Fun fact: a lot of Japanese anime, movies, and video games feature ( men and women) with brightly colored hair and outlandish hairstyles because in real life Japanese people have black straight hair.

another fact: almost every video character from Japanese studios in 80s and 90s were Japanese and some had slight changes to eyes and names for western audiences when localized.

Cammy from Street Fighter
Sarah from Virtua Fighter
Nina from Tekken

As others have mentioned, if you’re looking for blond female protagonists (or just blond protagonists in general), then you’ll find plenty of them in Japanese games (as well as Manga and Anime). It’s probably because blond hair (as well as blue/grey/green eyes) are fairly exotic to the average Japanese.

But there is definitely a relative lack of blond protagonists in western games (and media in general). Remember that meme from the PS360 era, about how the typical AAA protagonist was a dark-haired white(ish) dude? Nathan Drake, Max Payne, that dude from Gears of War, Commander Shepard, Booker from Bioshock Infinite, etc.? I think the main reason was that they probably wanted to have characters that could pass as white, but also pass as hispanic or slightly mixed race (basically castizo), in the hope that this would appeal larger audiences. So they couldn’t be too white, which means blondes are out. Nowadays there’s more diversity, but only in one direction, which means blondes still get the shaft.

But I think another aspect is that blondes in media have negative stereotypes attached to them: there is the ‘dumb blonde’ trope for females, and the ‘handsome but evil villain’ trope for blond men (the latter probably goes back to World War 2). In movies blond men have been cast as villains for a long time (just imagine the typical high school bully from an 80s movie), so it makes sense that there wouldn’t be many blond protagonists in western games either.

Can some american dude explain to me why this chick is so famous?! What does that phrase even mean? Is she flirting? Making a threat?
I couldn’t tell you why she became famous briefly, perhaps for her bold attitude on a public TV show. I think she also makes rap songs.

She’s making a threat to whoever she’s speaking to. She’s basically saying she’s ready to fight that person once they step outside of the building.

On topic, I haven’t seen Crypt of the Necrodancer mentioned yet.

Interesting!
It always amuse me that swedish characters are often blonde in all media when I barely know any real blonde people at all. Lots of people here are born blonde though but turn brown haired as they get older.

Yep, Kassandra was way more feminine and thank God for that. I still played as her bro tho.
Alexios VA was like hearing a cheap porn actor from the 80s.

I only had him as an enemy and i was laughing my ass off everytime he was on screen.
