Batman DOES. And Reeves specifically said this movie is inspired by Batman Ego:

Yes I want him to be a raging vigilante, taking out his pain on a proper seedy Gotham through brutality, like I said I wanted something different each subsequent movie kinda ups the violence if you haven't noticed so why not go all out, have the audience at the start of the movie uncomfortable with supporting the bat due to his means and redeem him by the end, y'know.. something new

Batman is primarily for children.

If you want to see some vigilante brutally kill people then watch something like John Wick. Leave Batman out of the ulta violence and gore. We don't need to see Batman crack open a man's chest and pull out the beating heart while screaming like a mad man.

Why does ever Batman movie need to be a moody, brooding, dark, gritty, violent movie.

I would want a 2022 version of the Batman TV show. THAT would be fun!

This.

Batman should be fun and whimsical. Like the 1960s Adam West version. That's the essence of Batman.

No, one great thing about Batman is how flexible he is as a character. There is no "should be". If there were, the character would have disappeared long ago.

There are a few core traits: the death of his parents, the vow, Gotham & the bat outfit. Even those can be argued as subjective.

1960's Batman is awesome. Gritty Batman is awesome. Batman is awesome.

That wouldn’t be Batman, though.

I’m as down for a fucked up, super violent vigilante story as much as the next person… but not in a Batman film.

They tried the ‘broken, corrupted’ Batman who kills in BvS, and it failed dismally.

This is because he’s a hero… not an anti-hero. The second someone tries to make him into one, the character falls apart.

Batman doesn’t do what he does every night because he’s just a monster filled with rage or vengeance. That’s part of it… but nowhere near the main reason. He does it because he want to help people. Save them. This might not be particularly cool in some modern, mature context, but it’s who he is.

Then Batman would be The Punisher.

No. We need more fun and family friendly Batman films like Batman & Robin from 1997.

PG-13 combined with the twilight star is a good business movie , this will bring new audience to batman
I consider Robert Pattinson one of the best, if not the best, actors currently working.

Some people might overlook him given his start in Twilight, but his work since then has been so, so, so good. Especially in the A24 titles.

Good Time was probably my favorite movie of the year. His performance in it is fucking fantastic.

High Life was also really good, albeit a weird movie. I really enjoyed it but it might not be for everyone. Again, he delivers a stellar performance.

Then we have The Lighthouse, which is probably one of my favorite movies ever.

Robert Pattinson is on a different level. Come at me.

The only Batman stories worth risking an R rating for are The Dark Knight Returns and A Killing Joke.

If someone says that Pattinson is 'just the guy from Twilight' in 2022, it tells me that they're taste in movies is very mainstream, vanilla, and very probably terrible.

I'm watching The Dark Knight again and the movie is perfection to me. Even if you dislike the direction they took, you can likely recognize it's bursting with quality from the soundtrack to the acting.

I know some people critique the action, and some shots do look choppy, but there's a ton of great action too, by way of awesome IMAX shots and exciting vehicle sequences.

My last complaint is the movie tends to drag a bit for me as we get through the boat & construction tower scene in the third act. Common issue for me with these movies, but this is one of the rare ones that roars back to life in the final few scenes of the film, so even there, it's not all bad.

I just had to get that out of the way, because when I watch this movie, I'm reminded that it oozes with quality. They do not make them like this anymore. They rarely ever did.
I mean, I love the MCU. Despite all of it's faults, it's got a lot going for it. But man, this makes even those films look mediocre. And I only pick on the MCU because they are the king of the pack, but WB and Sony, as of late, fare no better in comparison to TDK. This is the good stuff.

So I really just wanted to say that I think Reeves and WB have a lot to live up to, if they want to take down The Dark Knight. I know one of the producers said that's their goal - and good for them, because it should be everyone's goal, but good luck. Batman does tend to bring out the best work in people though, so I'm rooting for them to top it. What a treat that would be.

Giacciano has an uphill battle as well, because Hans Zimmer absolutely killed it on The Dark Knight. Giacciano could bring some more gothic or fantasy vibes though and win me over that way. However the soundtrack turns out, that could be one element sets the tone of this film apart from Nolan's.

I'll also say that Reeves' Batman can steal Nolan's style all day, if it intends on stealing the level of quality as well, or even getting close. I do think Reeve's unique style will reveal itself once we see the entire film, but even so.

Not too surprised, maybe streaming or physical release will have an unrated version.

I do plan on seeing the movie in theaters though. I haven't watched a Batman film since the one with Heath Ledger. I have no interest in the DC Universe films but this movie looks like it has a great vibe from the trailers I've seen. I also think Robert Pattison is a great actor, I haven't seen too many of his movies but I don't hold Twilight against him. You'd have to be crazy to pass up a role like that as a young actor. Imagine what the paycheck was, lol. The Lighthouse is an awesome movie too, he has good range and has a long career ahead of him.

I don't know what would make this an R rating. The basic plot doesn't lend itself to anything gruesome.

The trailers I've seen just make it look violent.

Like Batman beating the shit out of people, seemed like there would be alot of blood. There also seems to be a serial killer thing going on with the Riddler or some other Villain. Someone mentioned Zodiac/Seven and I can definitely see that, the movie looks like it has a gritty, melancholic vibe to it.

The first time I saw a trailer for it was a few months back and the way it started I thought, "Oh shit, this might be the Resident Evil trailer", lol. Surprised when it turned out to be a Batman film.

It's Riddler, but it's not really a serial killer thing. It's definitely a comic book villain thing.

His plan is to plant bombs in Gotham Harbor to flood the city like in Year Zero.

and he does (you can see it in the last trailer)

At least it doesn't have fucking Christian Bale. That guy was great in American Psycho but he was a really horrible Batman.

I rather the story dictate the runtime then the other way around.
We talking about Batman not Schindlers List.

I would much rather have a tight experience that’s rather short. Can’t do 3h tight, gotta give the movie space to breath and that might work for works like tlotr or Dune … but the Batman universe is just not detailed enough to support this kind of run time.

It’s all about Character and action, and that’s just to much time for just that. IMO of course.

See, you're already dictating what the movie is before seeing it. That's my same issue with dictating the runtime. Different films have different needs. And there is no reason a Batman film can't sustain three hours. There is plenty to unravel in a place like Gotham.

Like BvS?
Whenever Comic book adaptations get to these runtimes , without being the finale of a decade long run, I get the feeling there was no one in production to tell the people involved that “it’s enough and you need to cut stuff “. It’s like an RPG that’s 100h long, but most of it is garbage filler content.

The problem with Batman v Superman wasn't the runtime. I mean, that movie has issues, but it wouldn't have been any better at 90 minutes. In fact, that movie fared much better once the longer cut was finally released.

I don't understand the implication that Batman lore can't sustain a three-hour film.

The longer movie was better because it made sense of wtf was actually happening, the Batman universe didn't support the buffoonery no matter the runtime.

The movie would have been a lot better if half the story branches never made it into the script. This stuff needs to be straight forward ala Ironman (1).

Yes, I agree that the longer version actually made sense, as opposed to the version that was dictated to be short. That's why we shouldn't dictate the runtime of a movie based simply on the fact that it's based on Batman.

I also agree that BvS could have been improved by a better script. I don't think that necessarily means a shorter script.

It was a long movie made even longer, had someone told them "you have 120min" they would have cut a lot of stuff and I strongly believe the movie would have been better as a consequence.

With this one, we will see I guess. With a runtime like this I'll watch it in multiple seasons at home.

This implies that shorter always equals better, and I guess that's where we disagree.

Not unexpected. Maybe they'll release a directors cut. Pattinson looks like he could be way darker than any bats we've seen on screen

I don't believe in ratings at all. Let kids watch whatever the F they want. Batman cursing and snapping some necks can't traumatize them more than a couple of Tiktok videos / Twitter (full of porn btw) posts.

A few DC animated movies went places. didn't allow my kids to watch them with me.

Such cruelty... and naivety lmao

Kids will find ways, as I did when I was a kid. but it dose matter for them to know where the lines are.

I still have a bad feeling about this movie. I know there is alot of talent behind this movie but those trailers aren't really doing it for me.
