Ghost was a new IP going against one of the biggest Sony IPs of all time and yet it had much longer legs than TLOU2.

Ghost charted 5 times in NPD top 20 in 2020: July (1), August (4), September (12), October (13), November (20).

TLOU2 charter 3 times in comparison: June (1), July (4), August (12).
A sequel will always be more front loaded than a new IP gaining popularity organically

I bought TLOU2 day one but bought Tsushima months after launch. I'm sure that's similar for many

Maybe not triple, but it would sell a lot more. The first-year surge of the PS5 hasn't really happened yet. Considering the big numbers it's selling and how few people can get a hold of one, if it was stocked, it would smash any record.
Just because it's more powerful than the other systems? Where is the killer application?

I have a hard time seeing that..

Please provide some form of evidence for your claim, anyone can claim anything on internet. In both US and Japan Ghost had way longer legs, so your claim is contrary to facts.
TLOU2 leg is pathetic tbh.

Comparison with other Sony PlayStation titles

VS Ghost of Tsushima

Metroid is still a niche franchise for Nintendo. Iconic for sure but nowhere near other Nintendo AAA.
We're talking about a relatively big name franchise with a lot of hype behind this latest release, with a huge userbase in what is a four-year old console. Higher than the previous games launch but that's a low sales figures considering the number consoles out there, surely lower than they hoped for. More in line with what you'd expect from a new IP.

Back 4 Blood being the 2nd highest selling game on Xbox despite also being on game pass on day 1 will hopefully shut up a few of the usual candidates.

Also Switch is a BEAST!!!

? Where did this data come from as it sounds suspect...

MrFunSocks MrFunSocks A. That is never going to shut up the usuals as shit if I bought Gamepass I wouldn't buy shit either and I'd assume it would effect sales or something so....that won't do shit to those that keep saying that as I get why one would believe that lol

B. Fucking awesome that Turtle Rock is back on some zombie PVE shit and hope it continues to do strong numbers long term. I hope they go for a Rainbow 6 type model and keep updating it with new content

We're still talking about 2D Metroid here with AA budget from Nintendo, so the sales potential is very limited and i do think even with 4M copies sold it would be a huge success for 2D Metroid.

The true benchmark for the franchise is on the next AAA budget Nintendo game and that's Metroid Prime 4.

When it comes to hype meter, Metroid Prime 4 trailer with just a logo alone has more views than any Metroid Dread trailers.

Yes 2D game definitely not everybody's cup of tea.

But excuses aside, if this was a big-name Playstation game you would be calling it a flop without hesitation, so you have to say it as it is.

Until I see Sony update their numbers for TLOU2, I don't believe it came close to their other IP's as the announcement schedule has been weird for it. Profitable I'm sure it was, whether its overall lifetime and growth matches other titles and the original is another matter entirely.

Anyways, I'm really happy about Dread's performance and Tsushima continues to chart

Gamestat, it was widely used by a lot of users here since Sony rarely handing out sales figure if any game underperformed.

Yea we spot a lot of fake data there bud.

1. In its 7th month how could The Last Of Us 1 have almost 9 million players, the game took 13 months to move 7 million units? If the data is fake, cooked, not true etc clearly this is an issue and one would suggest actually just going from real data provided by a real source vs "widely used". If in the event this data is based on JUST player count alone and doesn't factor used sales, people sharing games etc, it would make sense that The Last Of Us 1 had 9 million in that time, yet didn't sell that much as people beat the game, moved on and shared it with friends.

With a sequel that is longer and 7 years difference, it means folks might value the IP more, not share the game, sales increase and those that "borrowed" The Last Of Us 1, some of them didn't return for 2 or bought their Last Of Us 1 copy on PS4 the following years or something. It means that difference makes sense from new IP to established IP.

That isn't some smoking gun lol

2.Sony rarely giving a figiure if a game underperformed doesn't mean THAT is why they are not giving you info on The Last Of Us 2, using this logic God Of War 2018 failed as they spent literally YEARS not telling us its complete sales data until the PC version came out. As in...we know it moved 10 million, Sony doesn't give us the sale figure of 19 million until years later. Using this fucking logic, you would have been stating God Of War MUST have failed or "underperformed"

3. Playercount will likely differ based on the type of game. The Last Of Us 1 also had a multiplayer same with Uncharted 4 and God Of War, Bloodborne and Horizon being RPGs means one would play them much longer making that player count much more higher vs a title that is just a single player once over type thing.

So I don't know what to say man, I wouldn't put too much stock in this as the data is suspect and if its JUST a count of how many different players are playing regardless of sales, it just means MORE wish to keep their copy of The Last Of Us 2 or something lol could also be a rise of digital as that would drop many numbers on sharing for player count or something and Sony not telling us sales of something is normal bud, they didn't of several games that we know did well in sales, but that was also based on YEARS of them not saying anything either.

Why did you not factor that? Why did you make it sound like this MUST mean "underperformed" when they've done that several times with massive hitters. They don't just yearly give us updates, they've actually never done that with ANY GAME, like ever.... zero, you couldn't even tell me 1 title where they just yearly told us where it was at in sales or something. Even God Of War stats are based on it coming to PC and Sony telling us then just like with Ghost Of Tsushima having a Directors Cut and them telling us sales figures.

They legit for over 2 years stopped telling us God Of War numbers and that game didn't "underperform" and they didn't just randomly tell us it moved 20 million and they didn't continue to update us ever month on its sales sir.

make it make sense.

People wanna replace their old ps4. Yes, because it is more powerful, because they wanna play fifa and madden, because it got god of war, spiderman. All sorts of reasons. Playstation is still the go-to for COD and Battlefield and all the casual shit.

The sales of a game should be evaluated in their own context, not the context of other titles.

We have the remake leak and nothing more. Just guesses.

Yet a rumor of a remake of The Last Of Us 1 is more wild then a remaster Directors Cut of The Last Of Us 2 though...

Like I said, that directors cut is pretty much inevitable at this point and shouldn't be a shock, I don't even see whats to get triggered about lol

Spiderman remastered
Death Stranding remastered
Ghost Of Tsushima remastered
Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy remastered
The Last Of Us 2 remas- "just guesses" and or "Anything to backup this info?" lol

How about reality? Its clear they have a path they are going down with free updates for stuff like 60fps and Directors Cuts for other content and updates. So sir, we don't need a leak to tell us that shit is going to happen, we needed a leak to tell us The Last Of Us 1 was being remade though, as much as Sony likes remakes, its not like we know when The Last Of Us 1 would be done.

Could have been The Getaway, Killzone, Syphon Filter etc who knows, could have also been Ico. So the leak clears that up as it sounds to be legit based on Sony Bend confirming a new IP supporting that leak seems to be true, but it was needed to tell us a remake would happen for PS5, as for all we know it could have happened for PS6 or something. Who knows with this stuff lol

A directors cut on the other hand, more likely and inevitable based on how they are currently doing it with PS4 classics vs "guesses".

Unless people are calling Jason a lier, pretty much the remake of TLOUS is spot on and match the series with will tell the story of the first one.

We can speculated the others theory, but no sight of 'IF' was given.

I agree, but I'm not debating a remake of The Last Of Us 1 happening, shit I even say Sony Bend confirming a new IP, supports that leak being true...

Simply that a Directors Cut of The Last Of Us 2 is not only MORE likely, its pretty much a given at this point and a matter of "when". Its just not that wild and has happened too many times to really be making it sound like its a crazy theory as oppose to inevitable.

Director’s Cut for PS5 isnt coming out till Factions is ready. Which I assume it’s going to be announced in December. Maybe they’ll have a surprise TLoU remake release this December? Bundle that with TLoU2 and call that a director’s cut?

I have huge expectations for Factions thoooooo

Powerful doesnt mean nothing for gaming. you might have higher resolution, but that is it.

Your COD, FIFA, and other MP games are still on ps4. The ps5, just have some nice textures, that is all.

People wouldnt upgrade their device, because its stronger. They do it, because its a new device from PlayStation. Same as how people buy new iPhone every year. Its all about the brand.

The same happened in the other countries, as well. TLOU2 launched big, but quickly dropped out of the charts. It's pretty easy to guess why GOT and GOW have had several sales updates, yet TLOU2, the highly anticipated sequel to their 2nd biggest game (only slightly behind GT5) of the PS3 gen, has not had a single update after launch.

Mario Kart is under the umbrella of Mario franchise, (Super Mario, Mario Sports (Golf, Tennis), Mario Kart, Mario Party, Paper Mario, Mario 3D)

I know it's crazy, isn't it, how HUGE Mario is

But since Mario Kart is such a monster compared to all the others, and even mainline Mario, it deserves its own separate spot alongside mainline Mario (which is 64, Sunshine, Odyssey, etc). I wouldn't include all those other Mario games in there as evergreen titles. Just sayin'.

I provided numbers on several posts before. If you follow sales charts, then you would know this.

I can provide more week-by-week charts. The European region is much bigger and it didn't fare nearly as well as The Last of Us Part II. Japan is the only country where The Last of Us Part II dominated, but those sales are enough to make up the ground that was lost.
Not sure where you got those UK numbers, as far as I know UK numbers are not revealed. As for the other countries you mentioned then the difference is around 350-400, most of which will be made up by the Ghosts Japanese numbers.

Regardless, this conversation wasn't about which one sold more but which had longer legs. You've proven that in some European countries TLOU2 had longer legs, but these numbers are not as significant as compared to a region like US. Overall I expect TLOU2 to have more sales, but this is expected since it sold 4 million in the opening 3 days compared to 2.4 million that Ghost sold. Ghost was always playing a catch-up.

After selling 2.4 million in its first 3 days, Ghost went on to sell 6.5 million (official numbers by Sony) by March 2020, which means it sold additional 4.1 million after the first 3 days. This is all before Director's Cut. Sony also quoted official numbers 3 times for Ghost, the first three day sales, 5 million milestone in November and 6.5 million milestone in March of this year. Compare this to TLOU2 for which Sony only revealed numbers for the first three days and you can clearly deduct that Sony wasn't that impressed by its legs. This doesn't mean TLOU2 Didnt sell well, it means it sold well below what Sony expected over a period of time and therefore they never boasted about its numbers ever again.

If you take away the first couple of weeks of sales then everything seems to indicate that Ghost sold better overall after that period. This is supported by the fact that TLOU2 had massive drops beyond first week or two, whereas Ghost didn't see such large drops. We won't know for certain until Sony release official numbers, but the fact that Sony mentions major sale milestone for its flagship titles and never did so for TLOU2 beyond first 3 days is pretty damning and tells you that they were not impressed by its legs.

It doesn't matter what you think, Mario Kart by Nintendo's own definition is under Mario franchise umbrella. When Nintendo says Mario franchise has sold more than 750+ millions units, that includes Mario Kart games

This is false and you obviously ignored the chart.

1. Last of Us Part II was cheaper. It was discounted similar to God of War.

2. NPD is based on revenue and not units sold. This means if Ghost of Tsushima is $50-$60 and Last of Us Part II is $20-$30, that means Last of Us would need to sell almost more than double.

After selling 2.4 million in its first 3 days, Ghost went on to sell 6.5 million (official numbers by Sony) by March 2020, which means it sold additional 4.1 million after the first 3 days. You're making assumptions instead of looking at the sales charts. You can't go over sales figures if you don't bother looking at the sales charts, and NPD isn't the only sales chart in the world.

1. I did not ignore your chart, your chart did not provide final numbers of Ghost in Germany, just the milestones. According to these milestones Ghost is somewhere between 200 and 500 thousand units, but given additional time Ghost had to sell it would be safe to assume those numbers are not static 200 000 as you would falsely likely to believe.

2. Your sales charts don't give the whole picture, some only mention total sales and ignore the facts that a lot of those sales could have been early on when the game came out.

3. This is a discussion about which game has longer legs, not about overall sales. I already said that TLOU2 may have sold more overall due to its stronger sales early on.

Ghost sold 6.5M (official Sony numbers) as of March 2021 before Director's Cut came out, 63% of that number came after the first 3 days in which Ghost sold 2.4M. TLOU2 sold 4M in its first 3 days, if it added 63% after that then it would be past 10M. Do you really believe Sony would not have mentioned TLOU2 selling 10M? Of course they would, in fact they never failed to mention 10M sales for a game before, but instead they never spoke of it ever again when it came to sales. I rest my case.

? and? Thats how it is with new IP. People know what The Last Of Us is, they don't know what Ghost Of Tsushima is so you see the sale carry a bit differently over time as the series warms up to people, but sir that is how it was of The Last Of Us 1 lol

It didn't just move 20 million units in 1 year....

Compare this to TLOU2 for which Sony only revealed numbers for the first three days and you can clearly deduct that Sony wasn't that impressed by its legs.

But you are saying this, NOT SONY. Sony has never put out any statement like they are not impressed by da legs, THUS will not speak about the sales.

They didn't say anything for 2 plus years about God Of War. Using that slow logic they are not impressed with God Of War right? Yet....here they are telling us 2 fucking years later its at 20 million.

They didn't tell us at 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 etc...they just waited til 20 million cause it was coming to PC and they can state both reveals.

So you are comparing a new IP, you are also ignoring the directors cut and all the contented added that was revealed along with that milestone.

I don't see anything that points to them not telling you every month as some conspiracy...

Were you going to fucking tell us for 2 years straight that Sony was not impressed with God Of war and them not telling you sales numbers every day MUST mean doom and or gloom? Be like "The fact that 2 plus years has went by and Sony has not updated God Of War's sales numbers, clearly it must mean da gloomz

tells you that they were not impressed by its legs.

Dude...

I asked for UK numbers and you provide a link without numbers, lol.

You sneak in an odd month that TLOU2 returned to UK chart like it's supposed to prove something. I could do the same for Ghost but I see no point in such pettiness.

Sony always mentions 10 million milestone for all its games, let's not pretend that they don't. TLOU2 obviously hasn't reached those numbers.

I will say again, Ghost sold 63% of its units (before Director's Cut) after the first 3 days, this proves it sold at steady pace for along time, thus proving it had long legs. At similar percentage TLOU2 would sell 10 million, but it obviously didn't since it fell hard from the charts after the initial strong sales.

I'm not even sure what the point of your reply was.

I said before, you don't follow video game sales charts, so you're making assumptions because you want to believe you're right.

ITALY:
Note:

Last of Us Part II legs were stronger in this region and had a bigger launch than Ghost of Tsushima. 2020 charts show The Last of Us Part II at number 5 for 2020 while Ghost of Tsushima was at 18.

FRANCE:
Note:

Last of Us Part II likely had the biggest launch and the legs were not too far behind.

UK
Note:

Last of Us had a bigger launch but as the charts show, it didn't stop appearing on the UK charts.

80% drop is not unusual. The Last of Us Part II was a heavily pre-ordered, more than most of Sony's first part titles.

Australia and New Zealand
Note:

These are very small regions and Ghost of Tsushima had slightly better legs.

Sony always mentions 10 million milestone for all its games

Nope.

That has NEVER been a staple thing.

Like...never.

Unchrated 4. Sony never told us it moved 10 million, it wasn't until it was at 15 million units that we found that out.

Funny enough, they told us at 8.7 million in 2017...yet I wonder what prompted them to tell us something lik..... oooohh

lol

Its.....its almost as if they are waiting to tell us those figures when its relevant to the series. Once again, Sony has NEVER made a yearly thing on numbers for ALL GAMES, they have NEVER had it where ALL GAMES that past 10 million they tell you at 10 million the moment it happens or something lol

Looking back, even Spiderman didn't tell us AT 10, they told us 9 million units and then 13 million. So where you got this shit from of 10 being THE TIME that they state those figures is completely false. They do that shit before, at, after lol Some times its at 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 and yes 10 or 15 lol I doesn't sound like they have this MUST be at this exact number and then we tell you folks bud. Its never been that way at Sony or really any publisher to my knowledge. Its a great milestone, but many examples show you that Sony doesn't actually automatically tell the public just when that happens. Even with massive series.

At similar percentage TLOU2 would sell 10 million, but it obviously didn't since it fell hard from the charts after the initial strong sales.

Most single player games "fall hard" sir.

GTA V dropped 80% in sales after release, same with Uncharted 4, same with Fallout 4 etc.

Even MP titles this happens after release, I remember when people kept trying to make it sound like it was dooooomz with The Division dropped like 70% in sales after release and they were like "it fellz hard off da chartz bro, thus fall" and the shit went on to move 20 million units. So.....yea, I don't think this whole "what number on da chart" or "when did publisher say this about XYZ title" means shit. We've seen many examples where a game falls from the top 10, continues to sell and moves record units. Your belief is that it MUST continue to be in that to move record units, but its simply not true. Some of theses charts go on revenue, some of theses charts are based on physical only vs digital etc.

You going to tell us that a 78% drop in sales MUST mean Uncharted 4 failed?

Oh yea they didn't tell you it moved 10 million so it MUST have failed then right?

Are you sure about any of this considering that is what you should believe at that time bud? If this really means a fail, you'd have to argue God Of War and Uncharted 4 failed as those games drop from the charts at massive 70% plus and Sony then goes on years without telling us massive numbers like 15 million and 20 million.

Soooooooooooo yea. They've done that before and you just sound mad cause nothing unique is happening here lol

Not sure why we need to spread Fake News.

They mentioned 10 million for Horizon.

They also announced ten 10 million for certain game set in Norse Mythology.

Other than 10 million figure they also mentioned:

8.7 million Uncharted 4 copies being sold as you pointed out.

They also mentioned 8 million sold for GT Sport.

But where are TLOU2 numbers? Not mentioned once beyond the figure of first 3 days. Lol.

yea shit, notice no um

Sony always mentions 10 million milestone for all its game

They don't then....they went from 8.7 million to 15 million for Uncharted 4

They told you from 9 million to 20 million for Spiderman lol I mean shit, its clear as day that they don't ALWAYS MENTIONS 10 MILLIONZ. That has NEVER been a fucking staple, day 1, as soon as it crosses that line thing.

Its such an odd lie to make only to then bring up that I pointed out 8.7 million for Uncharted 4 lol yes, no shit...not 10 million, yet it moved 15 million units, thus Sony DIDN'T TELL YOU THE VERY FUCKING DAY it moved past 10.

They told you at 15 mill.

Soooooooo false bud. That has never been a iron clad, 100% thing at Sony. Its never happened.

Using your logic, Sony not telling you beyond 10 million for God Of War means it stopped selling or flopped or something, they literally stopped talking about that for over 2 years before giving any more data. So this whole thing of"not mentioned beyond" this or that is irrelevant.

Using that logic if you are in 2019, God Of War failed cause Sony didn't tell you it contintued to sell or something dumb like that.

ITALY:

Dude, you're hanging on to couple of European countries to try to prove your claim, lol. Look at the overall picture, the drop in numbers beyond the first week or two was massive for TLOu2, much less so for Ghost. We have yet to see a figure being quoted by Sony because the drop wa massive. In comparison Ghost sold 60% of its sales beyond the initial launch sales.

yea shit, notice no um

What happened to your false claim that Sony never mention 10 million milestone? Lol, in fact you yourself proved that they even mention 8+ million mark and yet we never heard of TLOU2. You trying too hard to twerk for TLOU2.

They going to be having melt downs when they reveal those numbers lol The game still charts and I'm not really shocked, I don't think that leak had much a massive impact as much as many think, we all see this stuff and talk about it, but a lot of people I know who game and have daily jobs and don't really keep up with this didn't even know much of that went on lol A good friend of mine recently got it and he and I were talking about it and he had no clue any of this shit was going.

So I find that a lot of this stuff is for the enthusiast gamer that reads a bunch of this stuff and talks about games daily and watches a bunch of youtube about it. Most don't really seem to care, as to why many of the big forum doomz and gloomz seem ot be irrelevant to like 99% of everyone else who games.

What happened to your false claim that Sony never mention 10 million milestone?

You too triggered to read lol

Nope.

That has NEVER been a staple thing.

Like...never.

Read. Learn. Listen. lol

Never been a staple thing, not never mentioned, or never happened or has never told us xyz. I think you are just in love with absolutes so you don't fully understand whats being stated lol Staple as in every single time it happens, they told you. They happen to not tell us many times and simply tell us 15 million or 13 million and just skip 10 all together, so no...its never been a staple thing for ALL GAMES to get that milestone mentioned. It sounds like with Sony right now, telling us at some reveal or along side some other game or port or directors cut or PC version etc is what matters I guess.

You just sound mad that you can't push that narrative that its something unique to JUST this game lol

Do you realize that the European region is much bigger than the United States when it comes to PlayStation consoles sold, right?

I didn't name just a couple.

This is 2019.

US: 30m
Japan: 8.3m
Germany: 7.2m
UK: 6.8m
France: 5.8m

That's about 19.8m units sold in France, UK, and Germany.

You have no problem "hanging" on to the United States, but try to downplay the impact of the European Region.

Are you serious? They mentioned 10 million for all PS4 games that sold 10+ million except Uncharted 4, that is pretty staple to me lol. I even forgot to mention 10 million that was announced for Spiderman PS4. Uncharted 4 they mentioned pretty close to 10 million and mentioned later when it was over that.

I ask you again, where are your numbers from Sony for TLOU2 that you keep twerking for so hard?

So US and Japan (regions where Ghost dominated) are almost double the number of the 3 biggest European sellers? Thank you for proving my point, lol.

Keep in mind, when they told us Spiderman sold 20 million, its not like anything major was going on November 202.... ohhhhh

lol they went from 9 mill, skipped 10 so that little theory you have is fudd and told us at 13 and then told us 20.

10 was never a staple, 100%, ALL GAMES, everytime it happened thing.

Like...never. Not that it didn't happen, read carefully here......it never happened ALL THE TIME ON ALL GAMES AT 10 MILLION. That figure for several titles is skipped all together even with us knowing it passed that mark as they'll tell us 13, 15 or 20.

SO...yea. Thats not a default thing they do.

Have a good one bud =)

Ghost didn't in the United States

Ghost finished behind The Last of Us Part II in 2020.

You also ignore the fact that Last of Us Part II was cheaper, so you don't know how it sold in comparison to The Last of Us Part II.

Thanks for proving my point that you don't follow sales charts and just make up mere assumptions.

So they announced it before it sold 10 million and then after during different quarters? Well, that makes perfect sense, lol.

So what we have where is definite proof that for all games they either mention sales just before the game hits 10 million or thereafter. So ask you again, where are the numbers for TLOU2? According to you it should sell 10 million by now and it's not known that Sony would delay mentioning such numbers.

I'm enjoying seeing you do mental gymnastics, lol.

Ghost finished behind The Last of Us Part II in 2020.
You keep going back to sales argument....

Ghost charted 5 times in NPD as I showed much earlier, TLOU2 only 3 times, therefore Ghost had longer legs as was the original point of discussion. Not sure why you keep bringing up overall sales as that wasn't the argument.

The deep lolz. Well yes sir, they give data to titles that don't move 10 million like under, some times they do just before 10 million, sometimes they tell you at 10 million, sometimes they skip it all together.

Holy shit, did you not realize clearly that MUST mean 10 million is not a fucking default, staple milestone in which they um what was it

Sony always mentions 10 million milestone for all its games

=)

Why on Earth would you even say such a weird absolute and then be like "well except for Uncharted 4 doe, I didn't knowz dat", did you not consider maybe more games did that and maybe, just maybe the thing you stated wasn't a "for all games" type deal or? To my memory, its never been always, all games type thing man. Never. Several games they simply told us well past 10 million, so its not really a thing they do "for all games". You can spin that shit how ever you feel like man, how many more "excepts" do you have before realize such a statement can't be "all its games"? smh.

Thats what you get for rage posting man lol Read slowly, understand whats being stated. The fact that several years went by and we never got God Of War numbers past 10 million only for Sony to tell us 19.5 million or something at the PC reveal shows its not a thing they do in some order "for all games".

I don't recall that its ever been some exact thing.

Even when you yoursefl fucking state "they either" and then "or thereafter" yea they do don't they....not "for all games" but either or and sometimes.....yea....almost as if it has no exact timing or something...soooo weird lol

You just don't understand how NPD works.

The Last of Us Part II has been $20-$40 for the most part of 2021. That means it's going to be much harder to chart since the revenue is lower.

Marvel's Spider-Man, God of War, and The Last of Us surpassed Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone in less than two months on the overall NPD charts for published games.

They rank in DOLLAR SALES, not units sold.

$20 x 50,000 = $1,000,000.
$50 x 30,000 = $1,500,000.

This means The Last of Us could sell 20k less and still rank under Ghost of Tsushima in the sales charts, but that doesn't mean it sold more units.

July 2021
23 - The Last of Us Part II
37 - Ghost of Tsushima

August 2021
2 - Ghost of Tsushima
10 - The Last of Us Part II

Director's Cut was released August 2021 and The Last of Us Part II was on sale during this month as the article states.

The Last of Us Part II

Turns out that many gamers were waiting for a sale before playing the latest Naughty Dog epic.

“The Last of Us Part II jumped to No. 10 on the PlayStation best-selling titles chart, after ranking 23rd in July. The title was price promoted across several retail outlets in August.”

Full-priced title vs discounted one. You cannot determine how many units were sold versus Ghost of Tsushima.

NPD is revenue, not units sold. You can't keep spinning information because you want to believe something totally different.
