Just over 90,000 games consoles were sold in the UK for the four weeks ending May 1st, 2021, according to GfK Entertainment.
It's a sharp drop of 59% over the same period in 2020. Of course, April 2020 was the first full month of the original lockdown in the UK, and that had an immediate effect on sales of games, consoles and accessories.
Nintendo Switch was comfortably the best-selling console of April 2021, unseating PS5. There was a significant drop in PS5 console stock last month, and in fact PS4 was April's best-selling PlayStation machine.
Xbox Series machines saw more units come to market, and was the second best-selling platform for the month behind Switch. Nintendo Switch and PS5 are currently neck-and-neck in terms of sales during 2021, with Xbox Series fast catching up.

Interestingly, the best-selling games of the month aren't reflected in the media charts. According to Press Engine, Outriders, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 and Returnal received the most press coverage in April (premium games only, not including free-to-play). But in the sales charts, they came in at No.14, No.13 and No.8. Of course, media coverage does tend to skew towards the more hardcore releases.
