So you didn't hear the music in the trailer? The 80s/space vibes did nothing for you? The art with clickable buttons but a future vibe went un-noticed for you?
The 80s kitsch was the takeaway, like I noted in my original post tonally I found the whole thing to be just odd.
Bear in mind the trailer opens with an alien script that is translated into English, hinting at heavy lore. Then it cuts to a gaudy 70's style space exterior (the shattered spiral moon etc.) with a weirdly anachronistic Porsche logo plastered on the back of a space-ship. Then we get our lead shaving her head etc and the next thing I see is the close-up of the panel with the SONY logo at which point I'm thinking is this Cory Barlog's long rumoured project at SSM?
The point being I felt more like I was being hit with some distractingly in-my-face product placement than nostalgia! I'm old enough to have been a teenager in the 80's so the imagery isn't "exotic" to me, for want of a better word!
Its just a mish-mash of elements from around that time that presented with all the wit and subtlety of an adult jangling their keys in an baby's face!
It also didn't help that I'd felt my soul leave my body after the TGA's had crept past the 3hr mark and was basically gutting out the last part of the show! I wasn't at my most receptive or forgiving because I was pretty tired. pissed off, and just wanted the show to end.
So, to answer your question, did I notice? Yes. Did I care though? Not really. It also probably didn't help that although I was into the PSB's back then, I've never liked "It's a Sin." For me it pretty much their first single that left me cold, despite me liking the album and the other singles off it. "What have I Done to deserve This" would've sat way better with me!
