, and overall strangeness. Not scary, but has its twistedness.

The Cat Lady - $3.39

Twisted point'n'click among the best of em. An older woman decides she wants nothing more to do with life, and commits suicide. However, some form of reaper contacts her in purgatory and tells her that it will not let her die, until she can in life kill five demons in the real world wearing the skin of men. Really good story, atmosphere, twists, and style.

Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition - $6.79

The best version of the classic action-horror game. You play as Leon, a man who goes to Spain to save the President's Daughter. Not really requiring knowledge of the series past to be played, the game has great pacing and twisted monsters that try to stop you in this hammy tale of a bad-ass American versus a twisted cult. Was a game-changer in its time, and still is a well-paced title that continuously throws new things at the player all the way through to the end.

Harvester - $1.49

One of the shlockiest games you may ever play. Full of shocking, crude, 90s-filled horror, over-the-top violence, trying to be super offensive to everyone, and has a number of downright hilarious moments. Stars a man who awakens in a strange 1950s-styled town with no memory of how he got here, people he doesn't know claiming to be his family, and something more sinister lurking beneath the surface of the small town. One of the B-est games of all time.

DreadOut - $3.74

An Indonesian horror game that's inspired by Fatal Frame. Has a strong atmosphere and sound design, low-budget graphics, but full of surprises, twists, turns, and a lot of variety actually. Has some stand-out horror moments, especially in the last third, which stick-out as quality horror. Some fun, but simple, combat mixed with some cryptic puzzles, some interesting and haunting scenes, and a lot of creativity with a bit of jank. One of the most 'old-school' feeling newer horror games that captures what made those games enjoyable though, but definitely can be cryptic sometimes.

The Last Door - $2.49

A point'n'click with a pixely style, but don't let its appearance fool you, this is actually a really good horror point'n'click with a great story, good music, some actually creepy parts, and is told in an episodic way. Season 2 is coming out very soon, completely worth playing through Season 1 (which is what this is).

Claire - $2.49

A 2D side-scrolling horror game featuring a teen girl and a dog she meets, named Anubis. Taking care of her mother in the hospital, she suddenly walks out to get coffee, but gets trapped in some form of nightmare world. Something of a mixture of Silent Hill and Clock Tower, she now must make her escape from labyrinth-like locations as she unravels a bigger going-on. Has some creepy scenes, tense sequences, and some interesting run and hide gameplay with shadow monsters, darkness, and light. It's a strange experience down the rabbit hole.

Silence of the Sleep - $3.39

A 2D side-scrolling horror game made by one person. Has an interesting 'cut-out' visual style, matched with a strange story that's somewhere between The Shining and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. A man with thoughts of suicide ends up meeting an odd bartender who goes on to take him into a world where shadows resides, and memories lie. Has some really creepy and tense moments, and then some down-time with the weirdos and eccentric characters. Also has a good atmosphere and great sound design.

Alien: Isolation - $24.99

The hide'n'seek game with an intelligent Xenomorph enemy. Has some combat and maybe goes on for a bit longer than it needs to, but has some tense cat-and-mouse gameplay set in the detailed- & full of lore world of Alien, and make the sort of horror game in that universe fans have wanted for a while now, mixed with some fun twists on similar hide'n'seek horror games, most of all being the Xenomorph being an interesting enemy itself.

The Evil Within - $19.79

Truly a love it or hate it game, though I quite liked it. It's a bit rough around the edges, has some trial-and-error moments, and changes tones multiple times through its course. But it's stacked-full of variety, has stand-out moments, some engrossing, violent, and satisfying gunplay when you get the hang of it, and has some twisted monsters in a variety of locations with a variety of tasks. Limited supplies and surreality, with a somewhat thin plot, but something of a rollercoaster of an experience. Has a demo if you want to give it a try with the first few chapters, also a lengthy game and the game really starts with the third chapter (the final chapter of the demo).

Sanitarium - $4.99

One of the old classics of point'n'click horror, but stands-up due to some amazing atmosphere and a good story. Starts somewhat typical, an amnesiac wakes up in a twisted sanitarium mental hospital, but gives way to all sorts of twists, and some legitimately creepy moments. Considered a masterpiece by many, and for good reason.

Resident Evil HD Remaster - $14.99

One of the best-regarded classic survival-horror games of all time gets a release in HD on Steam. A 'RE'make of the first game in the series, it stands-up well even all these years later, showing the classic survival-horror style in true form with atmosphere in aces, creepy enemies and mechanics, a cheesy but staple plot that launches the series, limited supplies, fixed camera-angles with tank controls, and all sorts of twists and turns through an iconic mansion. It has some beautiful art direction and introduces new things through its course to keep things interesting and unexpected.

Dying Light - $29.99

An action-horror game with great parkour, surprising atmosphere and tenseness in scenes, a dumb story, but enjoyable zombified gameplay that's basically Dead Island, but better in every way. A realization of a strong concept, and some really fun 4-player co-op gameplay to boot. Zombie killing, parkouring, twisted fun.

Sunless Sea - $12.72

Set sail to the deep, a Lovecraftian game about you as captain with a crew at sea, a rogue-like where you must manage your crew and explore, and what happens is up to you. Unearth otherworldly horrors, go mad and eat your crew, explore uncharted waters and fish for supplies, and much more. Also has quite a good story to it.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 - $14.99

Hey, it turns out this game is actually pretty good. It returns Resident Evil to hammy but enjoyable plots with enjoyably quirky characters, matched with a more limited-supplies action-horror game with more atmosphere than the last few games combined, told in an episodic way with a fun little narrative and cheesy writing, but some tense, challenging, and surprising moments through-out. It's maybe the best blend of horror and atmosphere Capcom have done since RE4, and though a bit low-quality in some areas, makes up for it in execution. Each episode is generally better than the last.

Zombie Army Trilogy - $15.29

A co-op grindhouse zombie game with some fun gunplay, great 80s style, fun and varied stages, interesting and varied enemies, and some challenging mechanics. There's virtually no story (there is one, but it's super minor), Hitler was into Satanism and brings back his nazis as an army to rule Germany once more, and you must put a stop to him. A good amount of content, full of secrets and fun things, it's straight-forward but nails the execution and is not only super solid, but very fun with friends, and surprisingly atmospheric.

Shutter - $1.49

Made by a GAF'er, a short horror game that isn't amazing, but actually fairly decent with some good creep-out moments and story. You play as a security camera robot who records the surrounding area to survey a house on sale, but begin to find paranormal activity... Puzzle solving and some unique camcorder gameplay commence.

Into The Gloom - $1.49

An actually really creepy puzzle-horror game, the world in the game is composed of nothing but black, white, and red, shades of gray, and simple, retro-like graphics, but it is really oppressive, the puzzles are challenging but fun, and has things from the shadow that slowly are after you... Multiple endings as well.

(continued in a next post)

Dusk Golem

A 21st Century Rockefeller

Lakeview Cabin Collection - $7.49

An episodic horror game series I'm surprised hasn't gotten more attention on GAF, it's something I think you guys would love. In each episode, you play as a selection of characters in some sort of horror setting playground, you are free to do whatever... You can wreck the place, butcher your friends, try to survive, streak naked, drive out of there... Really, whatever, and try and survive the horror of the episode, from masked killers, to cursed artifacts, and much more. It's quite fun and still releasing new episodes.

The Charnel House Trilogy - $2.99

A collection of three short related stories, that actually has a really good atmosphere and story-telling. A point'n'click, the game accomplishes a lot through its narrative, sound design, and atmosphere to actually be chilling.

Killing Floor 2 - $20.09

Violent, gorey, and one of the best arena shooters out there. Improves so much off the original. Still in Early Access, but a good one, fun co-op with 6 players (or beyond), really satisfying gameplay, unique classes, interesting enemies, and varied levels, and its all continuing to grow.

Uncanny Valley - $2.49

A 2D sidescrolling horror game where you play as a man who takes on a new job in a technology department in the forest. The game features, "Do what you want," gameplay with a day structure with time passing. Do what you want in that time, and try to uncover the dark secrets and strange going-ons that begin to happen. With multiple paths through, multiple endings, and a game made to be replayed.

The Music Machine - $1.49

A walking simulator, but some small gameplay stuff in it, and an actually very interesting story and style. You play as a girl who has the spirit (or is it a split personality?) of an adult twisted killer, they go off to an island where the girl stayed when she was young to explore what life means to them.

Monstrum - $8.99

A horror rogue-like with a randomized ship you're on, as well as a random monster (there's multiple). The goal is to find a method to escape the ship, there's more than one way to do this, but while you do this and do the tasks you need around the ship, the monster is hunting you. Actually scary, and challenging.

Sylvio - $6.49

Not a game for everyone, it's very slow, but also quite chilling. You play as a soft-spoken foreign woman who goes to an abandoned amusement park and surrounding locations to exorcise the dead there and find out what happened there, a mystery that's surrounded the place for years. You do this by recording sounds in the environment, meddling with them with an audio player to form out messages, solving puzzles and taking out shadows as a story slowly unravels.

Kholat - $9.99

A walking simulator set in Russian snowy mountains, based off of a real world incident. The objective is to explore a big open-world and find points of interests using a map and a compass. Has some great atmosphere, an interesting story, some good music and narration, and a variety of fun things to uncover in the cold barren forest and mountains, and something in the mountains with you...

Spooky's House of Jump Scares - Free

It's FREE~ A game where you enter a spooky house, and must transgress 1000 rooms. It's a bit slow with nothing happening for a while at times, but it has some good moments, surprises, and intrigue to back it up, and again, it's free~

Dead Realm - $4.49

Currently in early access, and it's a multiplayer game, but a large player-base already. It's basically One monster versus multiple humans (up to 8-players currently) in different game modes, with different monsters, in multiple stages. It's quite fun, not fully scary but matches can get tense, current game modes is a Slender-esque mode and something sort of like a hybrid of hide & seek +tag. New content gets added twice a month, and they've been good with updating the game and the community with what they're up too.

The Ritual on Weylyn Island - $4.99

This game's actually just about to come out of Early Access. It's surprisingly quite good, you're on an island with strange cultists as you explore the island, survive horrors, and unravel a creepy mystery. Sort of like a game version of a horror movie, but it's good.

Unloved - $12.79

No story, single-player or multiplayer, but this is a fun and tense horror-FPS rogue-like. Originally was a Doom 2 mod, formed into its own game. In Early Access, but updates regularly. Fast, creepy monsters, satisfying and fun gameplay, super oppressive atmosphere, and a variety of locations you venture deeper into. Simple, fun, brutal, creepy, either alone or with friends.

Layers of Fear - $9.74

Currently in Early Access, but it's caused waves in the horror community. Inspired by P.T., but not a rip-off, this game is actually quite creepy, scary, and interesting. You explore a world of an artist, with layers of it slowly peeling away. It's been received so well by so many for a reason, as many say it's just as good, if not better, than P.T., though for me I think it's better to say it's a really good atmosphereic horror game, simple gameplay but much intrigue and horror through sublime execution. See how it goes when out of EA.

Stray Cat Crossing - $2.00

An RPG Maker Horror with wonderful style, and fairytale-like horror. A colorful and surreal, but very twisted world with an interesting story, and lulls you into it with a cast of charming, but creepy, characters.

Close Your Eyes - Free (Gameplay Expansion DLC - $1.49)

Hey, I made this! And it's FREE~ But it's been received a lot better than I expected, there is a flaw that the middle section with keys is repetitive, but been well received for its atmosphere, sound design, voice acting, and twisted narrative. Multiple endings, if you guys play, know the 'Stay' decision is an early end.

Dungeon Nightmares II : The Memory - $8.09

An actually terrifying game that's a sequel to a phone horror game, but don't let that turn you off. This game has really creepy atmosphere, and is a rogue-like where you must make your way through a dark and haunted dungeon and try to find the escape.

Albino Lullaby - $8.49 (Episode 1)

A stylistic and colorful horror game being released episodically, Episode 1 is out right now. It's quite a ride, has a lot of style, a unique-world, and twisted Albino monsters you must survive. First episode varies itself nicely and tells a fun little story, with more to be seen.

SOMA - $25.49

Very different from Frictional's previous games, not as scary as some of their other works, but has quite a thought-provoking story to it and a large variety of monsters, though a lot of it is spent world-building, going through the narrative... It's almost like a good walking simulator spiced with monsters of good variety, backed with a good story, and creating a dystopian underwater world. Less like BioShock than you may think.

Stairs - $9.74

It ends somewhat abruptly, but it has great variation and some good atmosphere. A strange horror game where you descend stairs, solve puzzles, take part in trials, and survive whatever may be down there... Weird, but I liked it.

Masochisia - $6.79

You discover you're going to become a violent psychopath, and now you must see what you can do to change your fate. A narrative-focused horror game where you sit down to talk to people, ask questions, get answers, actually creepy, and gets more and more creepy as it goes on.

The Coma - $7.49

Sort of a mixture of Corpse Party & White Day: A Labyrinth Named School. You are a Korean student who gets trapped in school at night with a violent murderer you must survive... But is that all that's going on? Good narrative visual novel side, good survival-horror side.

---

There's some games I didn't include either because they have been much cheaper in the recent past, or just not hand-picked by me (but some others can if they want), but hope to help broaden your horizons to the world of Horror on Steam.

I'll have a post of some 'Niche & Recommended' Horror, including some listed above, in a small bit for those who really want to dive into the obscure and niche, maybe required taste, but quality, horror experiences.

What are the chances that Dark Souls II: SotFS will be on this sale?

If it's not on sale already, it's not going to go on sale. This is the sort of sale where everything that will be on sale is on sale already, no daily deals or anything.

Yeah. Bit annoyed with how Valve selects its titles to showcase. I mean, really, GTAV does not need to be on there.
I don't mind if they want to push certain games in the front, but to not list them all is crazy to me. Like I Have No Mouth is also on sale, which I always wanted to play.

And it's worth playing, I didn't list it since it's been much cheaper in the recent history, but it's not like super expensive or anything, if interested I say go for it.

Typing up another post as we speak with some more niche recommendations and games on notable sale.

Yeah, I just noticed I picked it up at a cheaper price. Luckily Steam doesn't let you buy twice. Got Eversion and Sanitarium though (I saw playthroughs of them but never got around to playing it myself)

Excellent OP, shame Valve doesn't want to bother giving the sale a decent layout :p

Layers of Fear is fantastic, great visuals, what's there is surprisingly robust for an EA title, even more impressive they're considering it more of a prototype of the full experience. Gonna be an agonizing wait watching it come together. Thinking of doing another run through right now...

Obscure & Niche Recommendations (a few select entries of the above is repeated, but basically these are overlooked Horror games I urge more to check out, and some are notably worth next to nothing for some fantastic experiences):

(I'm going in alphabetical order this time, the horror games I re-recommend above will have some new write-ups about why I like them in a bit more detail)

Astray - $3.49

This is not the most amazing horror game you'll ever play, but it's a nice little experience. Doesn't force jump scares, the monster is a bit dumb, but some fun puzzles, varied locales and objectives, and mixes things up well. It's quaint, it's an okay to good game, but one of the better 'Okay' indie horror games I think worth mentioning, and a nice little experience.

BlackSoul: Extended Edition - $1.99

I couldn't list this game in the main OP without some serious resentment, but really, if you're a fan of old-school B-horror games that aren't exactly good, but interest, I'd say give this a go. It has a lot of technical problems, but some pretty decent puzzles, atmosphere.... It's like a pure raw indie version of an old-school horror game, it fails in some ways, succeeds in others, but I find myself a bit fond towards it. For my complicated thoughts on this one, I'll just link my Steam review here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/AestheticGamer/recommended/264480

Claire - $2.49

I really enjoyed my time with Claire. It maybe doesn't give the best first impression, as your map is kind of hard to use and the stages in the game are like sprawling labyrinths... But they aren't lifeless labyrinths. What I think a lot of games get wrong with labyrinth design is the labyrinths are uninteresting. This one isn't copy or pasted rooms, but rather rooms with personality, landmarks, notable points, doors to unlock... It also has a pretty good story and atmosphere, and in some ways reminds of Lone Survivor, Clock Tower, and Silent Hill. Enemies are unkillable but can be held-off with light, and they can stalk you through the labyrinths for a while if you can't shake them. Also has a sanity system like the Clock Tower games. Mixed with all of this is a dog companion like Haunting Ground, who's name is Annubis. It wears its inspirations on its sleeves, but I think is an experience worth taking, though maybe not for the impatient.

Curse: The Eye of Isis - $0.99

An old PS2 game that's a Resident Evil clone, set in a Museum with Egyptian-themed enemies. It's not AMAZING, but a pretty solid RE-clone game for those who want more old-school horror games in their lives. Has a good story, good atmosphere, some fun puzzles.

DreadOut - $3.74

I love this game. It's low-budget, but it has a lot of heart, creativity, and variety. It's probably the best 'old-school' style horror game to come out in years. It has a surprising number of ghosts, all who function differently, some cryptic, but in my opinion fun, puzzles, excellent sound design, and some moments (especially in the last third of the game) really stand-out in my memory as being fantastic horror scenes. I do urge those who don't mind some low-budget things and like older horror games to check this out. It doesn't have fixed camera angles or tank controls or inventory management, but it does capture that sort of intrigue older horror games had of the unexpected and strange, mixed with variety of scenarios to survive, rather than a one or two trick pony, matched with the ability to fight back but with intimidating foes, and crypticness at times.

Dreaming Sarah - $0.59

Not straight-horror, but has some interesting nightmare moments. A Yume Nikki-inspired sidescrolling exploration game that's actually pretty good. And for that price, really it's worth checking out.

Enola - $7.49

This is NOT a game for everyone, but I enjoyed it. It's kind of a slow psychological game with a focus on exploration. It has some technical faults, but a very interesting, surreal world. You can go long segments of gameplay with nothing really happening outside of exploring, there's some puzzles, stalkers, and creepy scenes, but it's kind of a slow-burn game about exploring what seems like an abstract, dying world, and I thought had an interesting story.

I Can't Escape: Darkness - $8.03

Sequel to a free online game, it is a great trap-focused game. You're stuck in a diabolical ruin full of traps, monstrosities, puzzles, and you must be cunning and survive to find your way out of this maze. Full of multiple paths, secrets, and a large variety of things that can kill you.

The Last Door Season 1 - $2.49

This one often gets looked over, it's an episodic series with super pixely graphics. But really, this game has a pretty amazing story, stand-out moments, and some good music. It's one of the finer horror point'n'clicks I've played, and I think deserving of far more attention than it gets. The Second Season just hit Steam, as well.

Lisa- $2.99

It's not a straight-up horror game, but yes, it's worth checking out, especially at that price. Quite an experience.

Long Night - $0.99

I was reluctant to post this game as I have some mixed feelings on it, but it is definitely worth $0.99. It has fixed camera angles, but isn't really old-school... If anything, it's like an older horror game on crack. The game moves at a stupidly fast pace, both you and the monster run like Olympic Marathon runners. If the monster catches you, that's it. If it weren't for these two things, I think I'd enjoy it a lot more though. It has some creepy imagery, interesting setting, and actually did scare me a few times, but I wasn't big on the one-hit kill monster and how fast paced the chases were, going super fast doesn't mix well with fixed camera angles. But if you can stomach that, there is actually a pretty decent game in here.

The Lost Crown - $1.99

This is a long game, like it's loooooong. It's a point'n'click, kind of slow. However, it has a pretty good story, and one of the best atmospheres I have ever experienced in a point'n'click. It's not a typical point'n'click OR horror game, it features you basically as a ghost hunter dealing with being from beyond. And it succeeds in capturing that feel. It tells an interesting, slowly unveiled tale, along with more atmosphere than you may expect. Slow, but unique.

Malebolgia - $3.24

Made by a GAFer! A stylized dark-fantasy game where you go deep into a grim castle, must combat monsters, with an oppressive atmosphere. The fighting is somewhat clunky, but the atmosphere is great, and set in a compelling world.

Murdered: Soul Suspect - $5.99

Not scary, but it does have its creepy moments (especially in the findable ghost stories). It was a rushed game, signs of this shows, and it's basically Collectibles: The Game, but I liked it well enough actually. I liked exploring around, phasing through walls, and the story and characters were interesting. If you want a story-driven experience that's not a straight-up walking simulator but a bit light on gameplay, I'd say give this one a shot.

The Music Machine - $1.49

It's a walking simulator, but I enjoyed it. It has an interesting story with an interesting character duo in an interesting scenario with each other. The style is flashy but simple, and I really liked the atmosphere and character-driven story. Really as simple as that, but I enjoyed it quite a bit for what it was.

The Rake - $2.49

Graphically, it leaves a lot to be desired, but actually, very unique! You're in the woods with a monster, have to use cameras (which the monster can destroy) and a limited gun to locate and kill the monster before it kills you. Use live animal bait, set-traps, and try to outsmart the monster. It's a really good predator, cat-mouse game, and actually literally just yesterday added online co-op, so worth checking out.

Silence of the Sleep - $3.39

Very overlooked, and a shame since it's actually pretty good. Made by one person, has an interesting style. Gameplay is mixed up into two kinds, areas where you are safe with other people around as you solve puzzles, and isolated locations with spooky shadow monsters trying to kill you that you must hide from as you solve puzzles. Story is pretty good, atmosphere is great, and some scenes are very memorable. Also is a fantastic showing of this single man's talents. Audio design is ace, also.

Slender: The Arrival - $1.99

It's not the cheapest it's ever been, and some will see Slenderman and roll their eyes. More-so, the game is more like a cinematic found-footage horror film in game form. But I actually really like it, I think it has a short but enjoyable campaign, really fun secrets and whole secret levels (the secret levels, of which there are four, are the best part of the game in my opinion), It's very different than Eight Pages, but if you like atmosphere, and something of a walking simulator meets Slender gameplay, but with some mix-ups, I think it's a good time. And I do urge anyone who plays to look-up how to access the secret stages, they are worth finding.

Sylvio - $6.49

SUPER slow-burn, but very interesting! Different than any other horror game you'll ever play. You play as a woman who enters into a strange, red-tinted abandoned amusement park to figure out why it was abandoned. The place is huge, with lots of different sectors, and the game is lacking action... You do have to deal with some shadow monsters with an air gun and bug spray sometimes, but it mostly is puzzle solving, finding spirits, recording them and figuring out what they say with an audio player you can forward-wind, rewind, speed-up, slow-down, and reverse (and combine these affects) to find out what they said to questions you ask. The story is cryptic but interesting, and it's got a unique yet odd atmosphere.

Vanishing of Ethan Carter - $6.79

I find myself a bit hesitant to call this one a straight-up horror game; it has its moments, but really it is more of a fantasy game. But anyways, it is good, gorgeous visually, and up there as one of the best walking simulators I've played. I would recommend it for those who want a pretty trek through a world with some interesting variety and events, though I feel the story falls a bit short.

White Night - $7.49

The game is slow, stylistic, has a lot of reading in it, and honestly the story is just okay, with some cryptic puzzles, but I found it to be an enjoyable experience through a creepy house with limited light sources and fun noir themes and era stylizations. It is more style than substance, though, but has some spooky and tense moments. Let-down a bit by its eventual story course, but I found it to be a fun moody ride.

White Noise Online - $1.19

It's basically an online co-op version of Slender, except Slenderman's not in it, and the main cast seem like Scooby-Doo rejects. However, it's fun for a few hours, has some interesting varied maps, and some smart decisions for a co-op Slender game (three cool features I really like are that when you die, you see the world brightly and become a ghost that can either help keep other characters sane or scout out with increased movement speed to help friends locate cassette players (this game's version of pages), the different character stats and fun to try and unlock them all, and the post-game map which shows the paths and events everyone went through). It's got some mixed reception, but I've had some fun with friends in it.

The Evil Within + DLC worth it at $26.39?

I say try to play the demo and see what you think. I -personally- loved The Evil Within, but it has been one of the most dividing games I've seen in years, there's a huge camp of people that adore it, and people that loathe it. There's almost an extreme with opinions on the title. The thing about Evil Within is that it changes tones multiple times.

If you like the base game, the DLC is worth it though. All three DLC add more unique gameplay, and easily add another 6-10 hours of gameplay alone. The DLC is composed of a two-part separate campaign featuring a different character, it's mostly stealth based but takes place in different environments, has different monsters, and some fun mix-ups of some returning things for the scenario. Also for some reason the DLC campaign has some really good boss battles, like way better than the main game. The third DLC is a first-person arcade game where you play as a monster killing things, it's almost like a boss rush, but it's fun, if a bit short.

The main game is about 12-17 hours long, the story isn't the best, and some get frustrated since most of the bosses in the game have one-hit kills moves they can do, but it can be very tense, has some great atmosphere, good variety, mixed with some stand-out moments. I found the gunplay to be tricky but satisfying, the enemies have good attack reactions in my opinion. There's a pretty fun upgrade system, I heavily suggest upgrading sprint btw, and the way enemies can take head-shots, lose part of their skills/jew/anything, and still be alive and standing is a neat feature that adds trickiness, and there will be moments you'll be hurting for certain supplies.

The demo is the first 3 chapters, and it will save your progress. The first chapter is kin of more a cinematic opening thing, the second chapter is a tutorial/build-up, and the third chapter is when the game really lets you go to start playing with it. If you like it by the end of the third chapter, I'd say go all in, though do know the game changes tones a LOT and sometimes feels like completely different games during different chapters.

Started playing Resident Evil Relevations 1 and I love it. There are some rough edges here and there but I love it.

But man, you just reminded me I still want to try out Dead Rising but... Germany. :(

Revelations 1 has some ups and downs, but I enjoyed it overall. Raid Mode is also a lot of fun.

If you enjoy Revelations 1, I would definitely recommend Revelations 2. I feel it improved in a variety of areas from the original, and actually had improved horror/survival elements as well as a better story, but finish the first game first (Revelations 2 can be played without playing Revelations 1, but there's a couple story connections I won't get into here).

Is Blues and Bullets any good? Just noticed that it's 25% off and it's been a while since I've played a good detective game.

I'm in for the Lucius Dualogy and Layers of Fear.

They both sound like exactly what I want right now, a Hitman rip-off horror game sounds awesome and P.T. is a wound that's getting ripped open a bit this time of year so I'd like a clone.

Nice job OP!

Is RE6 really worth $7.50? I'm really tempted but all the reviews and word of mouth said the game was a total dumpster fire. I love RE4 and 5 though.

Is there anyway to see a list of every game that is on sale? I went to Steam's homepage and clicked on the halloween sale banner but it just brings me to a blank page telling me to search for a game or check off tags. Checking off "games" leads to zero results (same with clicking the link in the OP). -.-

Steam client and website seems to return "No results were returned for that query" when I access that site. Guess it's broken at the moment.

How much content is there currently in Layers of Fear? I saw the Best Friends playing it this month, and I'm wondering how far they got. What's going to be added after its early access? Is it randomized at all?

If anyone here doesn't have RE4, buy it now so you can enjoy Chris and Albert's texture mod. That's the cheapest I've ever seen it, and honestly, it's worth it even if you own the game a few times over already.

What's the verdict on RE Revelations 2?

Pretty good. It's more of a solid horror game than any of the recent entries... it plays the most like RE4 of any RE game since then. The main problem is that it's very cheap- you can see the low budget reflected in the heavy recycling of assets and mediocre visuals- and it's also very unoriginal at times. Capcom steals so much from The Last of Us in particular that it's almost cringe inducing (they took the workbench wholesale), and I'm pretty sure one sequence was borrowed from The Evil Within.

Still, it's a solid experience in spite of all of that. It's not great, but it has its heart in the right place and isn't trying to be COD, which is something you haven't been able to say about RE in a long time.

I am tempted to buy Lisa. How long is this game ?

8-10 hours.

I'm in for the Lucius Dualogy and Layers of Fear.

Both Lucius games are enjoyable, a bit buggy, but also quite different to each other. The first game is more like a puzzle game, figure out how to kill the person. Meanwhile the second game is more like an open-world where you're given more options and freedom to kill people, but was a bit buggier. Get past that though, and they're interesting experiences.

Layers of Fear is quite good, still in Early Access but worth it I feel.

Nice job OP!

Is RE6 really worth $7.50? I'm really tempted but all the reviews and word of mouth said the game was a total dumpster fire. I love RE4 and 5 though.

If you like RE5, there's a high chance you may, but let me break this down a bit.

Resident Evil 6 actually is not that similar mechanically to RE4/RE5, if you try playing it like those games (which most do, myself included), it feels weird and you'll find you aren't doing too well. I think this turns off some initially from it. Know the game starts with a forced 15-20 minute prologue that's the worst part of the game. However, beyond this is where things get more interesting. The game has a lot of really fun mechanics, most of which the game doesn't explain to you, but experiment! There's a way to easily combine all herbs through the press of a button combo, you can slide around, do rolls, melee has a whole new system in the game that can be surprisingly engaging. I actually recommend you before hopping into a main campaign, just launch up Mercenaries and experiment a little, you'll probably learn a few things that'll make the main game more enjoyable.

It's not NEARLY as bad as some make it out to be. The campaign is very all over the place in terms of quality, but there's a lot of it. There's four different campaigns, each completely unique outside of a few crossover sections, and to complete all four takes about 20-25 hours usually. This, plus Mercenaries and a sort of tacked on but fun for a few rounds 'Play as the monsters in others campaigns' mode, make it quite meaty, especially for that price.

At its best, RE6 has some really varied and interesting monsters with some exciting TPS gameplay (you don't know until you do it how satisfying it is to slide up to a monster and shotgun it right in the crotch), the new J'avo virus is a good addition, it's kind of like Las Plagas but now you have to be more careful where you shoot (shooting the legs may give the enemies reinforced legs that can leap high into the air, or shooting the arm may make it turn into a worm-like thing that has a super-long reach and can drag people to it), the zombies are fun, and then things like mastering rolling out of the way of enemy attacks, or leaping backwards to lay on your back while you shot your gun at oncoming enemies, is unstatedly awesome feeling, and really stands out. The game also has some huge variety, everything from a level with optional stealth, to a section where you fly an airplane Ace Combat style, to a moody ship hull where you deal with monsters who regenerate their limbs, and a LOT more.

But not all of it are winners, and some moments of the game are pretty bad. There's so many ideas, but very little quality control. But it makes for an interesting co-op experience.

Speaking of which, while single player is leagues better than RE5, I do heavily suggest a co-op partner. Way more fun that way.

The only way is to check the specials tab on Steam, but it doesn't stick to strictly Halloween games and would be very disorganized. XD;

It's got more added, but they're still adding more to it based on player input and I think saving some of it for a big update.

What's the verdict on RE Revelations 2?

The GAF topic on it was quite positive and reviews were quite good. I personally liked it a lot, it reminded me of things of RE I've been missing from the series for a while. Each episode is better than the last in my opinion, it's not a full return to form but one of the better entries, has some real survival elements and limited supplies on harder difficulties (I recommend if not easily frustrated, game will let you knock down difficulty if you die a lot optionally), some fun bosses, and a actually enjoyable RE story (surprising after RE6 and such) with some funny moments, likable characters, and some good atmosphere in places. Not scary, but I found it a lot of fun.

If you like horror games, there's a lot here, actually.

God the Canadian Dollar really sucks right now. Most of these deals don't really feel like deals if you live in the Great White North. There's some OK sales, but nothing that I really want that I don't already own.

Put me on the like side. But yeah, people are really divided on this one. Personally I think it is a fine spiritual successor to Resident Evil 4, and I liked this a lot more than RE5 or RE6.

The game is generally better on PC too, if you have decent enough specs. And they did release patches to remove the letter boxes and unlock the framerate past 30 if your PC is beefy enough. The FOV is still limited, but then again it is comparable to Resident Evil 4 (the HD version) in that respect. I use cheat engine to alter the FOV, which makes it a little more enjoyable for me.

I think the game is great, especially after the first few chapters. There are a lot of great set pieces and locations. The gameplay has quite a bit of variety in it too for the type of game that it is.
