Alright guys I am in a bit of trouble trying to find the best way to enjoy the full benefits of hdmi 2.1 ports on my TV.

So here's the problem I have a Sony xh9096 (or x900h or xh90 why different names ?) and it has 2 hdmi 2.1 ports, sadly one of them is also the EARC hdmi port so it is plugged to my amplifier.What bothers me though is that I want to plug my ps5 and my computer to a 2.1 port to enjoy VRR for example of HDR10 or high framerate or all of them.And all that could have been solved with a simple hdmi 2.1 switch or split if only my RTX 2080 had a 2.1 port...But it only has a 2.0 and a few display ports 1.4a.

So from what I gathered Nvidia added VRR support for the RTX 20XX serie and this bring me to the few questions that will follow.
1- Would this card be VRR compatible with my TV (if anyone has both it would gladly be apreciated to get a feedback on it)?

2- Would a switch 2.1 be compatible with VRR on both the ps5 (when it will be available but that's not the main concern here) and more importantly the Nvidia card even though it not technically hdmi 2.1?

3- Would a switch introduce a perceptible decrease in response time from the TV?

4- And last question if none of that works what would be your solution?

About question 4 I have a few hypothesis that may work but I am not so sure.I was thinking about either a switch/converter DP1.4a to Hdmi 2.1 or a cable dp1.4a to hdmi 2.1 then a switch, but again back to question n°2 & 3.
The other solution but I have absolutely no idea if it can work is a bidirectional split from to Earc ports to the receiver and the pc or ps5.

If I was not clear in my post or if you have question I will gladly answer them and if I wrote badly please be indulgent it is 4:00 AM but my insomnia is kicking pretty hard.

Well he is more of a preacher than a specialist and the probelm here is more of logistic and compatibility than simply awe in its effetcts.

1. If your TV requires HDMI 2.1 for VRR then I don't think it will work, but just plug it in and try it. Both your TV and the Nvidia control panel should tell you if it does or not.
2. If direct connection works then I would think the switch would work as long as you find one that does VRR. I had to deal with this recently for my laptop.

4. You should be able to establish very quickly if your GPU works with your TV just by plugging it in. I'd go from there and come back and report results.

As far as adapters, I had a hell of a time with displayport and HDMI in regards to getting regular freesync working with a monitor. I actually returned my laptop due to that. I bought several cables, adapters, and nothing worked. You might have better luck, but I'd only go down that road as a last resort.

Just a heads up - HDMI 2.0 supports 2160p 60 Hz HDR10.

HDMI 2.1 just adds support for 120 Hz.

I'm with Topher, let us know if you get VRR in HDMI 2 and then if you get a 2.1 switch you'll at least have that. It does suck Sony use up a 2.1 port for eARC, after 2.1 amps with multiple inputs exist more widely its less of an issue but its not like that's coming super soon and buying new equipment is pretty annoying when the TV could just support more 2.1 ports and rely on eARC to transfer the best quality audio.

Alright I slept about 4 hours so I am now in way better shape, luckily I had a thin friend with long arm coming over today so we could finally reach the hdmi ports to try if VRR worked and ladies and gentlemen IT ... DID.
So next step for me is to find a good Hdmi witch with either hdmi-cec or a remote.

I actually own one or these (I mean it looks the same) due to the whole issue with only one 2.1 HDMI port on my TV (and one for eARC) and owning a PS5 + Xbox Series X.

It works as well as advertised but yes you do need to get up and click the button to switch.

The only caveat is that after awhile it goes into a sort of sleep mode when not in use and then whatever device I power on it detects that and has it selected until it "sleeps" again or I manually change the input via the switch. So i can boot my PS5 or Xbox Series X after it being off for awhile and it will act as if that was the prior selection and send the signal to the TV.

That could just be my model of course, as with anything like this coming out of China and landing on amazon there's 20 clones that all look and claim to do the same thing but then all act slightly diffrent, but more than happy to have it next to my soundbar rather than having to faf around with cables at the back.

Same for VRR. Some manufacturers may implement freesync or gsync, but HDMI 2.1 includes VRR in the specification.

So I think that chart is saying what the specification is rather than is it possible.

Yeah as I said, the only thing HDMI 2.1 does that HDMI 2.0 cannot do is 4K120.

Plenty of TVs and AVRs use 2.0 and eARC.

Alright guys I finally got a switch Hdmi 2.1 (4 in 1 out) and it works perfectly at least on a technical level.The only flaws so far is that it doesn't automatically switch to a new Hdmi in when said source is turned on and the few seconds of delay when you chanfe the source.First problem has been mitigated when I paired each sources to an universal remote that is now voice activated and the delay between source was mostly a problem when I was configuring it.
All that being said I may clear some confusion with Hdmi 2.0 unlike quoted post (or maybe more precisely) It can at least in my case output 4k120 but without HDR or 4k60HDR both with VRR.
It even solved a problem of audio sources sometimes constantly switching on my computer so an added bonus ...
For those wondering I bought this one.So far I can recommend it but if it die on me I will come back here to tell you.There's just one thing I don't understand on the remote there is 2 output on the remote when the switch only has one, I have no idea why.
I tried dobly vision,Vrr,4k60 hdr,4k120 and CEC controls it all works so I got all the things I wanted.
I wanted to try with a displayport 1.4a to hdmi 2.1 to get 4k120 hdr and VRR but I have heard conflicting reports about VRR working so I may try it later, for some people it worked even with an adapter that was not VRR compatible and for others it doesn't.
