Probably none of the story is locked behind a paywall.

Every other big gacha like Fate GO, Granblue, Epic Seven, Fire Emblem Heroes and so on can totally be completed without spending a penny. Fate GO is probably the biggest and you can finish the whole story with low rarity characters.

Gachas are usually 100% f2p on PVE. They get most (if not all) of the money from character collectors and PVP focused players, where you need a good pool of characters to stay competitive.
