[VG Tech] Blair Witch PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Frame Rate Comparison (Backwards Compatibility)

The versions tested were 1.02 on PS5 and 1.0.23.0 on Xbox Series X|S.

The only resolution found on PS5 was 1920x1080.

The only resolution found on Xbox Series S was 1600x900.

Xbox Series X uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest resolution found being approximately 2737x1540. Pixel counts at 2737x1540 seem to be rare on Xbox Series X. Xbox Series X has 4K HUD elements and the other two consoles do not.

PS5 and Xbox Series X have extra foliage in some scenes and a longer draw distance for some objects than Xbox Series S. Xbox Series X has a Depth of Field effect that doesn't appear to be present on the other consoles. PS5 seems to have SSAO enabled which doesn't appear to be enabled on the other consoles. Xbox Series S has lower quality shadows than the other consoles and Xbox Series X has higher quality shadows than PS5 https://bit.ly/3JaJbzx

A form of camera stuttering is seen on the Xbox consoles. This camera stuttering wasn't found on Xbox Series S when it reaches 60fps. This stuttering doesn't appear to be just caused by an uneven frame delivery.

the dynamic res seems to target 30fps.

due to a similar issue the FPS Boost mode of Titanfall 2 sets the game into base Xbox One graphics mode, because the dynamic resolution of Titanfall 2 in One X mode is programmed to just shoot up as high as possible (up to, and over 6K apparently according to Respawn's internal tests) until it is about to drop below 60fps.

so they had to use the Xbox One mode for the 120fps FPS Boost so that the resolution doesn't just go to 6K because the framerate is above 60fps at all times.

this made by Bloober Team btw. 🤣 can't wait to see what a shitshow Silent Hill 2 is gonna be

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
This is somehow designed to make all current gen consoles look bad.
Series X for shit performance/half the framerate of the rest, Series S for not even holding 60 at 900p and PS5 for only hitting 1080p.

It's not enhanced for the new consoles in any way, it's BC versions running in PS4 Pro and One X specs. (One S for Series S)

Looks like they unlocked the framerate though (maybe twiddled with some settings too)? Doesn't look like any of those would run well on last gen consoles unlocked.

It was the same last gen as well, unlocked frame rate and Xbox versions have stutters whenever the camera moves. Probably Bloober's worst game so far.

This game ran so poorly on Xbox One that I insta-deleted it. Didn't make it but 2 or 3 minutes. Shame too bc I like the movie and it seems like it could be a fun game :pie_confused:

Who in their right mind is interested in this comparison now? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

That's some weird DRS on the XSX there, but as has been mentioned, it seems to be geared towards maxing the resolution at 30fps vs. 60fps with the bursts beyond 30 only happening when both the resolution and the framerate can be supported. Clearly being capped at 1080p helps the stability on the PS5.

a cinematic 24fps with improper camera interpolation 🥲
Yeah i’m not so sure about Bloober

I'd clock this as a win for PS5. Rock solid 60fps.

The depth of field effect on Series X looks like glaucoma.

Awesome game and a horror gem. Bloober are masters at work so it's safe to say that Silent Hill 2 is in good hands. Can't wait.
