The ‘Halo’ TV Show Will Reveal Master Chief’s Face, And It Looks Like This

There is a single rule about Master Chief in the Halo series, as there has been for 20 years. He never takes off his helmet, never shows his face.

While there’s no Mandalorian-like creed demanding that he does this, it’s just sort of how the character has worked all this time, an unwritten rule about Master Chief. A rule that’s about to be broken.

It’s now been confirmed that in the upcoming Paramount Plus Halo TV series, which premieres soon and already has been greenlit for season 2, Master Chief will reveal his face:

343 Industries’ Studio Head of Transmedia, Kiki Wolfkill, talked to IGN about it:

“I think we set out to tell a character story and a personal story,” she said. “And once we really got into what that story was, it became clear that you really needed to see the person in the armor and under the helmet.”

“You will see his face. For some people, it’s been a moment 20 years in the making, and for other people it is something that feels very hard to imagine. We absolutely respect both sides of that fence, those who really want to see Chief’s face and those who really don’t. But for the nature of this story, it felt really important to connect with the Master Chief in a different way, and that meant showing the face.”

It should not be a huge shock that this is where we ended up, given that from the start, the main question was why the series was not casting longtime Master Chief voice actor Steve Downes, given that presumably, you would just need a stuntman in the armor and the voiceover to be done later, if Chief is always in the armor. But with another actor cast, it makes sense the logical endpoint here is that chief was going to be shown without his helmet.

And we uh, know what his face looks like, since we know which actor is playing him. This is Pablo Schreiber, who you may recognize from American Gods or Orange is the New Black (yes, he played “Pornstache”).

Celebrities Attend The Denver Broncos Vs New York Jets Game

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - OCTOBER 12: Actor Pablo Schieiber attends the Denver Broncos Vs New York Jets ... [+]

What’s not clear is how often Chief will be seen out of his helmet in the show. In The Mandalorian, for instance, we saw Mando take his helmet off for just a small handful of scenes. That’s compared to The Book of Boba Fett which had Fett walking around helmetless for most of it. I would guess it’s not often, but we’ll see.

I remain…skeptical of this whole project. And I also think this is, what’s the word here, a bit presumptuous for this unproven Halo TV series to think it should be the place to reveal Master Chief’s face after all this time? I don’t know, that just feels weird to me. The trailer was fine, but I remain somewhat unconvinced about how this is going to go. I hope it’s a pleasant surprise and turns out to be really great, Master Chief’s face and all, but there are a lot of hurdles it’s going to need to overcome to both satisfy Halo fans and bring in newcomers. Halo launches March 24 on Paramount Plus.

We havent even seen his face in the game. That is the problem.
this is not the game. this is not the game universe. this is an "alternate universe" at best.

people have been race and sexed swapped in this version. as well, so what the Master Chief looks like in this "universe" does not matter to the game universe.

Still that doesnt justify them to show his face. He needs to stay that way. Giving him face, without the game showing it is a slap to the fans.

I don't like this. Not being racist or anything. but to me, not showing the face of MC was a symbol of hope. that anyone can be a MC. regardless if that person was white black asian didn't really matter.

They should have stayed original to the game.

eh oh well. its just a video game I know but kinda not really happy about it.

it's a shitty TV show, it was bound to be shit, it will be shit, and I decided to not watch it the day they revealed it's not canon

you are concerned about his face, but not all the change to the story canon, the fact that the covenant raised a human female who will beat the master chief in 1:1 combat, and the chief has to be rescued by the asian chick 1/4 his size as seen in the trailer.

and you are concerned about the chief's face.

The show would be shit. And as you said, its another universe.
But there is one line you cant cross it. And that is showing his face.
As //DEVIL// //DEVIL// said, MS chief is hope. You cant give a face to hope.

Yeah, considering the shitty political and social atmosphere nowadays, I hope that Eisenhorn Wh40k series gets canned.

Lol I could understand long time fans that are Hc being pretty upset but it’s always been a weird thing that he doesn’t take the helmet off is he like 89 under there? For the longest time I thought he was a robot or something

And apparently it was a good call.

Was it?

That being said how come ratings in the 40s for films are yellow, but for games that would be a red.

Seems pretty odd, first time I've noticed it on MC tbh.

Not sure what the hate is for. They describe his face often in the books. He takes off his helmet.

If this ends up being a success it will introduce more people to the halo universe. Which gives previous fans more opportunity to talk about it with others.

If it’s a good show who cares. If it’s a bad show I’m sure him taking off his helmet won’t be the reason for this.

Movie reviews use the scale far differently. A 4/5 for a movie is extremely highly recommended . A 4/5 for a game is not nearly as high.

Wouldn't that just be classed as an 8/10? As some publications use out of 5 for games as well as films & vice versa with out of 10.

Seems super odd, I personally feel reviewers should use the spectrum properly with games though, as people see a game rated 7/8 as bad.

When 5 should be seen as average.

Maybe I haven't paid much attention to movie reviews over the years.

I wish companies would stop trying to make games into movies or TV shows.

A Halo movie would have been awesome if it covered the first game or "The Fall of Reach" the book.

John's face was described in The Flood.

From the Wiki
" In Halo: The Flood, the Chief is described as tall with short brown hair, serious eyes, and strong features. His skin is unnaturally white as a consequence of spending most of his time in his armor."

That statement just reads like a bad excuse.
It just sounds like some exec at paramount went "we need to see the actor's face, it's better for audiences!(money)"

If his skin isn't unnaturally pale, then you know it's exec meddling.
