Ghostwire Tokyo. The media reviews are more or less fair on this one. A 7/10 game that has distinct strength and weakness.

Vv9PjcL.jpg

The bad:

  • The game falls short pretty hard on combat - very outdated, stale and repetitive. It is a real shame that they wasted such a good concepts. I was expecting dynamic combos from different elements and hand seals synergy but the game does not deliver at all. It is just a first person shooter reskin - three elements correspond to pistol, shotgun, and grenade lunch, the bow is probably a sniper and talisman are different nades. There is no synergy at all. Enemy types are limited also. The best strategy for combat is to stand there spamming block and charge your projectiles.
  • The open world activity design is questionable. Literally a by-the-book Ubisoft open world. Staffed at lot of collectibles in the not-so-large map, the icons remind me of the nightmare of AC Unity. They kind of force you to collect them as each collectible type gives you tangible benefits for character growth. You can't completely ignore them, without the upgrades from collectibles, the game feels hard on normal difficulty. So you will be constantly interfered by all those side activities during main mission. The problem is, the side contents aren't fun at all (except side missions, which imo are the redeeming parts of the game).
  • The story just feel rushed and clueless.
The motivation of the antagonist is so laughable compared to the consequence of his deeds. There should have been a much deeper dive into the former group of KK and Hannya
. They released a prelude visual novel which I didn't play, I guess the developer feels the same way for the story in the main game such that they have to add extra story in a standalone prelude game.
That being said, I platinum'ed the game in 35 hours. I'd say I enjoyed the first 25 hours for completing the main story.

The good:
  • The art in the game is superb. From the beautifully re-imagined Shibuya to the fancy stylish animations of hand seal combat to the designs of all yokais. It was a treat. I've always been a fan of Japanese cultures, ancient and modern, and this games really scratched my itches for it. Higher frame quality mode with V-sync is the good way to go for graphic mode for 60 Hz TV, you have ray tracing, 60 fps and not losing much resolutions.
  • Out of tons of uncreative side contents, the side missions in this game are really the shinning gold. All of them are based on Japanese myths and folklores. You'll solve some mysterious scenes, chase yokais, put rampant dragon into lull, and so on. They are short, fun to play, and the tone is lightening, truly fresh air from the main story.
  • The traverse abilities are really fun to play via you navigating Shibuya. The tengu grapple lets you instantly teleport to rooftops of skyscrapers, and then you can glide down slowly while enjoying the sightseeing of modern Tokyo. Open world games aren't very often just based on metropolis, when they do, most are western cities. So when you have a game that is based on modern Tokyo, it gets even more captivating.
I got the game $39.99 the other day and I think it was the right price for what if offered, but can't help but think about what the game could have been if it had not experienced those development hiccups. Still hope it would sell good enough for a sequel to overcome the cons I mentioned. Although I just realized the sequel would probably be Xbox exclusive.

PS: The real reason for me to buy this game is that Best Buy offered free steelbook case during the sale. It looks dope.

nothing. gave up on Shin Megami Tensei V. got it at launch but went long spells without playing it. i'm too slow at playing games and i was getting frustrated. got into a new area of the game (Taito) and there is a huge difficulty spike and i'm already on casual difficulty :messenger_grinning_sweat: i'm constantly dying and it's pissing me off.

after Elden Ring + SMTV i really need a simple, short, and easy game to play. i still have to play Pokemon Snap and Mario 3D World so I'll probably go for one of them next.

about to finish re4 and man it is WAY longer than i thought it owuld be. kind of feels like its over staying its welcome tbh :messenger_confused:

saw dead rising 2 remaster on sale and scooped it up. been really wanting to play again after i went through dead rising remaster and loved it all over again. cant wait to lead actual competent survivors, which is by far the biggest downfall of dead rising 1 (seriously survivors in DR1 are potato brain dumb, its awful).

I've been making my way through Nights of Azure on PS5. Enjoying it so far, I've played it before as I bought it at launch but played much more online with friends back then. I plan on either hopping to NoA2 afterwards or another Atelier title, then perhaps starting a trek through Xenoblade Chronicles DE. On the side still chipping away at Kirby and going old school beat 'em up and shoot 'em up happy with my girl in a bunch of different games, namely Sega stuff(SoR, Golden Axe). Really loving the spritework and animation in the Pocky and Rocky game that recently released on Switch, but one thing I've noticed lately, man I suck at games now. I was never that good at shooters, generally suck. But damn if my reflexes aren't what they used to be. Also just used to current gen game design so I've gotten soft.

I've been setting up different systems around the house on other TV's to mess around in when either of us get the hankering. I've been on an oldschool kick, been dying to try Golden Axe on the SMS but don't want to shell out 400 dollery-doos. So I bought the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection for my PS3. I've tried in using Emulation and liked it, but I wanted an easy to plug and play official copy.
I played some Nights of Azure 1 & 2. Decent little games from Gust.

SMS as in Sega Master System? It's $400? I have a hankering for some old school games too. I just started Secret of Mana. Do you have a Genesis Mini? You can hack it and put like 2000 games on it with an mini usb

ok finally finished re4.

clocked in at about 20 hours and it was really good. solid game. ive played and beat it before and my experience was about the same, which is to say im very happy with the experience, but i dont exactly think its god's gift to video games, as some claim.

tbh... man im glad that is over, lol! the game just went on too long and there isnt enough variety in the gameplay to warrant a 20 hour game, imo. i think it should have cut about 10 hours and focused more on making replays more fun. i noticed there is no grade you get at the end which was a huge bummer as i love working on speeding up runs and whatnot (RE2 and 3 remake were amazing in that regard).

and like i said before, some of the archaic mechanics havent aged well imo. the aiming is frustrating, the movement is clunky, the camera is equally as clunky, looking down with the knife was slow and a real drag since the knife is so useful, and a lot of other small gripes. i think its just an old game with some archaic design that still works, but many better mechanics have come along since then (see re2 and 3 remake). but its great for what it is and i appreciate a retro feel like that, once in a while.

gonna defnitely put this game away for a while. i dont want to see another QTE or action sequence in my life lol. but i will certainly be picking it back up to do extra play throughs, pro mode and the side mission stuff. fun game, really enjoyed it! i dont think its as good as a lot of other people seem to think, in fact its pretty low on my list of favorite RE game. but really well made and i can understand the hype behind it.

on to dead rising 2!!!

Beat Resident Evil 7. Can't really remember how many times I've beaten this game. I know I've played it for around 70 hours if Steam and the PS5 are to be believed. Still one of my favourite entries in the RE series despite the departure to first person.

I'm not sure what I'll move onto next. Looking at my Steam backlog I have a few things I could go for. I bought and never played: Just Cause 3, Dead Rising 3, Total War: Three Kingdoms, Enslaved, L.A Noire, Little Nightmares, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Phasmaphobia. Dead Rising 3 is the only game in that series that I am yet to play so I might install that and see what it's like!

DR3 is a bit of a deparure from the DR1 and 2 formula, but i still really enjoyed it. there is less limitations with the timer, more emphasis on combo weapon, and vehicle gameplay is actually quite important (and fun). there are still survivors and psychos and extra challenges to do. i do remember the stores and places to explore was a bit lacking compared to DR1 and 2 though.

overall i actually was pleasantly surprised. i expected to hate it, being a big fan of the DR1 and 2 formula, but they did a pretty good job. ive actually been craving playing it lately, and i think its on sale on xbox atm.

I'm downloading it right now. I can't really remember that much about the first two games. The most recent Dead Rising I played was number four and I enjoyed that. Hopefully number three will be just as good, if not better.

Of my current games I'm playing, RE0 remaster stuck with me the most. It is pure survival horror, on a normal playthrough you simply cannot play it like an action game and slaughter everything in sight. I had a decent loadout as Rebecca, and there were 3 zombies surrounding me. I missed my headshots with the shotgun and got rapidly bitten up by the surrounding zombies...didn't take long for the You Died screen to appear

Bloodborne rip off. Felt kinda janky and rough but combat was pretty slick, sort of DmC style fast paced hack n slash with Bloodborne aesthetic pasted on top of it. Hopefully developers will polish the game up a notch before release.

I haven't paid attention or cared for baseball the last 20 years yet I purchased MLB The Show 22 for my PS5.

I don't care for the Online card crap but enjoying the Road to the Show.

It's fun and strangely addicting.
I created a fat left fielder power hitter from Texas called Butch Walker & an old Irish pitcher with bags under his eyes called Frankie Finnigan who only throws fastballs.
Yes I like to roleplay my sports games.

On Switch I'm also continuing my love affair with Octopath Traveler.

Doing Fate of Atlantis in AC Odyssey. Of course Ubi saved the best for DLC. Elysium is so beautiful I often have to stop and take in the views. New gear and bosses, with a more deep dive into Greek mythology in its story. Three episodes. After that I'm almost done with Odyssey. Only a few chapters left. 120 hours. I've played on and off now for almost a year. Will probably do Valhalla next. It looks way better with a more interesting setting. Not particularly excited about the bloat though.

Finished Far Cry 4 yesterday. It was dumb, it was repetitive and I enjoyed every minutes of it.
What can I say, I love my Far Cry games.

Today, I started Death Stranding for the first time.
I'm slightly overwhelmed with the UI but everything else is great. Game looks gorgeous, I don't mind the slower pace/walking part at all and the music is beautiful.
Can't wait to continue this week-end.

Honestly Far Cry 4 was one of the more depressing entries to the series. Your choices are essentially the Taliban, Mexican drug cartels, or a crazy dictator with a slightly more stable society.

Leave the 'Everyone is evil' grim-dark to 40k.

Nothing mostly. Still kinda feel burnt out on games thanks to Horizon 2.

When I do play though to kill some time it‘s mostly just the Sierra classic Emperor on PC. A couple of levels in I really dig the changes they made compared to Pharao - biggest one that no production site need real access to the housing. Always felt bad for this on house I had to place amid the dirty production area. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Yep, I just bought DR3 for like $8 a few days ago. Looking forward to trying it.

Somewhere in the middle of the game. I feel disappointed. The worst are fps drops during fights. XBO version.

Currently also playing GTA: Chinatown Wars. I love the game so much.
Oh my how much i would love to play a successor on a Nintendo Console.
Got the DS version on release, and it was an absolute blast. Still my favorite GTA game to date, and definitely one of the best DS games, which is saying a lot. I guess just the mixture of tinkering between using the stylus to hotwire cars and such, along with the tiny handheld ability to inhabit the GTA world in the absolute best visual perspective you can play GTA. A masterpiece for sure.

started pokemon snap on switch. brings back so many memories but i'm finding it awkward. i wish the cart would go a little slower and some pokemon are really tricky to get good photos of. i need a simple short game so that's why i'm playing this. need a break after Elden Ring + SMTV :messenger_sad_relieved:

i really want to play Final Fantasy VII remake but i'll wait until it's on sale. i'm not paying £60-70 for it :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Dark Eden finished and four pillars restored to its former glory in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. I believe I´m about half way through, can´t exactly remember since the latter half of the game is pretty vague in memory. I´m going to Avernus Cathedral and there I think I will travel in time. And then it´s the Doll Maker and the plot basically goes off the deep end. Anyway, the game holds up incredibly well. The only thing that is tiresome is the constant switching of gear and weapons. It´s absurd sometimes, flickering through menus picking spells and items for the right occasion. The soundtrack is also magnificient. I´ve forgot how good the music is in this game.

Finished Forbidden West's main quest, now going for the trophies.

Thoughts on the story:

This really didn't do anything for me. It had its moments, such as Beta turned up. That was completely unexpected and very cool. The Zeniths made me roll my eyes, as I just felt that they had gone down the "aliens" route.

It would've been more interesting to have an Aloy clone as a big bad, alongside Beta.

Having said that, the game is great fun and I can't actually stop playing it..! So, yeah, bad story, but great fun as a game. I'm going to do all the side quests, errands, relic hunts, etc.

I need to figure out what exactly I'm going to be playing as the warm months begin to settle in.

I'm about 60-70 hours into Elden Ring and definitely need to finish, but I think I will slowly play over the course of the year, as I really don't want to be "done" with the game.
I started Toem, and will keep that in my back pocket as my go-to chill game on the couch. Same for the newish content in Session.
I still need to get the last 3 endings in Chrono Trigger, but that should be doable over 1-2 gameplay sessions. If time allows I will wrap this one up today / next weekend.

After that I am thinking of firing up RetroArch on my Steam Deck and playing through FF1, with he goal of getting 100% achievements via RetroAchievements. A buddy recommended Golden Triangle from the NES so I will also check that one out.

Too many options, honestly. I am really feeling a retro vibe coming on though so more NES is probably in my near future.

I find it doesn't overstay its welcome on Wii where the control is so much better. It's like the hardware was made just for this 1 game.

dead rising 2 is so much fun.

the survivors being actually competent is such a big plus. theres a book you can find in the bingo place off the silver strip that makes them even more competent. its to the point now where as long as i dont get grabbed by a zombie, they will stay right behind and weave in and out of the zombies right along with me. sooooo much better than the survivors in DR1

i was playing this morning and gathered 7 survivors, went to the weapon shop and gave them all shotguns, and just mowed through crowds of zombies on the way back to the safe house. at one point we walked into a casino and there was a large crowd directly in front of house, and my survivors just stood in a line and disintegrated 50 or so zombies with shotgun blasts. i just walked off to the side and stood there watching them, it was so fucking cool!

one of the worst things though is the psychos. god damnit what is it with capcom and boss fights, they are sooooo bad sometimes. with the psychos in DR2, you have to figure out how to cheese the fight and win it that way. theres no strategy or amount of preparation you can do, no trick to killing each. and even if there is some "proper" way to beat each psycho, its honestly easier to grab a sniper, find a wall/corner they cant hit from, and just blast them away until they are dead. but it wasnt much different in DR1 tbh so...

anyway, still loving it! went ahead and bought DR3 apocalypse edition while its still on sale for $8.99 on xbox. gonna go straight from 2 to 3 after this. cant wait! 3 is surprisingly good, although different than 1 and 2

Bought Assassin's Creed Valhalla on a flash sale on PSN. It was marked down 60%. It feels instantly better than Odyssey. More interesting setting and lore, a more compelling story and likeable characters and the combat feels more grounded and has weight to it. I've just arrived in England and acquired Ravensthorpe so not sure how repetitive it's going to be but so far it doesn't feel as copy pasted as Odyssey. I also like the color code on the map, indicating Treasures and events, instead of a million question marks. That shit was so annoying. It's nice that Ubi also skipped the loot system from Odyssey which was absolute garbage, and made the loot here more unique, although it comes fewer numbers. It makes finding a weapon or armor more special. Valhalla is also very beautiful and has a good soundtrack so far. PS5 makes for a smoother experience with shorter load times and Dualsense integration than Odyssey. So far so good.

We'll see how the game is after 30 hours. I thought Odyssey was great at first but then the cracks started to show and it became clear how the game was designed. I hope this isn't the case with Valhalla but it's Ubi so it's most likely gonna be bloated. But if the game is overall fun and the combat doesn't get boring, I can put up with much. I put 120 hours into Odyssey before I gave up so hopefully Valhalla is the one I truly finish. The DLC expansions look more interesting too than Odyssey but let's go with the base game first.

The game is even more bloated than Odyseey. Don‘t let the great start fool you. Oh, and stay away from the stone stacking stuff. It will drive you mad.

Halo Infinite, I am enjoying season 2, even if I'd like more content :)

Eiyuden Chronicles (I've literally just finished this game, it was pretty fun, a little tedious at times) :)

AC Valhalla is very good so far. I like the idea of building your own settlement. It gives a personal feeling to the game. Your very own home. Valhalla seems to have more optional side stuff than Odyssey. Settlement, river raids, getting drunk, dice games. I like that. Odyssey was so shallow and empty, but here the world seems more lived in, more real and grounded. Lots of customization too, which I love. And the graphics are amazing. Very beautiful game. Say what you will about Ubi and their formula, but AC is high production value. I've collected lots of free stuff too, different armor sets, opals and resources that Ubi gave away from some festival I missed. Unfortunately, there is a lot of microtransaction in the game, which of course sucks balls. But that's the world we live in these days.

im one of them gaas-holes...so im playing Apex/Destiny/Avengers/Fortnite. One thing bout me, if i buy a battlepass, u bet ur ass im gonna get my moneys worth

i've tried a lot of random games otherwise. Deep Rock Galactic, Tribes of Midgard, Jurassic Park Evolution

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, cool story, music and gameplay with lots of quirks and mechanics. Also amazing art, one of the prettiest games I've played for sure.

Also playing Metal Slug. Already able to get to the last stage without continues, on Level 4. Hope to be able to beat it with 1 credit, haven't done so in like 15 years.
