Ubisoft won’t be holding a major product showcase this month.

The French publisher has traditionally held a conference each summer—almost always in June— to coincide with E3, but a company spokesperson told Axios that won’t be the case in 2022.

The Ubisoft rep said the company isn’t planning another product showcase until “later this year.”

The Assassin’s Creed maker held its first fully digital conference, Ubisoft Forward, in July 2020 after E3 was cancelled amid Covid-19 concerns. It claimed the format was a success, attracting concurrent viewership that surpassed Ubisoft’s previous E3 conferences.

Ubisoft Forward events were also held in September 2020 and in June 2021.

In March, several sources told reliable industry insider Tom Henderson that Ubisoft was planning a major digital showcase which was supposed to air prior to a potential E3 show this summer, but that those plans could have been put on hold due to recent world events.

E3 2022 was subsequently cancelled, but Summer Game Fest 2022 is expected to fill the void somewhat, with “events, activities and updates for fans from more than 30 partners” scheduled for June.

Ubisoft, which wasn’t on a list of Summer Game Fest partners released on Tuesday, is reportedly working on several unannounced titles including The Crew 3, Assassin’s Creed Rift, a 2.5D Prince of Persia game and an Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel.

If they don't have good things to show then why have it. Wish more companies would follow this line of thinking instead of having an event because it's expected then filling it with title card / cgi / non gameplay bullshit.

OK you tell the shareholders that the company is doing nothing to get some mind share when everyone else is hyping games.

Already bought behind curtain and upcoming announcement?
shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit could be.

I think they likely want more time with development and a shorter announcement and release window. They've been pretty good at that for some time and I think they see the benefit in a shorter marketing window and don't want to compete with all the other reveals. So, I get why they might skip this event and hog the spot light another day.

Makes sense. This month we are going to be talking about so many fucking reveals lol

Ubisoft doesn't want to sell, specially not to a platform holder or someone else who would change their direction or that in general wouldn't give them freedom to do whatever they want to do.

Don't need to showcase games when they're all practically the same shitty game.
The first post of the thread throwing shit with lies this time has been the #14. Not as fast as in the typical Ubisoft thread, we're improving. Go and play Roller Champions, it's free.

Are they really out of money?
Doesn't seem to be the case:

Its like the industry decided to take my favorite time of year and smother it with a fucking pillow. What a major disappointment this is. I want real e3 back so bad

meanwhile in the real world things aren’t so peachy:

The publisher's sales dipped by 4%, while consolidated net income saw a 24% decline YOY.

Ubisoft released its earnings report on Wednesday for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, which revealed declines in sales, consolidated net income, and net bookings despite some very strong performances by three of its top brands.
