Switch Recommendations?

Resident Cheap Arse
Depends on what types of games you enjoy

Personal recommendations:

BoTW is a big deal for a reason - fantastic game.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Absolutely fantastic Strategy RPG. Tons of content. Like they originally intented to have two or three separate games but then just decided to put them in one package.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - awesome RPG. This is a big one to play though though and it's primary flaw is that it takes ~30-40 hours for the full mechanics to open up. Well worth it IMO.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - Expansion for XBC2 that got it's own stand alone release.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Pokemon with demons.
Metroid Dread : Just hell yes. Awesome Metroid game and controls so damn well.
Mario Kart 8: If you haven't played it on Wii U it's a must have. Refined and perfected.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - A classsic remastered. Still an awesome game and the new graphical style is charming as hell.
Dragon Quest XI - Awesome and huge JRPG. Switch version is arguably the best version
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - A very chill experience. Escapism.
Monster Hunter Rise - Action RPG. Good stuff.
Octopath Traveller - Classic JRPG with 5 different characters embarking on their own stories. Charming and great art style.

Besides the obvious Nintendo first party heavy hitters, I think it's a perfect system for retro kind of stuff, Neogeo, Sega ages (both admittedly kinda expensive) or what Dotemu is doing these days, that is SoF4, Windjammers2 or the latest Ninja Turtles.

Also would totally recommend Golf Story and maybe take a look at The friends of Ringo Ishikawa.

- Zelda Botw & Link's Awakening
- Triangle Strategy
- Ring Fit Adventure
- Shin Megami Tensei V

It depends on your taste then.

slay the spire if you like rogue liked with card based gameplay. indies really shine on the switch.
the other one is lumines remastered if you like fast paced block games like tetris. not the same but in the same category.
as the others has said, botw, bayonetta 2, smt v, fire emblem three houses etc.
one last i reccomend is diablo 3. its perfect for the handheld experience.

I have more of Hamster's Arcade Archives and Sega Ages releases than I do Nintendo stuff. It doesn't help that I have a Wii U, and most of the "upgrades" are nominal. Don't sleep on a Flip Grip and M2's Shotriggers either.

Its a nintendo console, on mine i have lots of Mario, arceus and zelda, everything else i play on my ps5 or pc

Unlike previous Nintendo consoles, the Switch has a bunch of third-party games nonetheless. And it sells. CdProjekt wouldn't have bothered to make a port of The Witcher 3 otherwise.
There will even be No Man's Sky in the near future. No point? Well, playing NMS on a handheld appeals to me personally.

I have to OLED too OP and further to my original recommendations I’d say Spyro, Crash, Demon Turf, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Dark Souls and Skyrim.

Geez, imagine playing witcher 3 on switch when the console can even handle Arceus in docked mode with a locked fps ( but runs smooth at portable ), i bought a switch just to play casual games like Marios and other indie games on the go, for third party AAA games i have my ps5, PC and Xcloud.

I’ve decided to get a Switch OLED after Christmas, but I need any and all recommendations for games. The first 3 games I was thinking about buying are: Astral Chain, Metroid Dread, and Cruis’n Blast. What else should I get? Thank you so much for the help! 🙂
First of all, it was the best purchase ever...

Nintendo Switch is so cool, it's like the Golden Age console of the modern SNES.

Go by law the Zelda Breath of the wild.

It is such an impressive Reboot, which reminds me of the time when Zelda Ocarina of time came out, I love the physics of the game's objects and it surprises you with each section that you play it, I am currently playing it and I love it... (Of course that Gravity rush 1 and 2 are always in my heart) but without a doubt I love the sound effects and the gameplay of BOTW.

With BOTW Nintendo earned my respect again.

I know this is an older thread, but For the King is on sale for $7.50 on the eShop right now. I kniw the reviews are mixed, but it's been one of my favorite blind/sale purchases ever and easily my most played local multi Switch game. If you're looking for the midpoint between Mario Party and D&D for a small group of friends; this game is it.

There are really too many recommendations when Op provides no direction ...

If I had to pick the games to start my Switch journey assuming no Wii U experience I would go:

BOTW
Fire Emblem
Pikmin 3
Mario Kart 8
Metroid Dread
Stardew Valley
Switch Sports
Ring Fit
And Mario Odyssey even though I found it very uneven. I would personally get Mario 3d World and Bowsers Fury and Captain Toad before Odyssey as acpackage but they are less Switch staples.

Lovely variety and hundreds of hours of fun.

If I was separately looking to build a starter Indie collection I would add:
Hollow Knight
A Short Hike
Overcooked
The Touryst
Golf Story
Thumper

Again a nice bunch to make one fall in love with Indies and decent variety too.
