Finished playing iketsuki. short platformer with simplistic mechanics, lovely retro aesthetic and Eerie setting. Perfect to finish in one sitting. Felt like there's another ending I missed so I'll probably play through it again some other time and see what it is.

That looks cool, will have to add to the list. Know roughly how long it is?

Ooo thanks for sharing. Admittedly i don't play enough itch.io games but I'm always quietly intrigued.

Personally I'm just about to finish this:

Both "Stories: The Path of Destinies" and "Omensight" are on sale in a bundle for 8.99 on the Xbox store right now. Both games are absolutely delightful in the way they essentially marry an isometric dungeon crawler with the storytelling of a 'choose your own adventure' book from our childhoods.
Sorry for the self-quote, but now they're $7.49 for Gold members. Get them if you don't have them.

out of any indie game I've seen. think Lost in Vivo is one of the scariest things you can play. do to the fact that old PlayStation feels to the graphics make it kinda wired. especially when you get deeper into the sewer into a pit that seems to be entering hell. I would differently enjoy playing the game due to its great amount of work from the devs.

Hey chaps, I just released a dream project of mine for android along the lines of "punch-out" that I'm tryimg to fine tune. I have some free codes if anyone wants to check it out personally and provide a little feedback if possible.

Okay, let's see if it's possible to dust this thread off. If you're into indies, maybe put the thread on your watchlist and we can get something going. I'm just gonna comment on a few indies I've been playing recently then.

PC Building Simulator

This can be really fun once you get a job that's an actual challenge. Problem is, a lot of the jobs so far are equivalent to trash mobs and are pretty much routine work like switching the GPU or hard drive. At least it is for me since I'm familiar with PC building. But it does seem as if things will get harder later on. Until then it's still quite neat to play with a podcast or music in the background.

The House of Da Vinci

ss_a1e2de1d4b7bfe83e2b44ebf7a566e7477841542.600x338.jpg

So this is a puzzle game comparable to The Room. There's no doubt that this is a quality game with a lot of effort put into it. But I'm not sure that it is for me. I tend to tire quickly if I don't make progress and a lot of the stuff here is hard. I would never get through it all without help, but thankfully there's a very comprehensive hint system. Though a few of the solutions involve clicking in unlikely places so that kinda sucks. Honestly, if I do finish this I will make heavy use of the hints. Which isn't the worst thing, it's still cool to see how all these crazy machines work.

Immortal Redneck

Roguelike + Old School Shooter? Yes, I love both of those so this is right up my alley. The weapons feel good, the enemies are fun to shoot and there's a decent variety of rooms. You can run out of ammo which does suck when it happens as the only action you have at that point is to throw your weapon which does a bit of damage. This is an 8/10 for me and a definite recommend if you're into roguelikes.

Tower Unite

Tower Unite is a playground to hang out in, with a wide variety of mini games, an apartment that can be furnitured, a casino and lots of other stuff. Admittedly, a lot of it is pretty shallow but some of the mini games do have a large amount of content and some of it can be pretty challenging. My favorite is the Super Monkey Ball style mini game but the minigolf is really popular too. Best enjoyed with friends. I don't have friends but I had plenty of fun anyway.

Blasphemous

recently played through blasphemous, backed it a while back and never got around to it on ps4, and then it was on humble monthly, so i double dipped for it on PC

Castlevania style game with heavy spanish catholicism (I think i'm not sure what flavour of christianity it was) theme to it, which I was all about when playing it. the game wasn't hard but it could be punishing if you took it lightly. there's a corpse run mechanic to it that I wasn't the most thrilled to see, but as it is only affecting MP I sometimes just went on without actually bothering. that would be the only negative thing i have to say about the game except maybe i wish there was more bosses - not that there's not that many, just wish there was more, they all looked unbelievably cool and were all fun - I would whole heartedly recommend this to anyone who liked Igarashi's castlevanias, and would go further to say it might be one of the best in this niche if not the best.

Hylics

With all that's happen lately I almost forgot about this total fever dream that is Hylics I would not give it justice if i didn't include a trailer, the game is quite ifectious, I had trouble getting it out of my mind weeks after playing it.
It has a classic JRPG combat system with somewhat challenging fights at first the direction might turn people off but at 3,29$ (CAD) I must urge any and all to at least take a look at it, it is short - 3h to 4h-, it has great music, characters and it feels fun. That reminds me that i should get the sequel...

Blasphemous is cool, the art in particular is spectacular. But I wouldn't particularly compare it to the Castlevania games. Blasphemous is quite difficult, a few of the bosses in particular are a real pain in the ass and one reason I eventually dropped the game. The other main reason is the lack of interesting skills. Most of the time the combat will just be about blocking, dodging and slashing and it doesn't evolve too much. Contrast that with some of the Castlevania and Bloodstained games which feature hundreds of skills. Blasphemous will still be a great experience depending on what you are looking for, but it's a pretty different experience from Ritual of the Night for example. But I do know that some improvements have been made since I played the game, like better platforming and an improved map.

Cool thread, didn't know it existed.
Right now, the indie i'm playing is Horizon Chase Turbo, a nice simple arcade game thats extremely solid. Its based off the SNES Top Gear games

Talking about arcade racers, i'd also recommend checking out Distance

Also, i have a thread dedicated exclusively to Freeware games, since they tend to be indie most of the time i figured some people here might have some interest in it. Feel free to check it out or post your own recommendations.

sad to hear you didn't enjoy it as much as I, I get the complain but i kind of enjoy that type of bosses. the "lack" of skills didn't bother me at all TBH, I always end up using the same 2-3 skills in Castlevania games and I found those same type of 2-3 skills in blasphemous. I did enjoy Bloodstained a lot, I prefer the direction Blasphemous went with.

For sure, the Igavanias could use less focus on skill quantity and more focus on balance. But I have still found that trying out new skills and weapons and seeing what works is one of the things I enjoy the most about that franchise. On the whole Blasphemous and Bloodstained are both generally considered to be among the best modern metroidvanias after Hollow Knight and the Ori games.
