It's interesting that ND knows how much the fans were put off by or outright hated Abby and their solution (seemingly) for their next game is to double down on that type of caricature for another MC, i.e. cocky, girl boss, with attitude.

Also it's just becoming plain tiring to some people that nearly every Western game now features a strong women as the MC. You can can practically predict every new Western game will have that as the MC and be right 90% of the time.

It's not just that it's a female protagonist, it's a female protagonists that's almost always unattractive, yet completely insufferable.

AFAIK these dislike viewers only measure the reactions of people that have the app and the only people interested in this data are people who are more likely to be downvote brigaders anyway. Given that the data is likely to be hugely skewed, it seems largely useless other than as a metric for dudes who want to feel like they’re doing something while doing absolutely nothing.

As far as I know, only dislikes from Sony haters are counted, and likes from Sony fans are not counted, so this could explain the numbers.

Character and DEI aside, I'm just not excited for more retro 80s aesthetics. Netflix made success with Stranger Things and Cobra Kai calling back on the 80s. Yeah its an interesting one. I know its a completely different genre, but you'd think someone at PS might be at least a tiny bit nervous with the reaction after Concord's quick demise.

In all fairness if the character's written well and is appealing, it'll work just fine. The issue in my mind is that they are leaning towards to what is a negative stereotype for a significant portion of the audience, a stereotype I stress that was really hammered into viewer's minds by the preceding hours of the show, and is something that needs to dealt with.

The reality is that a videogame protagonist practically speaking has to at the very least be competent at stuff, because its the player's "vehicle" throughout the experience and ham-stringing them is not going to sit well! So, flaws need to be carefully crafted in to make them relatable, and human. The problem comes when woke creatives are so enthralled to their own dogma that they refuse to do this because that would impact the message they wish to send by their "representation" choices. This is why we have these ridiculous, unlikeable Mary Sue types in modern media; the only permissible character flaw permitted by their dogma is to make them abrasive and obnoxious.
