I'll throw out a question to you guys? (not you KFJ)

Was X05 all that you hoped for? I was expecting much more in the way of Megaton style stuff, with the 360 getting some more big franchises.

What they delivered was their stable of existing developer that we already knew about (Bioware, ID, Silicon Knights, Ubisoft) and showed markedly improved launch games, which honestly was probably the #1 thing they needed to show after E3 / TGS.

I was expecting more, but I'm ending up being more impressed at the way that many of these games are finally coming together. Still not a home run for Microsoft, but I think it shows how serious they are at pulling off a spectacular launch and how laser focused they are on that goal.
Not sure what all could be expected in terms of "huge news" but I thought they did a good job of showing whats coming for launch and in the future. I would have liked to see more of certain games and maybe a surprise or 2 (Bungie or Halo related) but all in all I think it went well.

The PDZ cutscene was a total fuck-up tho.

It wasn't stunning but it was a solid effort. Alot of the games should be delayed for development time and financial reasons though. They are releasing with too many titles in a short period of time. Still there are alot things I want to see more of ie. Madden.

Why are you guys comparing multiplayer to single player. In every game ever released there is a difference in quality. The multiplayer visuals look great to me.

Oh, thanks for pointing this out, i didn't know and didn't consider it might have been multiplayer. Ok, i guess this might explain the differences.

im still waiting for more COD2, madden, and nba videos of decent length.....also i want a BC list now, not when i open the box and try the games

Not sure if you've seen these, but if you go here

http://www.gamespot.com/features/x052005/index.html

and look on the right column there are 3 new CoD2 gameplay vids. They show some of the stealth portion where you're in a tunnel above the ground and enemies are shooting holes into it. Seeing the light seeping through the dark tunnel is awesome.

They could have pulled a Sony and had Bungie put together some real-time cinematics for Halo 3 or better yet, Pimps at Sea.

It's not like the MGS4 stuff is going to end up in game. It was essentially a demo to get everybody ramped up. Microsoft should have followed suit. It seems that they have been caught with their pants down at every turn from a marketing standpoint.

Why? We KNOW Halo 3 is coming, what is the rush?

I think you're misunderstanding me. They don't need to rush anything. It's about Hype. Microsoft generated a pretty good dose of it but by all accounts, fell flat on their face at each and every turn. They had that lousy MTV thing, a choppy shopwing at E3, and then some improved stuff at the last two major shows. The thing they didn't do was make people drool. Pimps at Sea could have done that.

I'm back from X05. Today was very busy with lots of games presentation. I did not have much time to get footage from games unfortunately and the presentations were not that interesting to film, no thanks to the ambiant noise and the tiny screens in these rooms. Bleh.
I'm encoding the new Kameo presentation now, the game looks even better than at TGS, thanks to self shadowing and DOF effects. Wow :)

@Blim: did ubisoft say anything about that SC4-trailer? was this meant to be a "target render" or was it just CG?

Blim - please please please please post some vids of Oblivion! :)

Ghost

Chili Con Carnage!
Shadowrun and Next Gen Fable (though i can guess why that wasn't there) are my two biggest WTFs

But im pleasantly surprised on the whole, mainly because Biowares game bought back a whole lot of fantastic KOTOR memories even with just a 30 second teaser. But also PDZ, PGR3, Kameo, Oblivion all at launch, Top Spin 2 looking fine...mother fucking PETER JACKSON involved with the Halo movie....yeah it was a good show.

I did not meet anyone from Ubisoft. They are not really friendly with french fansites.
Dorio: I wasn't allowed to film
Hsmp: 2k would not let me film any of their games. As always, they are the most annoying publishers, always giving everything to US sites.

I just read some Dead Rising impressions at shack news... sounds good but a HUGE WTF to no dismemberment. WTF? They give you 1000s of zombies and a chainsaw and all they do is fall over when you hit them? That's lazy as fuck. I can't believe they aren't adding that to a game all about killing zombies with sharp weapons, guns, etc. :\

wow, that crackdown-vid looked really good (at least what you can see in this dark video).

@Blim: thanks for the info!

Ah... it seems they took them down. Pity as both videos were quite clear, and the GR: AW one looked really great.

Crackdown vid looks nothing like the screens, I think. :)
Crackdown looked nice during the presentation, except for a very weird blue filter over the characters. It has some very cool ideas in fact, I just love the whole car upgrade stuff :)

Crackdown impressions:

Another aspect that distinguishes this game and that nicely collides with the moon-based physics is the personal upgrade system. Like in Tony Hawk's Underground, where points are manually attributed due to heavy use in a particular area, such as railing or air maneuvers, you can upgrade strength, driving, speed, athletics, and firearms. The result is visually demonstrated when using a car. If you're level four (out of five) in driving, then when you steal a new car from someone, it will react to your level, and like a James Bond car, transform in front of your very eyes. When you get out and walk away, it instantly changes back to normal old four bore sedan. The attributes aren't all that easy to get, but if you spent 25 or so hours just trying to build up your stats because that's the kind of gamer you are, then fine. It'll take time, but you can do it.
When you grow stronger, you can pick up cars, trucks, and other giant, solid objects and throw them. Playing two-player co-op, Jones showed how he and his buddy had brought a car to the rooftop. Jones drove the car off and jumped out while his buddy shot the rocket launcher at the car and blew it to smithereens before it hit ground. Players will also find all sorts of weapons available, from pistols and shotguns to SMGs, sniper rifles, and rocket launchers. You can even pick up a human and throw him or her.

Any nba footage out there? Don't get why 2K would go through that trouble of coming to show but not wanting people to see their games. It sounds quite stupid.

Thanks, is the game playable?
Yes it was playable. I did not have time to check it but the gameplay looked similar to the "old" Xbox version. I could be wrong though, I'm not a specialist of sports games like this.

I'm a bit disappointed. I've really been on the fence about the 360 of late. X05 was supposed to help me make my decision about getting a 360 this year. Right now, I'm torn. My hope is restored in PD0. No, it doesn't look like MGS4, but it looks a hell of a lot better than anything on the consoles today. It looks fun. Especially for co-op. PGR 3 looks great in the (little) gameplay footage that's been shown. Splinter Cell 4 was an actual surprise to see, but, then again, not much was shown.

Speaking of not much shown, where the hell are the direct feed hi-def trailers??? Is it just me, or shouldn't MS have a shit ton of 720P direct feed gameplay footage for download off their site to show off how incredible their games are? And where the hell is the direct feed of Oblivion?

While there were some surprises from X05 (SC4, Too Human shown, Mass Effect shown), there are some hype-bombs MS could have dropped but didn't: Nothing on a sequel to Crimson Skies. Nothing on Shadowrun. Nothing on Halo 3 (not that I expected any sign of Halo 3 this year). Nothing on Forza 360.

Then there are the unanswered questions: what games will we really see at launch day? What Xbox games do we know for certain (other than Halo 2) will work on the 360? (Shouldn't they know at least a few games that have been fully tested by now)? Will you be able to rip music from CD-Rs this time (fuck the RIAA! I'm burning my fucking iTunes, you shitbags!)? What are the load time and performance differences between the Coretard and Premium systems on, say Oblivion, or PD0? Were all the games demoed on HDD or non-HDD attached systems? We're about, oh, 7 weeks away from launch. 'bout time for some anwers.

I'm trying to justify the $600 I'll spend (Premium system, Oblivion, PD0, extra wireless controller, s-video cable) before Christmas. As it stands, it would be purchased via multiple giftcards from the wife, parents, and friends for birthday (BD is next week) and Christmas. (And I still don't have an HD TV!!!) I'm still not sure I can justify it. Some hi-def gameplay footage of Oblivion would help.

Blim i've missed all the news (been working away), I have seen a few of the threads regarding PDZ but the video you put up on your site with the co-op game play was fantastic, graphics aside (although they look fine to me), the pop up screens look great and is a really neat idea. I was wondering did you get to have a go at the co-op levels? I know your not a massive fan of FPS.

Wolfen the bombs surrounding 360 launch where dropped months ago, the PS3 will launch in 5 or so months time, MS needs some ammunition for that and I'm sure that was part of the equation on what was or wasn't announced at X05

I actually have a video from the private presentation of the game with both sides of the coop mode being played at the same time. Unfortunately it was almost impossible to make sure I had a good focus on the screens, so the video may turn out being not usable at all. I'll know tomorrow.

execept for 1up i dont think any site even covered that game :(
I checked it, and it seems like a very nice change from your average FPS. Unfortunately I had very little time to film it, and the guy who was playing had no idea what to do. So I have about 1/2 minutes worth posting. I'll put it online tomorrow hopefully.

I can't wait! This game looks pretty sweet, hopefully Gamespot or IGN can put up some impressions.
